This is the Manchester United I grew up watching.

Champions League 2025/26 - Round of 16 - Barcelona
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to 54's topic in Football
This is the much easier side of the draw. There is a chance to genuinely go far in this competition. Barcelona and Atletico are more talented than Newcastle, but very inconsistent and show vulnerabilities often. Arsenal are a strong side, but one NUFC match up well against who will be preoccupied with a title push. The rest of the teams on this side are inferior, imo. There is a real chance if we can just somehow take advantage of the high line and send Barcelona home. -
Spurs are not even a top ten side in this league by talent, tbh. The likes of Fulham are better. The manager is the least of their problems.

I feel like Kolo Muani is a good player that has just made odd/wrong career choices since Frankfurt. Would be interested in seeing what Howe could do with him.

This guy looks like he has declined physically from last season, tbh. I dunno if I've seen him look comfortable or seemingly at full exertion once this season.

This format is honestly funny. With so many matches happening at once it is hard to even know what is needed until the final fifteen minutes or so of the match. Teams and fans both scrambling to understand where they lie Credit to Benfica for instantly scoring once Jose realised they needed a goal. OM deserve to be out; embarrassing results throughout the competition. Worst team in the tournament along with Napoli.

A win for Senegal! A win for ALL OF AFRICA!! A tournament fixed for Morocco and they can only take silver.
-
Two bookings for dissent when the entire team left the pitch for ten minutes The last AFCON was a new standard for officiating in Africa and this is new low.
-
The referee has just openly been in favour of Morocco the last three matches. It's a disgrace. Nigeria had a chance to win regardless, so I didn't care too much, but this is legitimately a disgrace.

AFCON 2025: CAF overturn final result and award 3-0 victory to Morocco
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Mike's topic in Football
This current group of Nigeria players are mental midgets and wilt under pressure. Reprieve of AFCON is over for us. Back to the reality of a failed football system and years in the wilderness. Allez Les Lions De La Teranga. -
Newcastle United 4-3 Leeds United (07/02/26) | post-match from pg. 75

Cannot fault the general play at all, really. The individual defending has just been atrocious. So many errors. -
This Tottenham team feels like a West Ham team.

Howe won the club it's first trophy in my father's lifetime, never mind my own, and was the architect of the team and culture that has been built at Newcastle since the change in ownership. Based on this, he has earned the credit to finish the season and the benefit of a real transfer window rather than the foolishness we engaged in last summer. However, to be frank, it is hard to currently see what he is providing that NUFC could not get from other managers. This season has been massively disappointing by all measures and the team seems out of ideas at times. I do wonder if he has it in him to progress this team any further. No rush to sack him, imo, but maybe this has just run its course. Four years is a good run in modern football. We should see how the beginning of next season looks regardless.

Newcastle United 2-2 Chelsea (20/12/25) | post-match from pg. 45
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Yorkie's topic in Football
Tbh, I play as a ruffian defender, my natural instinct is to say the Chalobah incident was shoulder to shoulder, but I watch a lot of matches and never see anyone get fully shoulder checked in the box and the ref generally calls a foul if you do it anywhere else. The modern game has to be reffed entirely differently if that is now allowed Suddenly, we are back in the 70s when it is time for Newcastle to get a penalty. -

Barnes needs to stop throwing himself at the floor, tbh NUFC are not allowed to benefit from diving. -

Maybe it will come with fitness, but Wissa looks like the least physical forward they've had under Howe. Will need to work to involve him in the game. -

The only real "change" from Chelsea has been their intensity. The tactics haven't been altered much. The fact we've fallen apart under pressure says more about NUFC than Chelsea. -

If Howe keeps sitting on his hands, this will finish 4-2 or 5-2 and personally I'm not sure a direct striker swap is the answer. -
Being Nigerian is just a life of embarrassment upon embarrassment with little reprieve. Joke of country in reality, now a joke in sport. Félicitations au Congo, bien mérité. They will be better with Wissa back. Exempting teams from qualifying would be massively unfair and is unworkable, imo. Just follow the lead of CONCACAF and AFC, who are both lopsided with many nations, and make the weak teams play an additional round of qualifying.

They play Nigeria on Sunday for Africa's ticket to the intercontinental playoff. For Nigeria, that would be one more match. For DR Congo, it would depend on their ranking vs the other sides.
-
Our boy Chancel Mbemba just scored a last minute goal to knock Cameroon out of the World Cup, send DR Congo to the African playoff final, and set up Civil War in my household. God Bless him.

Tottenham play like a team of Jack Colbacks. Everyone is hiding from the ball.

Atalanta-Marseille was the worst referee performance I've seen this season.
