if mclaren's overall plan is to protect aarons a little bit from injury/expectation while throwing obertan to the wolves then i'm all for it....we can't have aarons getting crippled like last year perez is more baffling, and i don't like what's going on there
-
We could be devastating on the break this season once McLaren loses patience with Obertan and gets Aarons and Mitrogol on. Wilnaldum, Aarons, Sissoko all running at pace with Mitro to play off. Should work well as long as we're lot three down from the defence being shite before they get chance to do anything.
-
He played one amazing cross, he was bang average at best for the rest of it.
-
as you're in the obertan thread how did you think obertan did defensively for lead up to the second and in the 10-15 minutes before it when he was watching their players run past him to double up on haidara? i'm not saying haidara wasn't at fault but obertan was nothing short of disgraceful during that period, should have been the first one off the pitch
-
Will you just fuck off man? I know he is, but would he have been worse than Tiote? I doubt it. I'm saying there were options to refresh the team and positively change the have in our favour, and he took the wrong ones, it's as simple as that.
-
he still had options on the bench to add something to the deteriorating situation it was going wrong before anita got injured but he could have done plenty of other things with his subs anita off wijnaldum deeper, perez on, obertan off, aarons on, cisse off mitro on there's plenty of other things he could have done tbh, if wijnaldum was in tatters then drop sissoko back with colback and shuffle the pack to get some pace, youth and technique in there de jong on was a horrible fucking substitution to make tbh
-
kudos to TCD for helping to settle this argument
-
helps to see this stuff with your eyes i suppose

You're looking at that too simply. The primary reason for Southampton gaining control of the game is that our central defenders ran out of gas and started defending extremely deeply. Add in a Tiote who hasn't played at all, was totally off the pace and is Tiote (positionally awful, chasing shadows) and an ineffective NDJ and the pressure is on. It's more to do with the others being bad/tiring than any good work Anita did. If Anita was always showing for the ball and Colback is always hiding - why do they always make a similar amount of total passes (given the time on the pitch)? I don't want to see either of them together. But it's because neither are that good and they have similar weaknesses to their game. And I struggle to see either of them alongside Wijnaldum managing to protect the back four well. Although the sooner we try the better. always, alway being contrary for the fucking sake of it you're literally the only person on this board who doesn't acknowledge that anita going off changed things negatively for us, the other stuff was contributory of course, it all was, but losing the one guy who was pivotal in the way we were moving the ball was a disaster for us
-
aye him slowing things down by taking a touch, looking around, then passing it and standing still is a big issue....vurn has his issues but he can cover the ground faster and his entire game seems to be about moving the ball quickly and creating space to get the return it's been said and will be said again but they just shouldn't both be in the team and anita has the better attributes for that specific role

he looks overweight to me, and i've heard he doesn't track back much at all

This is so depressingly predictable. Even some of the local reports have been saying how much better yesterday was compared to 'the rest of 2015'. Aye, what about all the times before that, you knobs? or they'll claim he's been "backed" in the market by ashley that's the major reason for the upturn in fortunes whereas super al was forced to fight the good fight for 4 years

He was at worst average today, and yet we are still gifted with continuous discussion of how poor a player he is. Different day, same story on this forum. They spend their time mocking him for his white skin (I am sure if his pigmentation was of a different ethnicity, they would say nowt about that) and his speech impediment, but they reserve their ire mostly for his biggest disability of all, his nationality. If his name was Jaques Le Col Baque, with Ugandan origin they would be far more tolerable. For evidence of this, see their rampant and sinister defence of Vernon Anita, by far one of the most pointless players the premier league has ever seen, but due to nefarious reasons outlined earlier, they will remorselessly defend him until the cows come home. This is weapons-grade retardation. I reckon if he was called Lin-Con Eemp you'd reckon he was a f***ing mint poster and not at all a complete knuckle dragging fuckwit. Once again, anti English xenephobia on display. I notice no one has had the grace or dignity to offer an opposition to my post, rather just decide they are offended for no justifiable reason whatsoever. Nobody takes you seriously enough to be offended by you churning out the same shit post after post.

same, he actually stopped extending his leading leg during the slide as he knew he wasn't getting there first, might even have pulled back a little but there was no way he was going in to hurt the lad like
-
maybe i've missed some of his stuff but this is the first time i've seen skin colour wheeled out, think he's running out of material tbh
-
Aye, it's like being praised for turning at work. and performing to the absolute bare minimum of your duties, footballers train 5 days a week, running around a lot should be a given...what supposed to set them apart from the rest of us is that they're supposed to be good with the football

Harsh, he was as good as Anita today, although I'd be looking at strengthening that position before a forward (that counts for Cloback, Anita, Tiote and Abeid) not really, we've realistically got one spot for either anita, colback or tiote to play the recycling possession / picking up from fullbacks and distributing game anita is the best we have at it, has been for ages, and it's slowly starting to dawn on some people that this is the truth tiote (when fit) offers much more presence, pace and physicality than colback in the defensive side of things arguably between tiote and colback to backup anita imo, when everyone is fit
-
De Jong looks completely out of place and out of sync with the rest of the team at the moment imo. Seems slow and ponderous when everyone else bar Colback has decent pace and can cover the ground. Mitrovic is also going to be fairly slow and ponderous, having two of them in the attacking spots is suicidal tbh. For me use that lineup from Ron but with Perez instead of De Jong and you're there. If the system develops as it should then integrate De Jong into it but for now he's only going up hold us back in developing a quick attacking game.
-
Shouldn't be starting games for us unless injuries absolutely dictate it
-
It's good the only problem is his central midfield partner then goes and hides behind the closest opposition player he can.
