  1. Will be 30 come october, depends on who else we sign I suppose. He is a good player. Had a lot to do with Wigan's good season a couple of years back. But he left Wigan because he is a Londoner and didn't like the north. We're well north of Wigan like.
  2. We haven't got a good enough midfield to play Owen and Martins up front together in a 4-4-2 imo. We have enough trouble getting any sort of attack going. If you take away the option of a striker who can hold the ball up or win it in the air you are restricting the options we have even further. Opposing sides can close out our midfield leaving no option but to go long - and with two short strikers we are stuffed.
  3. Anyone who has been a fan long enough to have lived through the first Keegan era has got a soft spot a mile wide for the man. I shed a tear when I saw him pitch up at SJP again. But sorry to say this I think he was appointed for the wrong reasons this time around. IMO the club missed an opportunity to try and find our own Wenger. The timing of the sacking of Allardyce didn't help. I don't actually want a manager who can walk away with his head held high if he fails tbh. I want someone who is intelligent, understands modern football and is young enough to still be here in 10 years time. Does such a man exist? Dunno but how far did Ashley search? Few Arsenal fans had heard of Wenger when he was appointed. All I know is that I think the choices of Redknapp then Keegan show a lack of long term vision. For all that how can any true fan not get behind Keegan though ffs? And forget the Arsenal games - his new era starts tomorrow and he should be judged from here on in.
  4. I could have sworn Barton was a DM? Demented Maniac - Aye he is.
  5. I think the fact that we were sniffing round another central defender (Woodgate) suggests that we were prepared to let Rozenhal go before that interview hit the wire. Roz clearly wasn't happy being a squad player and with Beye and Faye coming back he would have got very few starts unless there was an injury epidemic.
  6. Kevin Keegan: "They want someone on the board who understands football, and Dennis knows it very well. I think it will work very well. He reports to me - the chain is established." Official Website: "Dennis will assist the Board on football related matters, including the development of the Club's Academy and player recruitment. He will report to the Chairman." Didn't take long for a bit of conflict did it.
  7. We'll get no more points from Wigan this season.

  9. When I saw him on SSN in his tracksuit I wondered if he was bothered at all. Looked tired. However, he must have done some pretty good convincing to Ashley and Mort to be given the job iyam. Or it might have been Ashley and Mort who did the convincing. The main motivation behind this may be marketing tickets and shirts rather than growing a football club. But the idea may be for Keegan to be the figurehead/messiah and those under him to be the real force. My own opinion is that Keegan is a highly strung individual who can't handle intense pressure and in terms of football management he is mentally shot. With strong people under him we can wing it and it will be interesting to see who turn up as his assistants.
  10. as he says, souness would say that. But I expect you know best Leazes, from day one of the Luque signing I told people that Souness wanted Boa Morte, and Freddie decided he was over-priced. HE told Souness to buy Luque. That comes from a source NOT involved in NUFC, who has day to day dealings with Fulham. He has no reason whatsoever to lie. This isn't me making the claim now Souness has come out with it, it's on toonchat, or toontastic, and has been from the start. I don't trust Souness with 99% of what he says, but he's absolutely spot on about this situation. Overpriced as in the club didn't have the money at the time / his terms and the fee were too high, or overpriced as in Shepherd didn't rate him personally ? There is a massive difference between those 2 scenarios. I've said it before and I'll say it again. No manager worth his salt is a yes man, they would resign or force a sacking if they want their money, Souness is many things but he's no yes man. And he certainly didn't force a sacking. Quite simply, the idiot is in a complete state of denial about the mess he made of the job and always will be. That comment he made about only being allowed money to tart up the team must be the most stupid ever and nobody in the studio at the time was either bothered enough or knowledgeable enough to challenge him about it. We offered £3.3m. Fulham wanted £5.5m. We pulled out of the deal because Fred had been offered Luque and didn't want to pay £5.5m for Boa Morte. The club clearly had the money, and it never got to the stage of agreeing terms. Regarding Luque, according to Souness he was told he would cost 2m. We paid 9.5m for him. Boumsong was signed by Rangers on a free transfer and was valued at the time iirc in the region of 2m. We paid 8m. Boumsong's transfer is under investigation by the police. Luque's transfer isn't. You may see a pattern here. I couldn't possibly comment. Thought Luque's transfer was flagged because there were "unanswered questions" by the agent.
  11. I'll wager that the News of the World sting in Marbella won't get much coverage.

    Mark Hughes

All of that sounds exactly what we need, I hope Ashley and Mort aren't swayed by nostalgia (Keegan/Shearer) make the right choice, and bring in Hughes sounds great. but you could write a canny piece about souness an'arl or anyone else for that matter Can you imagine the reaction if that happened here. Hughes oot tbh.
  13. But Alan Oliver said at a live talk in with Beardo and Lee Clark - and I quote: "We don't want a foreigner running our club man" so it has to be a non starter
  14. I dare say every one of that lot can live without us tbh.
  15. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this the same mistake the previous board made when sacking SBR and we ended up with Souness? Yes - exactly that.
  16. So it's all been a betting scam
  17. Unless it's David O'Leary.
  18. Pompey are playing at the Vilage of the Damned on Sunday tbh.
  19. 4 goals in the last 3 years - thats more than 1 a year so why not?
  20. Wouldn't be surprised if Emre is gone this window. Watched him deliver the corner that won the game against B'rum and he reacted with all the excitement of a man who'd just got a parking ticket.

Anal Oliver The Chronicle 3rd January 2008: "I don’t know which one of Allardyce’s scouting team decided Enrique was worth £6m, but it’s a fair bet Villarreal are laughing all the way to the bank." Now there's a man with an agenda.
  22. None of us knows what discussions took place between Allardyce and the Mort/Ashley team in the early days. It did seem that, due to the takeover, some valuable time was lost in the window and targets were missed. It could be that the Ashley side reckon that Sam got a less than fair crack at the market and will stick with him. Ashley has a reputation for sticking with people through adversity (his Finance Director at Sports Direct for one). I'm no ITK - its just a thought,
