  1. You don't care about the title, you like Sunderland to be in the same league as Newcastle and you'd keep Mitro. Crazy talk.
  2. now 22 coming to 23, assuming we improve the overall squad around him i've seen nothing to suggest mitro can't become a better player whereas murphy will certainly not cut it at PL level you've said yourself we're not signing 2 top quality strikers so why not keep the youngster and aim for one very good player alongside him and gayle? we'll never agree, that's apparent I don't think Murphy is a great option for the Premiership but neither is Mitro. I hope we get a better striker than Gayle for first choice. That would make Gayle second choice. I'd hope third choice wasn't needed very often. I don't want another season of hoping Mitro can score goals regularly. If we can't sell him then loan him out somewhere else to learn on the job. I can't see him being happy being our third choice striker anyway. We'll see what Rafa really thinks of him over the Summer.
  3. Ideal scenario is Brighton draw or lose both their last games and NUFC beat Barnsley. Hughton was a great servant to NUFC but I'd rather we won the title.
  4. 3rd or 4th choice hopefully not needing to come on. Mitro in the Premiership is also a piss poor option. You guys must love to see him waste chance after chance. He shouldn't have been put in the position as first choice striker but his misses are one of the reasons we got relegated in the first place.
  5. so you presumably want to keep murphy then and have him as 3rd choice behind gayle + a new, better striker all after one spot? Murphy has 1 year to go on his contract. I doubt he's on wages anywhere near what Mitro gets. Murphy could be our 3rd or 4th choice, in case of emergency throw the big guy on option. He has a better goals to minutes ratio than Mitro. He's also coming to the end of his career. Mitro isn't going to improve on our bench. If we can sell Murphy and replace him with better then do so. To Mole_Toonfan, loads of people defend him. "he just needs a goal then he'll go on a run", "Mitro to get the next goal", "his hold up play is amazing", "He's great in the air", etc. Just look back through this thread. I'm all for supporting our players and we all hope they turn out to be successes but some people have infinite patience. madness to keep murphy over mitro imo, he's scored a few in the champo but he'll not get a sniff in the PL imo I'd keep neither but realistically we won't get 2 new strikers in. Mitro is young so he won't want to waste his career on our bench. Murphy would be more likely to accept being 3rd or 4th choice. Madness to have Mitro in the Premiership when he struggled last time and has just failed in the Championship.
  6. Armstrong isn't good enough yet for the Premiership. He needs to go out on loan again. He's been mediocre in the Championship.

  8. I'm in the "he's shit" camp because he's a striker who doesn't score goals. I think his supporters are haunted by the memory of Jon Dahl Tomasson and think Mitro will turn out to have a similar career. I don't get the "he just needs a goal for his confidence" theory as even when he has scored he has still missed sitters galore. I was at the cup game against Preston when he scored 2. He should have scored at least 2 more in that game. He may come good one day but as Rafa plays one striker I want that to be a goal scorer. I don't get the praise he gets for knock downs to others. His job is goal scoring not trying to feed midfielders. If NUFC can't get a good fee for him I'd loan him out to a poor league where he can hopefully score a few goals.
  9. It's not like next season will be easy. Goal scoring chances aren't likely to be as frequent. We need people who can take chances. If we need a goal I can't see how Mitro would be seen as a likely source given his record.
  10. I'm amazed he has so many supporters always ready to make excuses for him. Why anyone would want a non-goal scoring striker in the squad I'll never know.
  11. Well I didn't say that so you're the idiot. Centre backs have more goal scoring instinct. You said you were "glad he did a good pass" and then followed it up moaning that his first instinct was to pass, despite it being absolutely the right option. Thankfully it was his first instinct too rather than dawdling on the ball deciding what to do with it and seeing the chance go to waste. I was glad he passed as he usually misses his shots. Mitro in a one vs one against the keeper, my money is on the keeper. Unfortunately he keeps proving me right. He has no striker instincts. Strikers think about shooting first. Mitro thinks about passing to a team mate. He probably knows himself that he'd miss if he took a chance himself. I like my strikers to score goals.
  12. Well I didn't say that so you're the idiot. Centre backs have more goal scoring instinct. If the roles had been reversed I doubt Mitro would have converted the chance Atsu did.
  13. This guy must really hate scoring goals. There was an article a day or so ago on the Chronicle website where Rafa said Mitro does extra training to work on his finishing. Glad he did a good pass to Atsu but his first instinct always seems to pass to someone else anyway. He has no striker instincts.
  14. The lack of killer instinct annoys me. A lot of other teams would have filled their boots. We pass it around rather than go for more goals.
  15. He's 31 but has been playing since he was 17. Ask Man U fans how they rate him now. If Swansea get relegated I'd rather NUFC went for Sigurdsson over Rooney.
  16. He's currently on something like £250k a week. He'd have to take a massive pay cut to appear on NUFC's list. He has been playing at the top since he was 17. His career is coming to an end 'early' just like it did for another early starter Michael Owen. I'd rather NUFC spend the money on improving the squad with cheaper, good professionals rather than blowing the budget on a player whose best days are over.

  18. Link up play has been a part of a center forwards job forever. I mean if you think Mitrovic's contribution last night didn't have a massive impact on us playing well you're crazy. He certainly doesn't have the goal scoring ability necessary to be our main striker. But he can offer something very significant to the team. Yes, I know hold up play is part of a strikers role. Someone needs to tell Mitro and his fans that the main role of a striker is scoring goals. Our team only really has Gayle and Richie who regularly score goals. We can't afford to have strikers who don't score goals. Chesting passes to our other shot shy players doesn't get many goals.
  19. 20 corners and it was the player who crossed the balls fault Mitro got nowhere near them?
  20. Since when has a strikers role been to chest down balls to midfielders to score goals? I agree yesterday was one of Mitro's best performances but he barely troubled the goalkeeper. Don't forget we had 20 corners. A striker would expect to get on the end of quite a few of them, especially one who is supposedly good in the air and good at headers (according to his fan club).
  21. Why people predict we'll score 3 goals I don't know. Even when we play well we tend to only score 1 or 2.
