1. I think Sakho is wanted by all top clubs in Europe. In France, they regard him better than Bassong. Will be hard for us to get him here. Yeah, he'd have no reason to come here and PSG no reason to sell to us. He'll play in Paris a few more years before his inevitable move to one of the "super clubs".
2. It doesn't make any sense I don't think. So, I'm assuming it's nonsense. However, Mr. Kinnear is somewhat of a buffoon, so you never know.
3. I love how media types say that Allardyce had us in 11th when he left, as though this was some accomplishment. I don't know how they fail to recognize that he was taken us through the least difficult set of fixtures we had, and drawing or even losing. I honestly think we would have been higher last year at that point if we had just kept Roeder.
4. Conversely, the Italian sides have drawn Man U, Chelsea, and Arsenal while the Spanish sides have been set with Liverpool, Lyon, and Panathinaikos , and Porto. With all the class team that finished second in their group, this was always going to be a very difficult draw for most involved.
5. I wouldn't be comfortable saying that any of the English teams are certain to go through. Liverpoool is inferior talent wise to Madrid, so if Merengues can get their act together by February I think they would be favored. Inter is a match for any team in the world this year. Arsenal and Roma are both pretty s*** and inconsistent. Chelsea are better than Juventus, but they've definitely had their problems this year as well.
6. You never know with Real. Alot will probaly change between now and February in all honesty. My picks as of now: Sporting Lisbon v Bayern Munich Lyon v Barcelona Real Madrid v Liverpool Inter v Man Utd Arsenal v Roma Chelsea v Juventus Villarreal v Panathinaikos Atletico Madrid v Porto
7. That's the same thing that got me.
8. Ive seen snails with better movement than Viduka tbf Movement isn't about all about speed tbh. Viduka's excellent at receiving the ball from deep, laying it off, and getting into the box. The first time he touched the ball in the Boro game he was about 40 yards from goal. He's also excellent at getting infront of his defender at the near post. Admittedly, Owen is the master of good movement but Viduka is certainly second in that respect. Although Oba has improved, if he wasn't blessed with such pace then he probably wouldn't be a brilliant striker. That's a bit obvious isn't it. I mean I don't think the likes of Viduka, Crouch, Kanu, Zigic, etc, would be all that good if they were 5 foot 6. Viduka doesn't have good movement in my opinion anyway. Players like him don't really need to, as the ball sticks to them when they get it, unlike our more mobile strikers.
9. He'll struggle to get in the first team at Madrid. He will moan about this and then get sold to the likes of Espanyol or Getafe, thus starting the entire cycle again. Maybe he's trying to break Anelka's record.
10. The quotes sound fake to me anyway. Ashley may or may not be that informed on the inner workings of football, but he's not mentally challenged. These quotes: “Joe’s the man to do the job. He’s my hero. Is he better than Capello? Definitely. We are going to be in Europe by the end of the season!” Sound as though they were either make jokingly "off the record" or by a slightly retarded prepubescent. Ashley is a businessman and public figure, so he's not that much of an idiot when it comes to public relations.
11. Considering it is only UEFA Cup, those are some very good teams that Villa could eventually play against. I think CSKA might be first or second best of those four, but you'd probaly want to play them as they would be out of season.
12. How are Real Madrid a joke? Only the most successful club in the entire world.
13. Really? Meh. Anelka then. Anelka only cost 15 million pounds. That really isn't a very high price for a player of his calibre.
14. Then sold him on for this rediculous amount. It certainly fits into the new approach by the club. Eh? Titus Bramble Released ... £4.5m loss Craig Moore Released ... £0 Oguchi Onyewu Released ... £0 Olivier Bernard Released ... £0 Pavel Srnicek Released ... £0 Antoine Sibierski Released ... £200k loss Scott Parker £7,000,000 ... £1m profit Alan OBrien Released ... £0 Kieron Dyer £7,000,000 £1m profit Paul Huntington £250,000 ... £250k profit Albert Luque Undisclosed Fee ... ? Nolberto Solano Free ... £1.5m loss Stephen Carr Released ... £2m loss Peter Ramage Released ... £0 James Troisi Released ... £0 Lamine Diatta Released ... £0 David Rozehnal £2.9m ... £0 Belozoglu Emre £3.5m ... £0 Abdoulaye Faye £2.25m ... £0 James Milner £12m ... £7m profit So of all the player that have left the club we've made summat like £2m-ish. Sign them up with re-sale value, then sell them on for a profit. Much like what Spurs have done. That's what I feel the club are trying to do. I can only think of 4, maybe 5 clubs in the entire world whose players dont have a price. Having said that i think you might be right about the Spurs thing, the only thing is that i dont think we'd be a club looking to sell but would sell for the right deal. Which players did Spurs sell willingly? Robbie Keane for £20m to Liverpool? That was daylight robbery, I'll bet most Liverpool fans would rather have the money back. Berbatov refused to stay, he wasn't sold through choice or to make a profit. I don't see anything devious or miserly in those deals which is what you are implying, in fact Spurs have spent big on top players like Bentley and Modric which is hardly penny-pinching behaviour. Im not implying anything. Although i do think that Spurs model is to buy players who can develop to make a profit - which they can reinvest, sort of self sufficient method of getting good players. Reinvestemtn program. What do you think Spurs thinking was when they sold both their main strikers[/b - a guarantueed 50-60 goals a season? Surely you dont think they thought it would be an easy propostition to replace them both in one window? I think Spurs were thinking that both Keane and Berbatov wanted to go, and that they would receive 50 million pounds in return. To me they wanted to replace both, but they f***** around too long with the Berbatov transfer leaving them a few hours to et a striker.
15. So Owen is too expensive for Wigan... Easily one of the most unnecessary statements in the history of football.
16. I rate Diarra higher than Sissoko tbh. Sissoko's a bit of blunt instrument.
17. It's Real Madrid, 18 million is pretty much pocket change for them.
18. Terrible news. He's a really really crucial player for us. Oh well. We have five bloody strikers. So some people will have to prove their worth.
19. Mascherano isn't a physical monster, but he's a great tackler and tactically. I se we have different definitions of the role though. I don't think Carrick is a defensive midfielder and I don't think Man U play one. To me Carrick and Guthrie can definitely be great holding midfielders or the CM that sits further back in a 4-4-2. Guthrie definitely has the talent for that, yeah.
20. I don't really think Guthrie has the physicality to be a defensive midfielder. He's a player who can sit back, but he can't really tackle or get players off the ball.
21. What? It's not exactly racism when your completely s*** at your job.
22. Hey this isn't a Super Eagles vs. Black Stars thing now is it. Put that aside for now. Kingston is better than anything we have in centre midfield for sure. Apparently going for just £3 million too. what? This has nothing to do with that. If we are going after Ghanian midfielders I'd much rather we get Appiah for free (same age as Kingston), Anthony Annan, Ahmed Barusso, etc. Although, to be fair, I mostly see him play with Ghana on the right flank, which isn't his natural position I guess. Regardless, I'd still not like to sign someone who must be near 30 who hasn't ever played in a top league. His brother really is s*** though. You know, Richard Kingson of Wigan. He's terrible. The owner of his club called him a waste of space last year. I'm amazed he plays in Europe, never mind the Premier League. Kingston was 28 this year, is in good health and is being made available for a good fee. Kingston really is much better through the middle than out on the right. Appiah appears to be damaged as surely someone would have moved for him by now? All the others you mentioned I'm not sure what their status' are as far as transfers go. By the way at what ceremony exactly where you crowned leader of the Nigerian mags? Pray tell? I really do wonder about Appiah. He was a great player as recently as last year and now he is unwanted. Amazing the things that happen to the careers of footballers sometimes. I think Annan plays in Norway so he should be available for a reasonable fee. Barusso keeps getting loaned out from Roma because he really isn't a very good player, but he definitely has the physicality for the Premier League. He's a very scary man. Also, until a challenger arises to my throne, I stake my claim to be leader of the Nigerian Mags. Honestly, it's a bit of a joke as I've not met any other Nigerian Newcastle fans besides my father and I. Even most of my cousins generally follow a London team.
