As some (all?) of the African teams discovered at the last World Cup appointing someone one month before a major championship is a suicidal way of doing business. He'll have no more than a few weeks and 2 or 3 matches to shape his team, nothing will change about the team as a result. England will inevitably fail (through no fault of Hodgson) and the manager will lose his job. The situation is extremely unfortunate.

Has Modeste gotten a game since managing to miss ten or so chances against us in his full debut? I always see Yakubu and Goodwillie when I happen to notice Blackburn.

He tried to change things for the benefit of the long term. RdM has simply looked at the short term and for now its working, next season Chelsea still need to rebuild - not convinced he is the man for that and unless the likes of Terry conform or are shipped out they wil struggle again I feel like it is possible to rebuild without alienating the entire squad, turning a extremely solid defensive team into a sieve, and performing like a midtable side. Villas-Boas is given far too much credit. People talk about the owner's impatience, but he did a completely atrocious job.

Chelsea vs Newcastle United - 02/05/12 @ 7.45pm - pre-match thread

If anything, I'd expect them to rest the more heavily used players for the game today against QPR. If they win tomorrow, they'll be a point behind us with three matches to go. I doubt they'll be sleeping through it. -
He hasn't been grafting in any way that's been effective of useful to the team. He's looked exhausted from the start.

Our biggest variable going into next season. If he plays like has from the ACN on (inlcuding his games with Senegal), then he is nowhere good enough to be in our first team and is an injury prone player on high wages. I wish he would show something in the last two and a half games to make me think he'll continue to produce next season. His performances have been sluggish and inept.

 Wolves have absolutely no interest in these last games. I actually feel quite terrible for their manager.
-
I like some of their players, but Wigan are essentially a waste of time and space. Let's relegate them.

I don't think Marin fits in well with Chelsea. Di Matteo (who will get the job unless Guardiola asks for it) plays 4-2-3-1 almost always, and I don't believe he is good enough to replace Mata from the centre or athletic/hard-working enough to perform the yeoman duties this formation requires of wide players. Anyway, he is undoubtedly talented and better than the likes of Sturridge, so I am sure the 933 million Chelsea supporters in Africa will enjoy him.

People forget that he's younger than the likes of Perch and Gary Cahill and plays a position that is dominated by older players throughout Europe. He's just entering his prime now and should be a fixture in our team for a very long time. However, he has also proven himself to be very susceptible to injury in his short career and that has to be considered. It's three consecutive seasons now that he's missed the majority of our matches and our transfer policy should reflect his inability to stay on the pitch. -
Will the Americans be showing it on a channel that exists in my realm of existence? (we spent 30 minutes yesterday in the television room trying to find this "FX") I'm not sure if I'll still be over here by that time, but I'd like to be able to watch it on television if so.

The amount of people who have been "gutted" about the results the past two days has been ridiculous, imo. Let us finish 3rd or 4th before even thinking about how Chelsea affects us. The London team have a decent chance against either side because they are quite good and extremely experienced. Still, Bayern will be massive favourites.

Mourinho simply left seconds after the goal.

They send the 18 year old up first?

Players missing a final because of accumulative yellow cards. I've never understood it.

This Alaba looks a fantastic prospect. Shame he chose Austria.

Pepe is genuinely a disgrace to the game. Completely ridiculous.
