nodding of the head here in releasing bramble i'd say fat sam instantly swept to 50% of reaching total credibility at the club, it would have been easier to keep bramble and try and turn him around again to make the magic 100% mark he needs to ship dyer - he's the one remaining link to our recent nightmarish past and severing that link will go a long way to changing the culture at the club both on and off the pitch

Sadly this is typical of the Anti-Dyer lobby. Foam-flecked hatred which makes you wonder whether they can't present reasonable arguments for their case. arguments have been put, they've just been ignored 'cause you can't read them in rose tinted spectacles again though; his shooting is appalling, his crossing is appalling, his passing is appalling, his tackling is appalling, his positional sense is non-existent, his dribbling is only OK but is largely directionless, he has no isea how to utilise his pace in a game of professional football, he can't even spell "football brain", HE REFUSED TO PLAY FOR THE CLUB & BOBBY ROBSON that's it summed up in a nutshell and i haven't even mentioned his off the field exploits, numerous chances to turn it around, injury record, fighting on the pitch and so on....oh yes i have so there you have it friend, foam-flecked indeed but in no way untrue his shooting is appalling, No it isn't, he has scored some absolute blinders - not everyone can hit a dead ball like Shearer but that doesn't make their shooting 'appalling'. his crossing is appalling, He isn't a conventional winger though, he usually cuts in from wide and plays the ball low, something which Arsenal have done under Wenger for years, his passing is appalling, Is that why he used to play so many great one-twos with Solano when we finished 3rd under Robson? his tackling is appalling, He's no centre back it's true. his positional sense is non-existent, Must be why so many of our goals on the counter revolve around this fast breaking midfielder then. Stupid idiot doesn't realise he's in the wrong place obviously. his dribbling is only OK but is largely directionless, he has no isea how to utilise his pace in a game of professional football, not obvious to many, but dribbling at pace makes picking out team mates that much more difficult. He could always stop and take a look around for a bit I suppose. he can't even spell "football brain", HE REFUSED TO PLAY FOR THE CLUB & BOBBY ROBSON well at least he didn't stub a cigar into his eye. Look on the positives. ok i'll put aside the vitriol for a second and answer your points regarding shooting i'll side with "Jonny Sack" and question where these great goals he's scored are? as the guy "khyberpss" says he opts to pass more often than shoot which begs the question why if he has such a good shot? the goals i remember him scoring, in fact, are basically all side footed "passed shots" such as arsenal away where he showed great composure well above his usual level - he is basically the new jigsaw people are quoting 7 goals last season like it's some big fucken deal - a top class midfielder is expected to get double figures fact passing - one-two aren't really an example that someone is a good passer of the ball, they're an example in this instance that he's playing with an intelligent player such as solano who as i recall it used to force dyer into the space with the types of balls he'd play back to him, dyer himself has no range of passing whatsoever beyond about 10 feet....how many times does he set off on the counter with purpose only for the move to fall apart due to the quality of his pass? a lot is answer as for his crossing how many goals do we get from his cut backs? could be wrong again but i'm sure his assists figures are also embarrasingly low for someone who gets in consistenly good positions positional sense works in many ways and i'd argue that goals on the counter attack are generally (football wide) down to moving the ball fast rather then someone having good positional sense...it's a strength dyer does have, the ability to use his burst of pace and set us on the way, however as moves develop how many times do they collapse as a result of his inability to pass/cross accurately or explout the space i take your point about dribbling at pace being hard but then he's not paid to do easy shit is he? football is littered with the dead careers of people who could run fast and had tricks but ultimately were not good enough (why this doesn't apply to dyer is beyond me)....as for utilisiation of pace i liken him to keith gillespie in that if they had it upstairs they'd know when to be hanging on the shoulder of a full back to develop holes on the pitch, dyer has utterly no idea if you ask me as for the cigar stubbing out what's the supposed to prove? we have signed a player who made some mistakes? big deal, he never made any of them here and if we're sitting looking at joey barton in 7 years time when he's spent 50% of his life injured and never fulfilled his potential while being paid all the money in the world i'll be saying the same about him too he's had enough chances and enough excuses made for him, time to say goodbye

barca aren't interested from what i understand, there was a barca suit (i think) the other day saying lampard had been offered to them, real, inter and someone else, possibly milan said there were no takers 'cause he wasn't good enough, particularly creatively and technically

our season was utter pish from start to finish so how exactly did it "turn around"? i'd like to see more views on dyers effect on the season however; my recollection was he had an impact when he returned from injury for about 5 games then disappeared as per usual martins was the one who "turned our season around" in my opinion but he's shite apparently and not worth more than one season...

oh dear lord, you've just put him in the same sentence as Scholes, Giggs and Fabregas...

i gave up years on the EC ago when i was walking down northumberland street and read the headline "toon to sign starlet" bought the paper and it was a story about us signing one of our own youth team players on a professional contract, with the added insult that it was someone shite like paul brayson or whoever that was it for me like

don't underestimate the fact that arsenal were selling henry abroad in order to stop him playing for a premiership rival wenger has a history of this, selling his players abroad for not always phenomenal fees in order to stop them joining a rival - viera went relatively cheap i seem to remember too, and although he got better fees for petit/overmars and of course anelka he still sold them abroad if liverpool had bid for henry, or obviously chel$ki or man u, you're talking a 25m price tag for sure....selling to barca for a lower fee ensures someone they rate extremely highly isn't a direct threat to them next season and in the future....

how can you make statements like this? is it a bad joke? he's certainly not an asset on the pitch is he? statistics and peoples own eyes tell us that he doesn't sell shirts as such or raise our profile with any audience i can think of, therefore he's not a commercial asset what other type of asset is there for a football player to be? he's not a role model in any sense to anyone therefore he's not a moral asset i'm running out of ideas here, someones gonna need to help me out he's an asset to the treatment table, his own bank balance, to lurid newpaper headlines and of course his agent...beyond that he's a total and utter liability

Although he's still young, he doesn't come across as a typical 'big game player' a la Gerrard at all. In fact I think it took him something like 9 games against Real Madrid before he scored a goal. My prediction is he'll get about 14 or 15 league goals, something decent but not amazing considering it's Liverpool. I think he'll find this league a tougher one than Spain (his physical presence over there means nothing over here) but he'll be playing for a better team. haven't you just repeated exactly what i said in my original post there? i said i believed benitez has bought him with the intention of him being the big game player - after all they've got enough bellamy's and kuyt's who don't cut the mustard against top class teams or score enough in the league so why else would they buy torres? if he was buying him NOT to be a big game player then he might as well just stick with what he's got, no?
-
No suprise there tbh. Deco is one of the pivotal figures in my 'world's most overrated list' although Ibrahimovic is currently beating him to top spot. oh jesus christ tell me you didn't just say ibrahimovic is overrated, please tell me that form a spurs fan and all - ba ha ha ha
-
someone else to play in the positions dyer can play!! hm is that the missionary position, taken from the back with the video camera positioned correctly or is it the ones with his lawyer where he's acting contrite over his latest misdemeanour? it certainly can't be any FOOTBALL positions 'cause he's shite in 'em all
-
see this type of player, you'd have to think, is being bought by liverpool so he can perform in the big games basically gerrard aside that's what liverpool have lacked especially in the EPL chel$ki (drogba), man u (ronaldo, rooney) and arsenal (henry, ahem) all have them and i think this is what benitez is aiming at here...the type of player that performs on the big occaision basically 'cause gerrard can't do it all the time is torres that man then? his record against real and barca might give some indication - my memories suggest it's not great against real but good against barca....someone to confirm?
-
woah! 13 goals last season, what's obagoals worth then?
-
i'd argue that david villa is a far better goalscorer, however i'd say that torres is the better player
-
either the season after the celtic uefa cup final with porto when he was accused of diving all the time or his first season with barca (this is more likely) stats came out on deco that proved he ran the most, tackled the most, won the most tackles, completed most passes and had the most assists of basically anyone anywhere maybe a slight exaggeration 'cause i can't remember the details however it did happen and is basically the reason everyone rates him so highly - he looks like nowt 'cause he's tiny but appearances in this case are very much deceptive
-
Chance of seeing Torres in a City shirt = 0% Unless we swap shirts after playing Liverpool next season that is... Don't believe these particular reports for a second but if they're true, we're never gonna get anyone by aiming as high as Torres. Still think theres going to be a trophy signing tho. pity the way footballs gone eh? everyone knows their place now more or less; it's like a sporting class/caste system you gotsta spend years of toil dragging yourself along with one class of player before they let you join the country club, then you can consider aiming for people like torres.... the only exception, really, to this rule in recent times has been chel$ki who had to spend more money than should have been considered sane in order to speed up their joining the big boys look at darren bent and spurs for fucks sake - how far are those clubs apart, really? given that west ham have a SHITLOAD of money to spend they could look like a different team next season, and yet bent didn't let them through the door 'cause he was only aiming at the tier of football spurs currently occupy....teams above spurs wouldn't give him a second look 'cause he's not a big enough name such a pity that the people who play the game we love have so little undertanding of it
-
couple of points firstly; fuck owen, never wanted to be here, money ain't an issue any more so let him go and sign defoe for the same money, we'd get more games out of the lad and consequently a similar goals return secondly; martins hasn't even spoken to fat sam yet about his intentions, as admitted by fat sam himself....the rumours surrounding him are twofold, that he wants to go to back to italy and that arsenal will trigger his release clause assuming him wanting to go back to italy is correct then i'm not sure we've much of a chelp - if it's "homesickness" with the lad and he's failed to settle here then it'll be better in everyones best interests if he goes assuming the arsenal rumour is true then i can only see him leaving if fat sam doesn't get chance to talk to him first....at the end of the day arsenal are in transition, as are we, but our transition is headed one way only and arsenals might not be in the direction everyone thinks....if martins had any sense he'd reject arsenals approach and see what happens just because a release clause is triggered doesn't mean the players gotsta go!! personally i like the lad and would love to see what allardyce could do with him, he's got so much desire/pace/strength/skill - can you imagine how good he could be with a good manager channelling it correctly?
-
i'm astounded this is even being debated to be honest dyer has never been good enough or fit enough, end of story....he had some youthful promise as a bairn but pissed it up a wall and put the rest on lurid sex videos WITHOUT the takeover i was jumping around like a chimp throwing shit at the walls at the prospect of this odious little bastard being punted out of toon, we could have replaced him with a fucken mannequin on roller skates really, cheaper and same end product WITH the takeover i'm amazed people are even thinking keeping him is an option - surely with 1.9bn in his pocket mike ashley could pick up a slightly less handsomely paid useless pile of shit? or is it just me...
-
yup
-
man i think we're getting on our high horses a bit here aren't we? as the boy eaststar points our we're hardly in a position to laugh at or criticise anybody for paying high fees for players are we? fact is i'd pay that for bent simply for the fact he's doing what he's doing at 22 years of age name me another player who is basically GUARANTEED to get you 20 goals a season at 22 years of age for 16.5m....if he was italian or spanish no-one would care...torres is the same age as bent as is going for 27m and his scoring record is FAR inferior to bent so where's the chelp coming from? compare it that and it looks shrewd to me fact is this time last year everyone went mental about carricks fee and look what happened there - my fear is that spurs have just concluded a similarly effective piece of business
-
That's not a bad call actually. someone mentioned on another post but a similar topic manuel fernades and i'd tend to think what i've seen of him he could do the business as well, and might be another realistic option....looks like he has the potential to be top class
-
again, i did put in bold letters "once the squad rebuilding is done" but don't let that deter you
-
shower of bastards someone could have actually read what i wrote about the meaning of a "trophy signing" in this instance rather than just, well, not bothering
