Why would Manchester City want Bellamy or Owen though. It makes no sense. They want to emulate the big four, correct? So why are they looking to sign players on their secnd to last legs. When you look at Chelsea's transfer strategy in the early years under Abramovich, it was genius compared to what The Citizens are going after. Chelsea didn't sign a whole bunch of huge names, but they certainly did not go after players who were nearing 30 and had the last few seasons ravaged by injury. They'll need to replace them in two or three years, and that's assuming they haven't fallen of the football map due to injury. Certainly have no potential high resale value either.

It is important to note that Chelsea are basically falling apart while Man U are in perfect form. The fact that United played the formation they did just showed how they were not scared of of a Chelsea team that is really pretty poor at the moment.

No way Guthrie is better than: Oba, Jonas, Beye, Bassong, Coloccini, N'Zogbia, or even Viduka (fit one obviously) in my opinion. He's a decent player. Don't think he is ready to be a starter in a team that is going places (He will grow into that). I think the player I listed above are good enough for that.

Mr C. Ronaldo? Bigger accomplishment what he's done in the last couple of seasons in the EPL (undisputedly a much higher quality league) I'd say. Larsson at Celtic? NB - Messi is awesome but lets not go overboard? I'd have to disagree, the spanish league is not far off the premiership at all. Some would argue it's better, not me though. And for me Messi is special in a way that Ronaldo isn't. Fair enough Ronaldo produces more, is more consistant, has the better physique etc but Messi does things that only the special ones can and he has whatever it was that Maradona had. Not sure what you would call it but Ronaldo doesn't have that. Larsson was fantastic but he's in the next tier of great players for me. I was simply drawing what I thought was a fairly obvious parallel of players seeming better when playing against lower quality opposition and often with lower quality team mates - I wasn't meaning in any way that Larsson is in the league of greats, far from it. If a team is set up to work off one man then that man will be a legend - Shearer at Blackburn, Le Tiss at Southhampton, Sheva at Milan. All played beyond themselves and when put in a regular formation without the whole team geared up for them alone they were no where near as good as they were before. Don't get me wrong, I loathe United, but for me, Christiano is miles ahead, he's pretty much a perfect footballer. What makes you think the Premiership is superior to La Liga in terms of quality of the opposition? It isn't. I find it funny how quickly people have decided that the Premiership is the best league in the world. The league has undoubtedly gotten better due to new injections of cash and the ability to attract new great foreign players, but that does not mean that suddenly the rest of the top leagues are rubbish. I've noticed the British press getting this wierd superiority complex recently. In fact regardless of the league, Messi's performance this week was against Atletico Madrid, one of the more expensive and talented teams in Europe, who happen to be in the knockout stages of the CL.

N'Zogbia: Lyon interested according to agent

It's a thin line between a midfielder that does everything and a midfielder that does nothing. -
It would be much more hilarious if the ball flies past van der Sar into net four times on Sunday. Now that would be a good laugh.

I don't want Liverpool and Manchester United to ever win anything ever again. I hate both of these clubs. I hate both of these managers. I hate Gerrard. I hate Ronaldo. Both clubs are vile. I only support Rafa in this because Sir Alex Ferguson needs to be taken down. Is a cancer that needs to be burned out.

Puygrenier is a great defender. Or, was for Nancy. Ya, very good player, much better than f***** Davenport. I remember it was considered a very big deal when Zenit signed him this summer, so I am surprised that he is heading back west this quickly

Rafa just expressing how the majority of opposition fans feel about Sir Alex Ferguson. But yeah, the press conference makes him seem mad. The lines about Fergie dawing up the fixtures and teams using zonal marking against United's staff were absolutely top class

Honestly, next year if we lose Given. Hardly think we're destined for relegation for goodness sake. Villa looked like they were destined to be a big club to face relegated only a few years ago. Football isn't static. Players change, managers change, etc. For all we know in five years, Newcastle could be preparing for their next Premier league fixture at Ibrox against Rangers or at the Vicente Calderon against Atletico fro our next Europe second divison fixture.

N'Zogbia: Lyon interested according to agent
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to TêteDeMaure's topic in Football
35p, a black and white stripey top and a couple of frog's legs and he's yours. Honestly though, if like Baggio says, he's available for around the £7million mark then i think it's well worth the gamble. As for player exchange, i doubt Redknapp would allow any players to leave aprt from maybe Gunter (good player), ghaly (good player but it might be better if he leaves) , boateng (s****), and maybe Bentley if you lot add some cash to the N'zogbia deal. Come to think of it, you might be able to get Dos santos of us, as it seems Redknapp dosen't rate him much. Can't believe what has become of Kevin Prince Boateng! Man ... KD do you really think he was given enough of an opportunity to settle and even show his stuff? I hardly remember him playing a game?! I remember seeing him play for Germany when he was younger, in a youth tourney, and he was an absolute dynamo. He was everywhere. Breaking up play and bombing forward to join attacks. Can't believe what has become of the guy. He really needs to get his act together though. The plan was that he was supposed to become one the best mids in the world, but if you look at what some of his age mates in centre midfield have already accomplished, he is far behind. Even someone like Guthrie is holding down a spot in a Premier League club. Kevin will be 22 in a few months and has barely sniffed first team action. And its the like of Jenas, Huddlestone, and O'Hara that are keeping him out. -
I know I've been supporting Smith further up the page, but he is not a DM. The main job of a player in that position is to keep the ball. The best DMs in the world rarely if ever stupidly lose the ball. The best DM in our squad is definitely Geremi or Guthrie. Smith is probaly still ahead of Butt though, just as a player at this point.

That doesn't even make sense. What the hell is going on?

Shay Given signs for Manchester City for £5.9m plus add-ons
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to a topic in Football
If bloody Manchester City, the richest f***** team on earth, buy one of our top players for eight million units of the rapidly deflating British pound, I'll not know what to do. What, Shay is worth less than Craig Gordan? f*** off. -
Nani is on N'zogbia's level. I can't think of what he consistently does well.

I'd rather have Bentley or Pvlychenko. Having said that, I'd rather have all three mentioned ahead of our strikers. EDIT: I meant Bent not Bentley. Thought we were talking strikers. Disagree with that post totally. I like Pavlyuchenko quite a bit, and think he will be a nice player in England, but I'd still have Oba and Owen over him. Bent is useless. Even Spurs supporters can acknowledge this. He score when it's on a platter, but 99% of the time he just falls on his arse when the ball comes near him.

Who has impressed you most so far this season?

What has Zola done to be sacked.

I predict Spurs will win based on the sole fact that Kingson is keeper for Wigan. You know how gomes was terrible at the beginning of this season?....Kingson is like that all the time.

With what? Brass buttons? Do you for a fact know how much money we've got at the moment, or how much we're likely to have after sales? I'm well aware that our net spend in the last two windows wasn't that much at all (despite being way over-paid for Milner), but I still think we'll spend a bit. We have to. We don't want to let any players go, and Kinnear and Ashley aren't stupid, so I hope if the likes of Given leave that any net spend issues aren't used against them. Well even putting aside the money we'll be spending, the recent prices for Muntari (£12.7m) and Diarra (£20m) and the quotes for Defoe (anything from £15m to £24m according to the media) suggest they'd want silly, silly money for Kranjcar. Muntari-Inter Milan....Diarra-Real Madrid. I think that is the reason for the outrageous prices that have been stuck on these players. I think the price of a player like Kranjcar depends heavily on whether or not the traditional big boys and Man City are interested.

GOAL: THE MOVIE BBC 1 2:40pm Today (Tuesday)/Best sports film ever?
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to a topic in Football
Antoher one I'd nominate is He Got Game. It's Spike Lee, so naturally it is overdone at times, but the film is overall very good.
