I went to the Emperor's Cup Final in Tokyo yesterday. The match itself was horrendous, 0-0 for 120 minutes then penalties, but there was great atmosphere in the ground. My first time attending a match in Japan and was certainly impressed by the experience, if not the quality of play. The stadium itself was beautiful, unfortunately there was a massive athletics track surrounding it, but that was always going to be the case given it was built for the Olympics. My wife preferred it to matches in Europe as it was very orderly and there were far less drunken fools kn and around the ground Congratulations to Kawasaki Frontale!

I am not a fan of the "stick your foot in front of the defender who is clearing the ball and get 'fouled' penalty" in general, tbh. That's one of the worst examples of hit; barely any contact, possibly none. No apologies, though, the shoe has been on Newcastle's foot many times.

If Gordon had fallen after the first challenge, ref would probably have given a foul, but there wasn't one. Good finish from Nmecha. NUFC have been easily second best so far.

Bassey looks like me when I play at weekends, as though they found a basketball player and just put him in defence. Big, awkward, and sowing panic whenever he is in possession. So poor.

Bassey has been poor in general since leaving Rangers. He was very good in Europe for that team and was a breath of fresh air when he came into the national team. The boy has been a disastrous defender since he left them for Ajax; plays with zero confidence and consistent panic. Joe Aribo followed the same course when he left Rangers.

This team needs better attacking production from wide in general. Both fullbacks and wingers. All the players in these positions are competent, but none are special.

Disgraceful performance. No plan to control the match with ten, even before the subs. So little composure and intelligence.

Ah-wo-ni-yi. I feel Kaka's pain, as a Yoruba man, hearing this boys name mentioned by commentators is consistently annoying.

To be truthful, I did not watch this match outside of the last five minutes + stoppage time, so I cannot comment on this. I just turned the match on and hopped to my favourite internet football forum to see the narrative of the game. Ayew's name was mentioned and I gave the necessary response. That man debuted at OM in 2008 or 9. At this point in life, I have grown to be an outwardly respectable man in society with a wife and four children. Jordan Ayew has been following me around with his rubbishness for the entirety of my adult life. I heavily dislike him.

Ayew is the calibre of player that is usually signed by Sivasspor on free transfer, having been out of contract for six months. I will never understand why he starts for Palace every week. He has had a long career at the top club level in Europe and the top international level in Africa despite being rubbish the entire time.

I cannot imagine Forest selling him for any reasonable amount at this point of the season. The links to Gift Orban make more sense to me as a young talent available at a decent price. Taiwo has surprised me. It was obvious he would be a handful, but he has markedly improved in front of goal.

It annoys me that Man U and the media have spent months acting as though this is some difficult, painful decision. It is an act. The boy is free of legal troubles, and the talent he displayed at a young age is easily worth whatever negative press they will receive for playing him for a club primarily concerned with results and finances. If Mendy was a 21 year old English international forward instead of a disposable defender, his story would have progressed differently as well. Everyone is free to talk about the morality of the club and condemn Greenwood as a person, but this was always the obvious outcome when the charges were dropped.

French clubs collectively always underachieve in Europe at all levels, it is incredible. OM, as per usual, one of the worst offenders.

Klopp is definitely second of the ones mentioned thus far. I have hated Pep for at least a decade, tbf.

Guardiola is less aggressive in his normal disposition than managers like Jose, but I thought it was generally accepted that he was a smug, passive aggressive, self-congratulatory arsehole, dating back to Barca. When did this change? . I dislike him more than any other "top manager", tbh.

This will be another boring season.

One of the Nigeria players was given a red card for a terrible challenge in the first match, and was still banned today. Given James was violent conduct, she is out of the World Cup. I don't recall the men's rule being this harsh, tbh.

Well done to England and credit to Nigeria for overperforming expectations in this tournament, especially defensively. I cannot claim to be an expert of women's football that I haven't watched since last WC/Olympics or of this match that I started watching at extra time, but to me this is a massive waste. The better side and an advantage with 11 v. 10, but no idea how to attack when it is not in transition. Just long balls to the forwards, no progession through midfield, and then rubbish penalties. No time to claim moral victory, there is potential with investment, but we have been saying this about the men for decades.

Nigeria v. England and South Africa v. Netherlands in the round of 16. For the sake of continental pride and history, we need at least one of the African sides to win the derby against the colonial power. Credit to Reggae Girlz as well, they have been very solid in defence and deserve to go through. This tournament does seem like a transition to a new era of the game. Marta and the Canada lady unceremoniously dumped out of the group stage, the USA looking very average with other nations taking the sport seriously, and the lesser teams being quite strong.

Massive win! No support from the federation and low expectations, but they have been strong and organised with real threat upfront with Ajibade and Oshoala. Proud of the girls. Ireland will not be easy to beat, but they are in a strong position. 13 minutes added+keeper out at sea for every corner and striker trying lobs from 30 yards rather than taking it to the corner. Unnecessary nerves. Australia will still beat Canada and go through.

Oshoala impact was instant, both the corner and the goal came from her pressuring the backline with pace. Just have to hold on now!

The bar is so low that an infant may not walk under it, but this Alozie is easily the finest girl to play for Nigeria in memory. We are competitive so far, but the attacking players look like they have just met. No cohesive play, every pass is wrong and Kanu especially is betraying her surname. This tournament is interesting so far. Women have improved in general; Zambia is the only team that looks out of place. USA has been underwhelming.
