  1. depends who they're from surely? a blood-sucking agent trying to peddle his wares to anyone who'll but wouldn't be on my list of good sources how many times are NUFC supposed to have bid for a player only for nothing whatsoever to come of it? a lot
  2. promising stuff, who says the club aren't after players still ffs, we've probably got 5 or 6 offers for players including Arda Turan, it's up to the clubs and agents to start progressing through the moves wait a minute, we're allowed to believe the papers again are we?! when did i miss this? thought our deals would undetectable to the human eye now...
  3. agree about bentley totally, if he wasn't english and the 17m fee bullshit was being span everyone would be laughing like fuck - bentley is a prime example of the lack of top class talent in the english game these days, he's good but he's not even one of the best players in the EPL imo might get better in a better team is suppose, but does anyone see him (assuming he signs for spurs say) going into a game against the "top four" and dominating it? me either
  4. i would FUCKING love him to tell liverpool to dance and go to arsenal, like it even more if villa accept a lower fee...something about liverpool is just getting under my skin these days, as brummie says it seems they think they can do whatever the fuck they want on a wider point wenger really needs to sign some steel at CB & CM for next season or they'll be looking at another season of disapppointment imo, not sure barry is right for them
  5. we've taken a metz lad on trial and are being linked to this kid now - 2 relegated french clubs, interesting transfer policy if the 2nd one is true not saying they can't be good 'cause they were in relegated teams, far from it, just that it's not what i'd been hoping for personally...sounds like we're looking at them 'cause they'll be cheap as much as anything else
  6. That just means he didn't score, doesn't it? some people, glass half empty....
  7. Maybe so but that goes with Dyer as well and he was one of our best players anyway. And Aimar should be only half of Dyer's wages so I'm quite willing to take the risk is that's our only possibility for a decent playmaker who can open up opponents defences... for 7m? rather we spent that on an up and comer in the same position - seems you're guaranteed neither fitness nor form from aimar (i know only one person has said that but his recent descent suggests it's probably accurate)
  8. ah, oh dear, oh deary me...it was years ago i remember him being good (under cuper i think, or benitez's early seasons) christ on a bike, hope this is one of the links that the press are totally making up, i really do
  9. in 13 pages has anyone offered an explanation of how aimar went from valencia & being "the next maradona", to zaragoza and relegation (right?), and now to being flogged to all and sundry middling teams like us yet the price seems to be 7m? injuries? desire? fall out with management? seems a very, very strange link for us given some of our recent history (luque for example)
  10. Agree with most of this - however, the difference between now and 1999 is that there is far more money(and therefore competition for players)in other clubs like Spurs, Everton, Pompey etc., and that, coupled with the ability some of them have to offer European Football, means we have a much more difficult task to rebuild the side. I suspect a finish between 8th-11th unless there are some major signings in crucial areas by the start of the season again, agree 100% - nothing season expected, possibly a brief flirtation with a uefa cup spot before the carpets whipped out from under us still time for fat mike to change those expectations though! kind of worried by how our start might affect things as well mind; right now you'd be foolish to assume people are not going to be a bit down when the season kicks off having likely expected more in terms of transfers than we appear to be going to get...combine that with a potentially difficult (i hesitate to say catastrophic) start & it could have us in dire trouble with the wolves at the door still in homage to dave a battling result at man u first day and we'll be on the way!!! come ooooooooooooooooon
  11. Ozzie, not sure we've ever agreed on anything before but you've nailed it with this like, 100%. Only proviso I would add is we seemed to be skint at that time and robson balanced the books for a couple of seasons before the bellamy/robert summer spend. I just can't see why we would need to balance the books right now, especially with TV money the way it is and having a billionaire owner. It's back to the uncertainty though isn't it? If we knew we were looking at a couple seasons of clearing out shit and building a tidy squad before making a break for the top with a big spend then I'd be fine with that, problem is we don't know that yet. Anyways, situations are comparable indeed on the playing side.
  12. It is a shame and shows what can go wrong when potential deals are made public, all the more reason to keep them quiet. the club blame the chronicle 4 this, this is why they've veen cut off from the club completely now (except taylor of course) Could it be that in recent weeks no players or any of the 1st team football coaching staff have spoke to the Chron because they have been on holiday. Since the players return I have seen interviews in the Chron with Edgar, Carroll, Harper & Given + Taylor. As for the club blaming the Chron for not signing Modric pass me the straws your clutching at bro. It wasn't that long James (iirc) was blaming sinister controlling agents. yeah, i thought the inside track was his agent decided on spurs despite us bidding more and offering more wages right? what the fucks that got to with anything being leaked to the press? they decided not to talk to us from what i've heard here
  13. One might (facetiously) suggest that Jonas Guiterrez was a 10+m "rated" player who we not only managed to sign without anyone knowing anything, but also managing not to pay said 10m+ one might yes, however one might also say that when this "rate" was proposed to interested parties by mallorca they ran a mile
  14. this will only apply when we sign (or indeed bid for?) someone of sufficient stature a club capable of hijacking the deal would be interested in, to date we're pretty fucking far from that aren't we?
  15. Maybe because the press knowing about our transfer dealings and the quality of the players involved are logically related? Do you really think we will sign top quality, high profile players without the press having a clue until it happens? A relatively unknown Argentinian and a low profile Liverpool youth/squad player yes, but somebody being courted by other big clubs? If so, what went wrong in the Modric (no) deal? he won't answer this. Unbelievable's point is the best one yet on our transfers this summer - when we sign a 10m+ player this summer under the noses of the press i'll listen and doff my cap accordingly, til then i'm finding it unlikely there are reams of journalists hanging about liverpools training ground to see who their reserves are signing for, and we managed to keep it from them more likely no-one gives a flying fuck whether danny guthrie signs for bolton or newcastle (his reported choices) 'cause it's not newsworthy
  16. successive shit manager who've been more concerned with saving their own skins than improving and looking after our players, especially the younger ones unless KK doesn't fancy the lad at all i think he's worth one last shot - i see a big difference with him and the days of dyer bellamy etc...
  17. could see pompey picking him up for about 10p and turning him into the player he should be, like redknapp has done with a number of players
  18. that's why i said player/price jesus if you're gonna say something at least do it right
  19. [again if true] it'll be interesting to look back in september and see if gutierrez & guthrie were us getting in some squad depth before moving for our real targets, or whether this level of player/price IS our real target...
  20. know nothing about him - if it turns up true then is he one of the 4-5 young players pushing the first team, or one of the definate 4-5 first team starters?
  21. i actually like the way he fancies a move to arsenal or spurs, not that they've bid for him or anything, he just fancies it might apply the same logic and try and get a contract with barcelona myself, or into angelina jolie's knickers
  22. this is exactly my opinion but apparently as a young french lad thousands of miles from home he shouldn't have that opinion, nor does the effect of two (three if you want to be picky) disgraceful managers on his game count either!
  23. mackay right? any coincidence all his players and deals go to shit in the end? can anyone think of a player of his who got better?
  24. can't, i live in a cave in afganistan... ok pass the turban round at your end. eeeeeeeeasy
