Farcical comment although the rest of what he said is spot on. He said it about Shola as an after-thought, and said 'to be fair' and said he was coming back from injury. He knows he was shite. Why does every manager play Ameobi when he is "coming back from injury"? Ameobi is always injured (another reason why I couldn't believe NUFC gave him a new contract). Surely a fit Carroll or Ranger is a better bet than an unfit Ameobi? It's not as if Ameobi has a history of scoring important goals to justify his inclusion in the starting 11 over any other striker. How shit must Shearer (correctly) think Smith is to start an unfit Ameobi over him?
-
Give Keegan his dues. He did try to get rid of Ameobi. The deal fell through.

Check the fixtures, just because Sunderland have their easier games at a different time to us doesn't mean that their harder games have any less significance. Im sticking with my 'if we win our home games, we'll stay up' prediction. I hope you're correct. The trouble is, a few demoralising defeats by Tottenham and Liverpool could kill any embers of hope in our team or fans E.g. 6 points from safety with a few 3 'winable' games? Could the team and fans take the pressure? A bunch of arseholes Stoke's fans may be (every single touch an opposition player has is booed, every decision against them is complained about and anything in the penalty area is a hand ball) but I wish our fans were like that.
-
I've moved from an 8 to a 9. We needed to win today. We are 2 points and goal difference off 17th and 4 points off 16th. Sunderland's next two games they could realistically win (or draw even) and widen the gap to safety from us. Our fate is no longer in our hands. We need other teams to drop points. We were crap today until Carroll came on and then all of a sudden the team woke up. We are going to need some unexpected results from us and teams around us to save us.
-
Andy Carroll was my man of the match and he only played for 20 minutes. He showed in that short time everything Shola Ameobi can't or rarely does: - Win headers, score with a header, hold the ball up, stay onside, don't foul the opposition players all the time, control the ball, etc. I don't understand why it took Shearer so long to take Ameobi off but I doubt he'll have him in the starting 11 again.

Worryingly we don't seem to do well when on TV.
-
One of the reasons we're in the shit now. We haven't had anyone who can take a decent free kick for ages. Robert/Solano/Shearer was probably the last time we had any choice as said above. All our set pieces (corners, free kicks and throw ins) are shite and have been for a good few seasons. Lack of creativity in the midfielder is another long standing issue. We've all seen these obvious problem areas for years and what has been done to rectify them? Nothing, hence we're in a relegation fight.

Drop him from the team. -
That wouldn't make sense because he says Duff and Steven Taylor who would have been too young in those days. Just goes to show everything Bobby says isn't correct. Taylor better than Bassong?
-
Didn't Bobby give Ameobi a new contract? Harper was also in Bobby's squad. Solano and Robert piss all over Duff and Jonas. Bit of a harsh comment about Keegan from Bobby.

We are really running out of teams to catch. 6 points behind Stoke, 5 points behind Hull and Blackburn, 4 points behind Portsmouth (and they have a game in hand). Think it'll be a fight between the north-east clubs. Boro, us & Sunderland, 2 of these will go down. I agree but we 'only' have to catch one team. Most of the teams down the bottom have to play each other. We must beat them when we play them. If we don't there's no point complaining. In a way, the team's destiny is still in it's own hands with games against Stoke, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth. Hopefully when we play the mid table teams they won't have much to play for.
-
Still on an 8. West Brom are pretty much doomed as are probably Middlesbrough. 3rd bottom will be between Newcastle, Stoke, Portsmouth, Sunderland and Hull. We must beat Stoke!
-
If the Shearer appointment goes well and we don't get relegated there is no way Kinnear will be back to manage. Kinnear's contract ends in the Summer anyway (unless he signed that new one the idiots in charge supposedly offered him). Stay up and the jobs Shearer's if he wants it. Kinnear will be paid off if it's required. The "only in charge for 8 games" line is because that is all that matters until we are safe from relegation.
-
We still don't know if S.Taylor or Bassong will be fit for this. What does Shearer really think of Ameobi? Will he even be on the bench? Will Shearer go for experience over youth e.g. Will he pick Butt over Guthrie?
-
What I got out of that is the very real message of "All that matters is the next 8 games and making sure Newcastle United stay in the Premiership". Why talk about the future when we don't know what league we'll be in or if Shearer's done a good job or not?
-
I'd say something sensible (which wouldn't get broadcast). What does happen is Sky comes up to you and says "Can you sing 'Shearer! We're going to win the league!' and then we'll put you on the telly".
-
Reading that Sunderland forum made my skin crawl. One of them demands that Shearer's MOTD contract be terminated immediately. They are so sad it is unbelievable.
-
Changed from a 9 to an 8. No hope has changed to some hope. Reasons: - He can't do any worse than the current lot can he? We may get the new manager bounce. The fans will get behind him.
-
Not literally he doesn't. I think I'd notice a helicopter landing at the training ground as I live near it. I'm sure I read he owns a home near Bolam lake and his kids go to school locally.
