  1. The keeper (who runs the least of any player on the pitch) having a fake cramp at the end of the match has somehow become the preferred method of time wasting in the last few years and it is extremely annoying.
  2. You could see the goal coming through that entire sequence. Entirely unconvincing defensively.
  3. As a striker, I feel that Osula is a fairly good player, but lacks things you cannot teach that actually makes top forwards the players that they are.
  4. West Ham have decent players all over the pitch but have been in freefall without any confidence for months. It is incredibly annoying that Newcastle are the team that handed them back the momentum they need. Handed them the initiative in the match with poor play and then conceded both goals due to terrible defensive lapses.
  5. Very fair, it is self-inflicted and worthy of more criticism, though as Conjo said, that excuse is running dry. The man is just playing poorly at this point. Also just realised Sweden have a back door through playoffs, so maybe things will come together once this manager is dumped. Talent is there even with the traitor misfiring.
  6. My guy, no offense, but you sound like my countrymen blaming Osimhen for being injured or off-form when we fail to beat Zimbabwe or Lesotho. If Kosovo beats you twice in two months, the issues were deeper and one player was not the saviour. I am happy that Isak will miss out, though.
  7. Tournaments in multiples of 12 are horrendous. Europe and Africa should move to 32 and the World Cup should be 64 if we don't want 32. Small countries are decent now, I don't think any tournament would have markedly worse competition than the bastardised 24 and 48 team versions.
  8. Of course, but DRC still threw the ticket away in that instance. Even holding on to a draw from being up 2-2 would likely have made them big favourites. The playoffs are going to require winning two one match knockouts in Africa and two more against other confederations. Very difficult path. Nigeria's group was one of the easiest groups and they have completely embarrassed themselves. Nothing will change, though.
  9. I am Nigerian by birth and blood, American by dual citizenship, and Congolese by marriage. Three nations with 600+ million people between them and countless high level athletes that somehow manage to be complete shit at football. I am tired. I told myself to give up supporting the failed state of Nigeria years ago, yet here I am cursing at these fools embarrassing the national colours once again and throwing away another World Cup. Some sicknesses can never be cured. My wife and father and law were downstairs cursing at DR Congo and scaring children as they blew their chance at a ticket as well. The amount of talent (and money in America's case) wasted by these countries is ludicrous.
  10. Dance is called "fimbu", which is "whip" in Lingala. Congo always do this when they score because they are whipping the opponent. My hope is that that he does this directly in front of Sunderland supporters when he scores at SOS in the derby.
  11. He is one of the best players, so it is likely he plays both matches. But tbh, playing in South Sudan on a dirt patch and then in the madhouse that is Kinshasa against Senegal with the World Cup on the the line are not occasions for gaining match fitness You are just as likely to collect something else, so my hope is that he comes back in one piece.
  12. If we are being honest, Isak's tactics were not that unusual and it is undeniable that they were ultimately successful for his goal in this window. We are in an era where clubs excommunicate players who won't cut their wage to leave and players force their way out when the club they are contracted to will not sell them. Both are going to happen more often. What really separated Isak was the horrendous way he handled himself in the press. He looked like a petulant child, was incredibly unprofessional, and burned every bridge with the fans. Wissa is a good player and he will be productive. Good athlete and goal poacher, but I do worry that last season may have been an outlier, tbh. If the club were acquiring a Congolese striker, I might have preferred Kolo Muani, tbh. Like most, I like the signing, but question the economic side of it. Toney and Mbeumo were superior players to him at Brentford, imo. Another striker was necessary, though.
  13. Players just go to Man U and decline. I have never been a big fan of Onana, but he was a decent player at least in The Netherlands, Italy, and for Cameroon (when he wasn't rebelling against Song). Guy just gets worse and worse at that club. Tonight, he looked like a boy they found off the street; genuinely incompetent.
  14. Livramento was 2 v. 1 for that entire sequence of play The goal was remarkably simple and easy. The adrenaline made them a bit overzealous and disorganised in this end, tbh, but they did incredibly well to pull it back from 2-0. Bruno was a hero in the second half. The better team throughout the match, but undeserved, dramatic victories are the brand of the wretched institution that is Liverpool. It is a shame, but happy to see the boys still have fight. Personally, I am thoroughly unimpressed with this summer, but the club could easily have six points with better finishing. This issue needs to be addressed in the market, unless Osula will transform into that player.
  15. This boy is a raw prospect that has scored less than ten goals in his career and Newcastle bought him to come sit on the bench and only use in case of serious emergency. No idea how this benefits him or this club. Bizarre transfer and more poor planning.
  16. The team will be fine this season overall, but it's shameful how aimless this club has been since qualifying for the Champions League. It seems like there is no urgency and no plan.
  17. Gyokeres and Sesko are both good players, imo, but they have been put in situations of extreme pressure. They might fail simply due to circumstance. Sesko hasn't been anything more than "promising" in Bundesliga and now he has to lead the line for the most scrutinised team in England. I also did not understand the clamour for Viktor from "top" teams. He would be a great signing for an upper mid-table side, but I am not confident at all he will succeed at Arsenal with the role and expectation he will have.
  18. I do not think it will be particularly difficult to play Ekitike and Isak together, tbh. They are quite different players at this point and he is versatile. I do not really see Hugo as much of a pure striker at all. He reminds me a bit of Jackson at Chelsea when I've watched him; maybe a better, more refined version. A very mobile and skillful player that can and will score goals and is played as a striker because of his stature and athleticism. He does not really have a striker's instinct or lead the line well, imo. He would have to develop a good amount to be on the level of Isak. At this stage, I actually think he may be better suited to playing off another striker, especially in a more physical league. It is a big risk for the price frankly, but so was Isak.
  19. I would be watching the AFCON Final right now if not for this nonsense further crowding the schedule, so will never be happy with this taking place in the summer, but I agree, this would be more enjoyable if it were actually just an expanded version of the current CWC. A 32 team tournament with 12 European teams is just farcical.
  20. To be frank, I do not understand this aversion to seeing attractive women at halftime instead of some balding retired player spouting rubbish and adverts for Paddy Power. They need to start the match on time and limit the intrusive ads on the screen , though.
  21. Has there been any explanation as to why FIFA have chosen MetLife as the marquee venue for the World Cup and this tournament? It is one of the worst stadiums in the NFL and not even really in New York Even on television it looks terrible.
  22. With PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City having all finally gotten their hands on the trophy, there is only one major club sponsored by blood money from a Gulf state left to win one.
  23. PSG have not really played that well in this match, tbh. Inter have just been outclassed. They are not competitive and have not pushed their opponents at all.
  24. This is exactly the Inter that managed to lose Serie A to a relatively poor Napoli team. They have made this Final twice in the last three years while being poor in the league.
  25. I cannot imagine pulling this "not celebrating against former team" rubbish in the Champions League Final. It's easy to celebrate without being disrespectful.
