  1. This guy is genuinely the best striker in the world at this moment. He is completely ridiculous.
  2. I just hope that this lot are not as overly negative as they were at SJP. For all the talk of good football, they were one of the worst teams we've played all season.
  3. The Swansea description generally sounds like one of the best midfielders in the history of the game, tbf. Great player, but he has the temperament of a wild, crack addicted dog. Nothing like Lampard at all.
  4. None since he made his debut, yeah, but since he's arrived at the club, we've sold Nolan (our top scorer), Barton (our top assist maker), and Enrique (a high quality defender we've not replaced). Players do not come into the club blind. He will have known about the importance of these players and the Carroll incident in January. If we tore the squad apart in the two windows before he arrived, what would prevent this from happening again?
  5. Is Good Friday meant to be a bank holiday in England? Seems a crazily inconvenient time for a football match.
  6. The guy is a fairly acceptable person, but he is not brilliant ffs.
  7. Premier League leaders in goal per minute: Papiss Cisse Newcastle United 504 7 72.00 Mario Balotelli Manchester City 1221 13 93.92 Robin van Persie Arsenal 2524 26 97.08 Wayne Rooney Manchester United 2259 21 107.6 Pavel Pogrebnyak Fulham 545 5 109.0 Edin Dzeko Manchester City 1442 13 110.9 Jermain Defoe Tottenham Hotspur 1023 9 113.7
  8. James - Gervinho Can't finish. Elokobi and Berbatov? I don't know, man.
  9. Euro 2004 was an atrocity, imo. Inferior to WC 2002 and 2010.
  10. Shevchenko, like Torres did not fit Chelsea's style at all, imo. He also joined at a time where there was no incentive to change the style for him as Drogba was one of the world's best strikers and Chelsea were probably one of the top 3-4 teams on the planet. He lacked the requisite physicality and pace for them, imo, and he was definitely on a sharp early decline already given his lack of success after leaving London. Simply the wrong move at the wrong time for a fantastic footballer.
  11. Maybe I am mad, but something I would love to see is a 40 team World Cup format, where 24 of the qualifiers are guaranteed automatic qualification to the group stage (a certain requirement for each federation+the most highly ranked sides) and the remaining 16 can either play home/away knockouts or one match playoffs at the World Cup site to be placed in a predetermined group spot. This I would enjoy for the excitement alone.
  12. 24 team tournaments are terrible. The only way I would enjoy it is if the eight most highly ranked teams were given a "bye" and the remaining sixteen played a one match seeded playoff to see who made the final sixteen. I understand this would be incredibly difficult logistically, but I hate any tournament system where we are comparing team from different groups.
  13. I don't think they will be tbh. I fancy that to be decided by the odd goal.
  14. Mourinho overuses players. My one issue with the manager. I distinctly remember him running out the full first teams in Carling cup and Copa matches for no particular reason.
  15. I don't know how you can afford this lifestyle. I went to see Marseille at the Emirates (70 pounds for a brilliant view of a boring 0-0) and had to fast for about a month, and this was without paying travel costs. When I do go to SJP, I am going for the most inexpensive seat allowed by law. Where are these?
  16. To me it is amazing that he is already 25, which is not particularly young in football terms. It's partly due to his own idiocy and youthful petulance, but his career has never properly started. There have always been barriers in his way that have prevented him from settling down and using his enormous and undoubted talent. At Lyon we saw flashes and at OM we saw more flashes, but this was it. It seems he has made the necessary changes and may have found a boss that truly believes in him.The next few years should been quite fruitful. With a player of his talent, you would think bigger/richer clubs would look past his previous flaws and make offers for him if he consistently performs for a good period (i.e. Anelka at Bolton), but with what has happened to him and what this club has done for him, I think Hatem will be loyal.
  17. Are Villa low on funds, btw? I don't understand why they are playing such a high number of youth and homegrown players. I suppose it is admirable in some ways, but clearly they need o reevaluate the strategy.
  18. Another example of why 0-0 is a terrible result in the home leg. Pressure is solely on Barcelona despite having dominated both legs.
  19. Cassano is back from his incident with the stroke and heart attack, but I doubt he is available or registered.
  20. Olic. The result was fairly obvious. This will be the ninth consecutive match Marseille have gone without winning. Disgusting form. It is time for Ibrahimovic to show himself.
  21. I have had a grudge against Barcelona in Europe ever since UEFA handed them the title in 2009 and everyone acted like it was some victory for football. That reaction turned me against the cult of thought that had become loving Barcelona. I hate Milan more than most teams in the world though, so Viva Barca!
  22. I'm torn between watching OM capitulate to Bayern and the big match in Barcelona. My loyaltes lie elsewhere, but I don't want to be sitting in boredom, while the rest of the world is captivated.
  23. I believe Milan will score tonight. Can Barcelona score twice?!
  24.  The idea of people in Newcastle thinking of fufu delights me. We should start selling puff-puff and chin-chin at Greggs. Curry Goat is hardly uniquely African, tbf, the last time I had it was outside the Emirates before the Marseille match. Cisse and Ba will score hat tricks if we bring jolof rice. This guy is going to be a brilliant signing, btw. Immensely talented and seems delighted to be here. I think he will stay for a good five years.
  25. I'm not his biggest supporter in life, but he knows how to use his pace and is actually quite skillful and dangerous. He's different to Marveaux because he is more explosive and just a different option. I actually would not mind him at all as an impact substitute in the 4-3-3 system we have used lately if he would accept that role at a bigger club. Samuel is not good enough for now and Vuckic failed to make an impact in the Championship. Next season we need to ship out some of our reserve players who are not up to much, have our promising youngsters on loans where they will play more than five minute cameos and bring in 2-3 quad players who can actually do a job. This is especially true if we are in Europe and Guthrie leaves (which he should).
