  1. You can see Shearer's influence has rubbed off on Shola with that finish..
  2. SSN trying say our starting 11 lost 6-1!
  3. Joking aside. WTF is going on down there? Are the players giving Ashley a wake up call?
  4. Pity the comments are down. I'd just observed that at this rate we'd lose 30-0...
  5. He wants to go. We'll get decent money but he hardly takes much off the wage bill. Pity Spurs don't want Colo. Unfortunately, other teams will be looking at our younger players who aren't on big money as opposed to the likes of Colo, Duff, Barton etc who will not hold residual value and who are currently vastly overpaid. When the shit hits the fan our squad will be severely lacking of potential stars and we will be left with overrated, overpaid, underperforming players who we can't get rid of and younger players who aren't going to be good enough at the top level. We will bring in some decent Championship level players to make the numbers up. If we go up we will have a huge rebuidling job to stop up. If we get new owners they are going to have to great vision and be brave or they need to have shit loads of cash.
  6. The judge said it was a fair verdict. I'm pretty sure I could see his You'll Never Walk Alone socks peeking through as he joined in the singing outside the court room. The law on self defence is somewhat open to argument of a perceived threat and allowed reasonable action to stop that threat. For Gerrard to successfully convince the jury that he hadn't seen his mate standing next to him land a blow and for him to then almost immediately hit the bloke 3 times in self defence is understandly open to question (complete bollocks). He then has to be dragged away in self defence. If that same bloke had hit Gerrard when he came over with 5 or 6 mates to have a chat about what was his problem and he had pleaded self defence I wonder what the jury's verdict would have been?

    RIP sale thread.

I agree that we are almost at the point where Ashley reaffirms his commitment to the club, cleans the slate & urges us all to pull together. He'll have found no-one suitable to take over such a great club and for the good of the club he is staying. We'll reappoint Kinnear and sell our best 3 players buying third rate replacements in the wrong positions. We'll finish mid table with a terrible away record. The year after we'll be sold for 20 Million to Fat Fred......................................................you make the rest up. The point is that Ashley hasn't got a fucking clue on how to get out as he has no conception on what the true value of the club presently is. Until he does he will not sell & we will continue on this slow, painful demise.
  8. Darlo must be woeful. By all accounts the Mackems were rubbish and scored 4 (3 absolute gifts) and we are on 6 already.
  9. Ibra scored most goals in the Serie A last season! The reason people think Ibra can't score is that he can do so much more with the ball. He can score, some fantastic goals as well. He's just not the goal scorer that Eto'o is & imo that is more important to Barca.
  10. I really do not understand the Barca/ Inter deal. Barca need a goal scorer to finish off the chances they create; so they get rid of one of the best and replace him with someone who isn't great at finishing and at times looks plain uninterested & lazy. He is technically better but unless Barca are planning to pass the ball to the opposition goal line & then get down on knees to head the ball in I do not see any sense in the deal. Given the choice between the 2 players in an already great side I'd take Eto'o every time. The deal places Imbra's worth at nearly 50 million or so plus they get Hleb for a year.
  11. So this guy (and part of the Sunderland Official bid) is doing so on features based in Gateshead (somewhere in North Durham) which include The Hilton; overlooking the Tyne, The Baltic; overlooking the Tyne & The Millennium Bridge; spanning the Tyne. What's more he's simply paying tribute to the features of a rival bid; Newcastle/ Gateshead. Perhaps he should suggest a Sunderland/ Washington bid and could include the Nissan Factory, The Galleries, The Old Hall and Princess Anne Park (they could erect a fan's camp site there with a big screen, after all, It's A Knockout was once staged there). If he pushed it he could also try including Penshaw Monument - oh hang on, the official bid has already done that.

    RIP sale thread.

28 Dec 2008. Ashley said in a statement on the club's official website: 'I am happy to end the uncertainty the fans may have had about the future direction of Newcastle United. 'I know just how important that is to you. 'I have withdrawn Newcastle United from the market, and for me 2009 will be the year in which we drive the club forward together. 'Even when I haven't been at games I have remained a keen supporter, kicking and heading every ball and cheering the team on TV and being first to congratulate (manager) Joe (Kinnear) whenever there's a good result.' Ashley revealed the club had failed to find a suitable buyer. He added: 'When I took the decision to put the club up for sale in September I made a point of saying two things were very important. 'Firstly any potential buyer would have to show they had the best interests of Newcastle United at heart and had both the commitment and finance to be worthy custodians of such a fine football club before I would even consider doing a deal. 'And secondly, I gave you my word that as long as I remain owner, this club would continue to be run responsibly at all levels. I hope you will accept that I have stood by that pledge.'

    RIP sale thread.

When all of this is over it would be nice to think that Ashley will lose all of his money on diseased ridden old whores, the roulette tables/ spread betting on shares & that he gets the shit beaten out of him in some darkened alley. It would be great if the NOTW could catch him grubby, beaten up & with his knob falling off with ghonerrea.

    Joey Barton

Nah, I reckon Al will be mightily pissed off that he's not only been allowed to train with the 1st team but start the first friendly. What happened on the pitch at lpool we know, we only know snippets of what happened in the dressing roon afterwards. If Al becomes manager Hughton will leave, if he were Al's man he wouldn't have played Barton today.

    Memorabilia

Not all the stuff I posted has high significance for the actual game, some are more for the story they tell. The red stub is from Sunderland's 3 Div match at York City. I used to live in Washington & my best mate is a Mackem. Me, him & 2 others went to the game and stayed overnight. I can honestly say that it was a shite match (hazy memory) but the journey, the pre match drink, the Morissey lookalike, the drink, the curry & the land lady afterwards was the stuff of legend. What's your stories?

It was also where I saw his first game & pretty close to where my ST is now. Great view. During my teens I spent time standing in every section of the Gallowgate.

    Memorabilia

I have some Ashes match programmes somewhere (the Botham Headingley Test) and have also thrown away a stack of Endsley Carr Mile/ GB programmes signed by some fantastic athletes in the days when Gateshead was a big meeting (Ed Moses, John Walker, Big Bren, Cram and others). No idea why I'd thrown them away! Must have been a kid...

    Memorabilia

As I'm bored with all this non news over the sale of the club I thought I'd get my anorak out. What's your favourite Toon/ Sport memorabilia & what stories do they tell? I haven't got much: a few signed shirts, programmes (pillock that I am I have lost my Ujpest Doza one), ticket stubs and the like. Here are a few ticket stubs to be getting on with. There is definite rogue one in there but I had a great weekend with my unwashed mates. http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm253/nufcstu/IMG_0004.jpg
  19. Shearer expects to be named manager; he doesn't however know when or know who the new owners will be. At least that was the position at the beginning of last week. No news really - but that was from the horses mouth.
  20. This has been mentioned several times but, Owen didn't perform at all well last season & knew he was going to leave. He also missed the chances that would have kept us up. The chances against Man C and Everton easily spring to mind, there were also others. He has got himself a right result and a little humility over what he did here would have been nice. He is trying to absolve himself of any blame & by bragging about how many games he was involved in last season simply adds to the weight of argument over poor performances.

    Supermac

Agree he gets on my tits on the legends and he's been foolish in his personal/ private life but, and a big but, he was fucking magnificent in his pomp; he was strong as an ox, as fast as an olympic sprinter (fact), he was brave, had an awesome shoot and power in his headers. The only comparable centre forward of the last 35 years was Sir Les. On top of that he then made Fulham into a fantastic footballing team. He came up here with Houghton, Lewington & Davies & they murdered us in the old 2nd division (shown on motd) 3 or 4 - 1. What the fuck went wrong I don't know; they were the best team in that league by a mile.
  22. 74-75 for me. We looked like Brazil; I loved the socks and blue shorts. If that strip could be updated it would be business. The licorice all sorts home socks were also brilliant.

    NEWCASTLE UNITED

I saw us lose 4-1 at home to the Mackems with a twat called Rowell scoring a hat trick for them. Certainly felt like a defeat, But I agree with the sentiment
