Brought his own angle of it with him to add to the already strong ethic we had. Given that he's a coach I'd love to know what he's coaching because it isn't: defending passing pressing attacking wide play Yup. The early days, where there was a definitive shift in approach, has clearly been slung by the wayside in exchange for hit and hope. Aye, I could see the plan in the first 2/3 games. Keep shape, keep the ball, probe and work it back if needs be. Now it's as baseless as anything Pardew and Carver served up. I could almost tolerate losing every f***ing week if I could see that it was part of a bigger picture (like when KK came back). But with this s***, this s*** is absolutely unreal. It's staggering we get worse and worse when you think there is no lower we can plummet. I'd advocate him leaving but given how inept his board colleagues are I'm not even sure it'd be worth it. Might as well just go down with him at the helm, get it over and done with. Even 5 games ago, you could see some form of gameplan, tbh, a short termer to see us through at the very least. It's been an amazing capitulation, once again, and it's hard to say what the fuck's gone wrong. All desire, (minimal) attacking cohesion and teamwork they had seemed to disappear after Stoke/the international break. It's staggering how quickly everything turns to shit, we won a game 2 matches ago and it's back the the crisis point of mid-September.

You're going to get shit but I don't disagree. Some'll say he's working with what he's got, he just seems complicit in it all to me.
-
He's been so bad since he came back, looks like he has to think about which leg to put forward next.

It's weird. Things felt somewhat more positive a few weeks ago and now we're here
-
Me neither. Best bet, if he did warn some of them that it was their last chance, would be to make wholesale changes and set the team up to be more solid defensively and grind it out until Jan. Obviously, that would require us to buy good players in the next window for it to work.

Crystal Palace 5-1 Newcastle United - 28/11/15 (post-match from p. 26)

what THE f*** do you know about Carr's remit vs who we have signed? It's about fair, tbh. The managers get slagged for being cowards that work for Ashley under ridiculous restraints, why isn't Carr? Surely any scout worth his salt wouldn't stand for having to be the bloke constantly shopping in the bargain bin (until very recently). fat sam has the mackems above us now, do they have a better team and squad? They appear to have defenders that are physically capable, midfielders that can run and some genuine wide players. I'd say they're more balanced than we are. -

What the hell difference is that going to make. Everything comes back to Ashley. Why do you go out of your way to come across thick all the time? Ronaldo man Still think this squad is good enough for top half, UB? I said midtable, and yes, I still stand by that. The higher ups and the manager (again) are much bigger problems. Are you taking the p*ss at this point, or what? No centre mids, no wingers, unproven strikers and defenders that can't be left to their own man. -

3 at the back might be the answer for us until Jan, tbh, need to stop conceding goals and being so easy to get through. He's tried about 4 different formations and the only one we've looked better going forward in looks to have been totally sussed. Probably time to just shut up shop and grind some shit out for the next few weeks. -

Errr. OK. -
I don't think he'll be playing again.
-
He'll only walk if the board don't meet his apparent demands in January. He's got the (easy) excuse of saying this lot are too far gone and we need more.

We played that in the second half against Leicester and were torn apart. The issues are far deeper than formations. -
He'll not go. He'll be given new players in January and they'll see how he does from there. Personally, I don't think he's the biggest problem, the first team, squad, owner, scout and 'Chief Exec' are all bigger issues, but he's not the right bloke for this job either.

Not really, but you're wrong. Pardew's got a better squad. There's credible amounts of leadership, pace, goals and intelligence in Palace's side. Our 'team' is an embarrassment from top to bottom. -

Christ, this lot are a joke. -
There were clear signs of progress a few weeks ago, IMO. Obviously the last 2 games have been rubbish but we were looking a somewhat competent team that was finding some balance and form going forward for 4/5 matches.

Pardew has changed everything at this club. Before he came a manager was expected to make an impact regardless of his backing in the market, or otherwise. Since Pardew managers apparently have a free pass because the squad isn't great. He's shown absolutely f***ing nothing in 6 months in the job, nothing. And I said this about Pardew tbf. And for all the s*** players in the squad he still has Sissoko, Mitrovic, Perez, Wijnaldum, Janmaat, Mbemba and arguably a couple more who aren't utter garbage. He's coaxed one performance out of them the entire season, one, and we were even the worst team for most of that game. You do realise Keegan has just said this, don't you? Yes I saw that, so f***? It's proof of what I'm saying, Keegan coached improvement he didn't have to buy it from the off. The squad is poor but it's simply not 2 wins from 13 poor like. The manager is s*** and that shows. I don't know the exact figures, but when he came to start with he survived by the skin of his teeth (which he recognises in the statement) and his second time took a while for his first win. As good as the bloke is, he's not a magician Was 8-10 games before we won 2nd time iirc but you could see signs of improvement. First time the club had no money to buy their way out so he did on the training pitch. This is the point I'm making. But that's no different. We've seen signs of improvement this time, then its disappeared. As for his first time (and I should be able to remember as I was going then), I'm pretty sure we finished 5 bottom and believe me there wasn't a massive improvement in performances as Keegan recognises. I've seen almost nothing personally. And regardless of what Keegan said, just like Pardew used to cry about, McClaren is managing a squad of international players. A better manager, like Keegan, gets more out of this squad. That's the start and end of it imo. Most PL sides have internationals, it means nowt, it's not like any of our lot are particularly prominent in good international sides anyway. Simple fact is, this is about the 15th best squad in the league sitting in 17th, a genuinely world class manager/miracle worker would have them in 12th at best.
-
If, by midtable, you mean 10th/11th, I think you're grossly underestimating the deficiencies of the squad. We simply don't have a very good team.

And where were Derby this time last year? What's your point? I think I've already said they were top or thereabouts on this very page. What was your point? The bloke is doing exactly the same as what our current manager was doing, this time last year, but with more funds. Just seems a weird stick to beat him with, if that's what you were going for. Well they've both taken over clubs that ended the season poorly and both been given decent investment and we're rooted at the bottom of the league. For a start. Granted we were in worse shape, much worse, but my point was made later that we could have gone for a young manager full of potential and went for McClaren. I'd rather have taken a chance on Clement basically, and there's now a chance they'll be swapping divisions I couldn't think of a worse job for a bloke with no management experience or any managerial reputation to start with. This lot need a great man manager, more than anything else, and they tend to come with experience. Derby built a great core, like. They suffered from injuries, so I heard, and just needed to get some back and add a bit extra to push on. fair enough if you think like that, but conversely shouldn't a manager with mcclaren's experience have managed to make some discernible improvements by now? i mean yeah our squad is s*** but even pardew managed to wring some results out of them from time to time McClaren isn't the right bloke for this particular job either, like. But I think he's not got the results because he's not tried to be negative. Pardew only ever got results when he realised he couldn't get us playing properly so just went defend and counter. McClaren, to me, has seemed to try and not be like that, we keep more possession and try to build play more because he has an idea for the future. Do I think he'd be wise to disband that? Yeah, but I don't blame him for not.
