so he's basically hired an agent in the last few months, bought a couple of suits from his payoff money and will tour the circuit until some fuckwits offer him a job he really did learn from pardle like

well, with any luck that prick gets hit by a bus

is this a joke? firstly what's the job of a football manager if not to get the best out of what he's handed to work with? secondly bolded you've highlighted everything that mclaren specifically is getting wrong through his own choices he's the only one on the planet who would choose this core ffs

can just imagine how good the defence would be with such a system too True. Keegan-esque. Score 4, leak 3 on a good day. it's really time for people to come back to earth like, unless we stop conceding goals like we're getting extra points for them going in then we are probably going to be in another relegation battle Yup, I think we have enough attacking talent to see us through right now. Priority must be a centre back and a left back. If we can get those and Thauvin too, then great, but we can't keep letting Colo/Taylor/Williamson etc. fuck up the basics each week. honestly think it's well past individuals now, until the team learns to defend as a solid unit then it doesn't matter who they bring in mbemba will end up another mbiwa and so on

I'm someone who doesn't believe in the "Pardew factor". IMO Pardew as a PL manager based on results is a 4. McClaren a 5. To me, nothing changed for me. The problem is still here. Mike Ashley. Honestly, we need a CB, LB at the very least to become a solid unit. Won't happen. go to the mike ashley thread then we're discussing mclaren here the same way we discussed everything that pardew got wrong when he manager, ashley might place restrictions but it's their job to rise above those restrictions and improve what they have mclaren, like pardew, knew what he was signing up for

Sorry just don't agree one bit with what your saying. Team selection five players in that team should be nowhere near that pitch as first choice (Anita. Colback, Hiadara, Colo, Oberton) and you could add a 6th as there is noway Cisse should be playing as a lone striker. Determined to pass the ball around do you mean sideways and backwards as there are very few forward passes of the ball. I do agree about the defence but that's no surprisse when 50% of it as I said should be nowhere near first team choices and more worrying is that the alternatives are not up to scratch either. that's true but who would have been in for colo, haidara, anita/colback? we just don't have the squad. obertan I agree with as there are 2 or 3 players should easily better than him in that position. obertan should never have been allowed to play games while aarons is alive and colo should never have been handed the captaincy and a new contract thus basically guaranteeing him a place at the heart of the defence colback and anita should not be starting together in midfield and cisse should not be playing as a lone striker with a perfect lone striker just signed sitting getting angry on the bench in terms of what mclaren has got wrong/right so far he's not doing fucking great

This guy! taylor is just as good tbh

this is what i can't let go, how badly has mclaren fucked up here? he'd not even seen colo play for him and goes and does this, i could understand letting him run his contract down, maybe, if there was no interest from palace but in extending and making him captain he's more or less sealed one CB spot for 2 years fitness permitting and he's sealed it with someone who is no longer capable at this level again i'll repeat, i'm sure this decision has nothing to do with the fact he's on the board and knows they won't spend big on the defender(s) he wants without getting rid of the likes of williamson and colo, which would appear to be impossible if we attach any value to them

what are you talking about/who are you talking to? what you've said in the last 3 posts is absolutely correct btw but what would your solution be? seems like most people here just want to continue with what we've got on the assumption that the pardew factor will wear off in time it won't, it needs eradicating from the club with better personnel selections, tactical setups and an acknowledgement that we have the worst defence in the league, or at least one of the worst 2 or 3

Can't believe people don't think it's the absolute priority for us to close up shop for the next few games, get them used to bring solid and not conceding hopefully while grabbing a point or two along the way. The alternative is mental, we'll get torn to shreds in at least 3 or 4 of the next few games and we'll be in tatters at the end of it. Confidence will be in tatters if we get a few hidings. We absolutely need to work on shape and closing gaps when opposition have ball as we look clueless. We need to hunt in packs to force mistakes and be ready to counter. We give teams too much space across midfield and allow them down the wings. When we lose it Colback and Anita should work either side with full backs and wijnaldum should drop in centre with wingers closing down full backs. Could not agree more. I think he's underestimated the state of the team in a defensive capacity since he arrived and he's got to get a handle on it. It's staggering really, you'd have thought one of these smart cunt coaches he brought in would have looked at the goals we've let in over the last 4 years and thought, "well, we'd better put a stop to that shit".

It's almost like Advocaat has always been utter shit other than buying titles with dodgy money in Scotland.

Surely this is the last thing we want? I'd sooner we try the 'McClaren way' where he learns along the way about his players, who's good enough, who's not, losing a few games, rather than putting together a team just to get a result. I saw enough against Southampton to see that this system with 2-3 players changed will do well for us. Scrapping that after one bad result against a team who've had a philosophy for the last 6 years or so, when we're trying to get to that ourselves after 4 years of dross under Pardew, would be the completely wrong way to go. Spot on mate. I think you're missing the fundamental point about shoring up the defence, it's a fucking disgrace man, and unless he gets the team solid as a unit then builds on that I don't see how it works unless they develop into Barcelona and never let the other team have the ball. Bear in mind I'm saying this as we approach our 7 game (or whatever it is) nightmare run, on the back of a poor start. For me the time to try and tighten up is against these teams, not lose the next 6-7 games then think about it.
-
I said during pre season he was making a mistake in not starting by making the team hard to beat and protecting our fucking horrible defence. Mental to say this but he needs to 'Pardew' it and probably revert to something simple like 4-4-2 with Sissoko RW, Wijnaldum and another CM, Aarons LW with Mitrocard and Perez or De Jong playing deeper trying to support. If he persists with what he's doing, i.e. Anita and Colback combo, Obertan playing at all, sticking with Cisse when we can't keep the ball, and not acknowledging that his chosen captain is shot to fuck then things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.

His decision on Colo is what will define him as our manager tbh. He's essentially guaranteed we won't get a quality, experienced CB. Can't help feel being part of the board influenced it.

The only valid point here is the fitness one, but considering both Aarons and Perez looked fine pre season and Obertan could hardly walk after 60 minutes leaving his fullback exposed then it doesn't make sense. 45 or 60 minutes of Aarons or Perez is better than 90 of Obertan.
