if we were beating teams in the bottom half of the table we'd be higher up the league than we are right now i'd imagine!! but i agree, there ain't much to look forward to in the near future.... tell you what i'm gonna hate myself for saying this but look at spurs: arguably a squad of similar depth/ability to us although they haven't had the injuries we've had and maybe they're more balanced....anyway they were struggling earlier in the season and how did their manager respond? by changing his intention to play attacking football and tring to nick results here and there? did he f&ck....he stuck to what he believed and look at the football they are playing now, they're great to watch and if they're going down then they're going down with style and a fight we've forgotten what either of those two things even are any more

who are you talking about there? the manager or the fans? (made myself laugh there)
-
do we get a trophy like? we'd only drop it anyways, or give it back to the person handing it out by mistake
-
We have an average squad and an average manager. We played against a decent side who have a manager astute enough to exploit our obvious weaknesses as team (any coincidence both goals came from their right hand side where we consistently play inexperienced out of position bairns?). We've been appalling all season and picked up results when our "best" (ahem) players were injured and the kids were forced into the fray. Said kids have been subsequently binned for their efforts. We all know our manager will pick certain players regardless of form and he paid a heavy price for that last night, or rather the club and its fans paid a heavy price for that last night. We all know we've got it all to look forward to again next season as Glenn continues to "steady the ship" after Souness (I fear we might be hearing that in a decade still) and continues to "just miss out" on players in the transfer market that we desperately need. The outpouring of anger and vitriol is understandable but I'm a little surprised anyone thought we might actually win the UEFA cup to be honest....I'd love it much as the next person but if ever our trademark self-destruct was on the cards then it was this season as we've already seen vs Brum etc... Get set for the broken down rollercoaster ride again next season kiddies 'cause "Safety First" Glenn is here to stay in the near future - all the dreaming and pontificating about new managers will only heighten your disappointment in the months to come.

Was never, ever, ever, going to happen. Ever. unlikely, agreed, but that wasn't really my point - anyhow a 20m bid is a 20m bid, is it not? rooney himself said he turned us down so there was something there but once a professionally run club like man u came along obviously not I never bought the bid thing. It stank, for me. it did to me too 'til i read an interview with rooney admitting he would have gone to SJP if ferguson hadn't come in....the bid was on the table and he wanted out of everton so would have come, therefore must have existed?
-
17 goals in 26 league matches. Compared to Rooney's 10 in 29. Still want to bet it's not great? And remember, Ronaldinho is supposedly having a dire season . To put it bluntly, if Ronaldinho is the Premiership, Rooney is league 2. As a forward, Rooney will never be fit to clean Shearer's boots. rooney is suppsoed to be having a dire season unless you hadn't noticed... surprised ronaldinho has got so many as it happens no-one mentioned shearer and i didn't talk about rooney purely as a striker, i think that's where you're missing the point big time

aye you're right, he's getting injured more and more as the weeks go by...snap him up, 10m? His price is not 10m Chelsea probably will sell him for 5-6m and for this kind of money its the better option then Baines imo And he is miles better that what we have at the moment at LB ANYONE, as stated, is better than what we have at the moment. we dont need anyone we need class there Yes we do, IDEALLY. At the moment, we have NOTHING there. So anyone would be better than that. i just don't accept that it's as hard as the club are making it....there's a big wide world out there and EVERYONE has known babayaro is a disgrace to the shirt for more than a year how can we not have dug up a player from france, belgium, brazil, argentina, holland, mexico, germany, scandinavia....anywhere for christs sake? it seems to be the nature of the clubs transfer policy these days: "get cast offs from the big clubs" forget wayne bridge...get our chief scout (or someone who can spot a player) a sh!tload of plane tickets and tell him not to come back without a new LB, RB, CM and maybe a striker all for less than 10m i swear to god give me those plane tickets and i'd get us the lot and still have change to buy a pint....
-
dyer has the attributes to play in ALL of the above listed positions, however he lacks the crucial element he needs: a brain, as evidenced by...oh say every single waking moment since he came to the club?
-
maybe we could sell bramble, dyer, carr, babayaro and luque TO ADRIANO so he'll have someone to go on the p!ss with? ten bob ought to do it...
-
by all accounts he's just another kluivert.... primadonna, lazy in training, living off a forged reputation...we're just the club to turn that around eh? as magpie says once he hit the quayside we'd be packing him off on the same bus as luque....only he'd need 2 seats to himself

an outright fucken lunatic...howling at the moon and chasing passing cars type nutjob

jesus christ this is nonsense - anyone with eyes and who knows the game of football cannot for one second start taking rooney apart, just watch him and it should tell you all you need to know the boy is a genius - why not sit and list ronaldinho's goal scoring ratio - i'll bet it's not great....that's what samuel eto'o is for....players like this come along once in a generation and it's such a fucken typical english thing to do to start ripping the boy up 'cause he's not winning games single handed week in week out it makes me sad to say this but im almost glad rooney didn't come to SJP at times 'cause this lad has the potential to be the greatest english player there has ever been and we would have simply ruined him before he was 24.... martins is a good striker, i actually believe he'll become a glorious one, but to consider in fantasy land that you'd keep him over rooney can only mean you're either blind or have a single figure IQ
-
as much as i like the derbies it would be very, very funny to see them get stitched in the playoffs after recovering from such a bad start and then having all this optimism....it would simply be beautiful to watch (assuming you weren't looking at them obviously)
-
you sure about that? they tend to say "shootiiiiiiiiiiing" with the emphasis on the 2nd part of the word....or "headiiiiiing" with the same intonation....funny man, listening to loads of korean babble then they throw that in, cracks me up every time

That dipshit John Helm on Five keeps referring to him as a player that we still 'haven't taken to'. I'm not sure the kid could have done any more this season, realistically. Some people want their f****** heads knocking together. My mate, the Boro fan who sees plenty of us, says he'd be embarrassed if Boro fans were going on like that over a top class player. a mate of mine just wouldn't have anything to do with him at first, wouldn't accept that his continuing good performances were in fact good and his goals ratio was pretty good for a first season - he openly admitted it was simply that he cost 10m, he said if he'd cost 3m he'd be in love with the lad there's perhaps an element of this in martins and some people not being convinced; the size of his fee commanding comparisons to luque and other expensive let downs, the feeling that if he's successful he'll either want to leave or will be simply taken from us.... my mates rational was if he cost 10m then he SHOULD be banging in goals and it's nothing to go mental about, just 'cause other people we spent fortunes on don't!! fair point really...what does 10m buy you these days? have we bought someone who has doubled or trebled in value in the last 8 months or so? i'm not sure myself..... i can't get beyond the fact that if his name was darren bent and he'd done what he'd done this season for us in the team he's had to endure we'd all be getting tatoos of him on our legs...not suggesting that it's a racist thing, merely a foreign import thing by the way i love the lad, hope he stays forever and leaves a legend....
-
damien duff again - don't really need him but lets get him anyway 'cause he's available forget saviola and start scouring for full backs, that'd make more sense
-
explain - precedents please?

nothing has gone against keane as a manager yet he took over a club that were a laughing stock and had no expectations, was given money to spend (comparatively a lot by the standards of that division) and has taken them up the league.... if they go up, and it's STILL an if, then the time judge him will be when they have a bad run in the PL...he's notorious for his temper and the walking away from ireland incident suggests he might not react well to adversity also if they come close to going up and fail, then that'll be a good time to start judging him - how he would react to it....would he spit the dummy out and walk away or dig in? remains to be seen

"Premiership's top clubs set £100,000 limit on wages"
mrmojorisin75 replied to Lagerstedt's topic in Football
nobody else think it's a two way street? for every lampard with super agents there's a james milner who doesn't even use an agent but uses a PFA representative (love that lad for his attitude to everything by the way) it's double edged sword - wherever you work if someone could get you more money then who in their right minds would say no? let's face it most of the people running clubs would tear the eyes out of players and did so for many, many years (bobby moore earned truppence and a mandarin each week type cr@p).... now the tables have turned and either clubs cap their wages from within or they don't....i for one would hate, totally HATE to see shepherd taking someone like milner for a ride (which he would) but then on the other hand we have luque who is to all intents and purposes putting on a dildo and raping the club each week and waltzing off with a fortune comes down to clubs - apparently even chel$ki have baulked at terrys latest demands (wanted guaranteed to be the highest earner at the club as long as he was there) and remain in stalemate with lampard.... no easy answer to this one if you ask me, all you can ask is clubs work within their means... -
put an ad in the chronicle asking for donations to help pay his laughable wages....anyone who contributes gets the right to go onto the training pitch and "tackle" him regardless of his fitness the catch is you can wear ice skates, steel toe cap boots, have nails poking out your shoes whatever.... i'd sign up, now, ten grand

Having a s**** left back behind him doesn't excuse Duff from not doing his job properly. but having one certainly would ease his job considerably Not really. If Duff is incapable of taking the ball past his opponent, how is someone good behind him goign to help? I can see it would improve the service to him, but its not going to make him a good enough winger. football 101 mate - a player facing both a right sided defender and right sided midfielder of the opposing team will find it more difficult to take on his opponent (same goes for the opposite flank of course) than when he opposes one player a large responsibility of the modern full back is to make supportive runs overlapping the winger thus moving one of the opposing players that goes to track the run then the winger with the ball either has the option to pass to the overlapping run if it's a good one or attempt to take on his opponent with more of an advantage for a good example of this please refer to newcastle vs middlesbrough at SJP very recently and you'll see in great detail the problems this can cause - not to damien duff but to charles n'zogbia whilst on the other side james milner suffers few of the same problems in the same game as he was supported adequately by solano duff might well be sh!te, i'm not convinced yet, but ignoring the lack of a decent supporting LB is ridiculous

i like the bit in the article about not settling at newcastle - sure he'll be jumping at the chance to move to sunderland to experience the culture and sophistication of that particular little breeding ground of filth, he'll settle like a native no doubt

What would it take to get the spark back?

Where did it all go wrong? I guess that we'll never know. I do know that a journalist was going to do a book on the mismanagement of the club, somebody who worked for the Journal or Chronicle, I don't think he ever took it any further than thinking about it. i'm afraid i have to stand with NE5 a bit on this one - "where did it all go wrong?" that's a question forest and sheff wed fans should be asking themselves, not newcastle fans right now we're in a reasonable league postition, still have a (slim) possibility of qualifying for europe and can reach the last eight of the uefa cup and more this season....this is not what i consider things going wrong personally i also see signs from the people in charge at the club that they're learning from mistakes and roedebot is verifying this with his 'intended' transfer policy...if we ship out some of the crap from the club and bring in a few decent players, added to getting fit the ones we've been missing then we have the makings of a decent side who will be nowhere near relegation and relegation is the ONLY thing that will bring the financial meltdown certain people are implying will happen at the club....increased TV money, shirt sales, attendances etc... will continue to provide enough income for the club and we now have a money man joining the board who will no doubt have an impact, but none of it will happen overnight my original post on this topic was regarding the exctiement level and feelgood factor surrounding the club, which i do feel is on the slide somewhat....however a season or two of owen and martins belting in goals coupled with a few competent new signings would soon see to that (especially if we had the added bonus of seeing the back of certain negative feelgood factors like luque, babayaro, carr, moore, bramble....) obviously we have high debt levels and we'll either get out of them long term with the board we've got or short term with a takeover (which incidentally i still think will happen, there's too much money making opportunity for someone NOT to take over the club) but unless the board permit more reckless spending a la souness, or we do go down, then the status quo will continue and in the grand scheme of things it ain't all that bad
