Diego Reyes, pls. Gio pls. Dos Santos? He hasn't had a relevant moment at club level in this decade and failed to stick at Galatasaray and Santander. Rubbish.

Brazil are never going to win this. They come so close every time.

Memories of Zulte Waregem. It is a fantastic accomplishment for them to have made it this far. They deserve credit for their accomplishments given their humble background. We should beat them without mercy.

If they played him he would do alright IMO, obviously they won't though. As I said earlier, Moses will be a good player at that level if they actually give him time on the pitch. I like his game, and his individual skill, physical attributes, and goal threat would be extremely useful for an impact player. If Abramovich continues buying everything in sight, he can enjoy the massive wage packet as he spends his mid-20s on loan to clubs like Norwich and Sunderland
-
You've forgotten the most important part of this. He will not have been on high wages in either London or Swansea. Being given 60,000 to sit on the substitutes bench is a much different prospect than doing it on youth player wages. Most players will think they are good enough to make it at the top level. He's 23, had a breakthrough last term, and is now in the spotlight playing for his country. Thoughts about not being good enough for the top level are not is his mind right now. I feel the same about Victor Moses. He really has potential and is making himself a fixture in the future of the national team, but I question whether his proposed move to Chelsea is a good one. If their squad stays as is, he can fill his pockets and essentially replace what Kalou did for them (probably doing a better job as well). However, if Abramovich is going to spend crazy amounts every window to try and compete with the likes of Man City, PSG, Real, and Barcelona, the move may be a waste of time.

I can't blame City, Chelsea, or any other club. The way top, European football is designed creates massive gaps in spending and monopolies at the top that are exacerbated over time. Aggressive spending is the mst efficient way of success. It is the system itself more than anything else.

Is Lucas more of a wing player of attacking midfielder? I'm not even sure where he will play for PSG. They already have Pastore, Menez, Lavezzi, Ibrahimovic, Gameiro (who I suppose might be sold along with Hoarau), etc. The team just seem to be accumulating talent. They've already been linked to selling Sakho, which also seems to make little sense. It doesn't matter, as their players are so superior, but I don't understand why they are so eager to discard/replace good players.
-
More like Ligue 1 from 2001-2008. PSG will clearly be the best team now, but there is enough quality and money in the rest of the league to keep things vaguely competitive, imo.

I'm not convinced Kagawa is actually a world class player or someone who will consistently produce at the highest level of the game. I like his game, and he will have a long, productive career, but I don't think he is a truly special talent. His stature seems to have grown substantially because Man U signed him.

None of these players impress me if you are trying to say they have the best front four in the world. Most top teams have similarly intimidating lines.
-
England/UK came up against a talented side and lost a game the should have won. Why does this necessitate criticism?
-
Sturridge is easily one the top players from that team. I hope he doesn't catch abuse because his penalty was actually saved (he didn't miss).
-
Russia is such a rubbish league (not in terms of talent, necessarily, but everything else). Considering his age and his performances in a top league, you'd think Rondon would be able to find high wages and European football without having to take that route. I don't see why it is a top option, especially for someone with darkish skin, but South Americans and Africans keep jumping at the chance to go their.

The fee will be higher because Azpi is younger. This is the only reason. He is a good player though, with the potential to become top class if he can avoid injury (he tore his knee last year) and is nurtured correctly. I think Azpi and Moses would both be good signings for the London club, and would also keep their net spend below 100 million pounds.
-
Definitely. A well groomed athlete with top quality training programmes and diet control can maintain themselves well into their mid-late thirties. The problem that arises in most cases is chronic injury.
-
I don't see why footballers should feel obligated to play for one club when others desire their services. Fulham can relinquish his wages if he refuses to play. Selling him would be the more intelligent move, though.
-
Nosa Igiebor had agreed a transfer from Hapoel to Real Betis in Spain, but the move has collapsed because the player demanded a pay raise to the contract he had seemingly already agreed to. From what I can gather, the pay they offered was extremely low for a player in La Liga, but Nosa's actions still don't make much sense. Trust that agent politics are involved.

Since we've gone to u-23 for Olympics Ghana, Poland, Nigeria (twice), Cameroon, Chile, and Paraguay have all medalled. The lack of all the senior players makes it so every team with a good amount of talent has a chance to go far. I always enjoy the tournament, good football and many surprises.

Of course, but it's not easy for a club like Lille to replace a France international and probably their best player. I have no problem with the way Lille are doing this. It's what we have said about our club earlier. The the replacement in before selling the player. The only way to do it. They're not a club that can attract great players and at the same time their best players want to leave. It sucks for them but it's reality. The last two seasons they have brought in Roux, Payet, Kalou, and Marvin Martin. Honestly, they've replaced their outgoings quite well. It is a very well-run club.
-
So they both go half way around the world to play each other instead of playing some local teams? It's situations like these that makes people think the 39th game might be a good idea. Baltimore doesn't have any team, and they wouldn't fill the stadium with MLS teams.

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Pilko's topic in Football
Falcao is a foolish comparison as he is simply a much better technical footballer and all around player than Carroll will ever be. -
It is really quite odd to see Villa expanding their recruitment outside of the Premiership and SPL. A new strategy for them.
-
I think QPR will firmly establish themselves as a big spending lower midtable side over the next 2-3 years. They'll be the Sunderland of London.

The Olympic win in Rio 2016 will heal the wounds inflicted by Victor Moses and Joel Obi at the World Cup.

I recognised that GB performance. Talented, athletic players (lacking in technical proficiency) who do well for their clubs looking lost in defence, playing statically in attack and having an indescribably rubbish lack of formation and shape. This was every Nigeria performance I have ever witnessed. Pearce is a rubbish manager, frankly, but I expect GB to make the semifinals at the least. Annoyed we are not in this as we finished 2nd last time. I love football at the Olympics, and this should be one of the best tournaments they've ever had.
