They sold too many of their good players and sacked their coach far too early. (think it was about 8 games into the season, so he could have turned it around). After losing players like Pantelic, Voronin, Fiedler, Simunic and Babic it was quite clear they wouldn't be as good as they were last season.

Don't think he was that shocking last season compared to our other players imo. That's because you couldn't see him due to him playing hide and seek when on the pitch. Even if so I still think there were many players (Butt, Coloccini of last season, Owen from January on, Ryan Taylor, Duff and also Geremi who had a few games that time still iirc) who were worse.

Maybe they will do the same like Adidas have done with the new Germany shirt: They have put 2 shirts to choose for the players - one of them skin tight, the other usual sized. Good idea but I doubt Puma will do the same.

It only seemed a friendly because we won but it was our season opener against Bolton - it was as a sub for the last 10 minutes or so. It was mint seeing "HARPER 12" on an outfield kit. He came on for Butt against Celtic with 10 minutes to go in a pre season game at St James' Park which we won 4-1. He played the full 90 in goal against Bolton. Of course, 10 mins vs. Celtic as striker (because Butt became injured and no one else than Harper and Krul were left on the bench) and 90 mins vs Bolton and the first 5 or so games of the season in goal.

I also think that one very big plus is that Harper - if taken to the World Cup - could play as a striker as well. He played for us in a friendley as a centre forward under Allardyce.

Think we should just use what we've got at the moment. We've got Barton as a proven Premier League midfield player who can create something, the same goes for Nolan imo. And than we could just use Guthrie as well in his right position and I think he would just grow into a good creative midfielder.

Still miles better than Mr. Joe Kinnear last January. Named pretty much every player we were (according to him at least) interessted in. In the end we got Nolan totaly out of the blue. Shows how much he had to say in terms of transfers imo. Wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens this window.
