Even Rafa signing a new contract with NUFC doesn't really help us other than near enough guaranteeing continued Premier League status. Ashley is still in charge and will still continue to shaft us, and Rafa, left right and centre.

Your train of thought makes total sense to all of us. I'll never understand why he wouldn't want to increase the value of his investment. However, 11 years of his ownership has proved that he is never going to think along those lines and wanting to have a submissive lickspittle in charge, rather than someone like Rafa who is going to challenge him, will always be his greater priority.

I suppose it is expecting a bit much to expect that the penny would finally drop with Ashley that backing Rafa will increase the value of the club as an asset. Almiron already looks like he could at least double in value, the three central defenders alone will be worth a hell of a lot more than we paid for them. I mean we know he is greedy, but is he really that thick as well? When are people going to learn ? Ashley is never changing, man. He isn't thick. He just doesn't give a fuck about the football club.

Yeah, very difficult for Ashley to provide evidence that he won’t screw Rafa over and he’s forced into agreeing deals before the end of the season to get Rafa to sign. It also possible that the rumours of a deal to sell the club being close is true. I still can’t see us paying that much for him. I think it will very much be like the Almirón deal where the selling club wants the €60m fee but we try and get it down as much as possible, and possibly agree a €50m deal. Also, this could be Brexit related. We are due to leave the EU next month with no trade deal in sight. €60m now maybe a lot less cheaper than €60m in June/July. What rumours? The sale of the club has been going on for so long, I think Stiffler has managed to convince himself (and no one else) that he knows all the inside info and is ITK. He really needs to stop it.

I didn't at the time because it was pure euphoria and relief, but now, when I watch David Kelly's goal against Portsmouth, I could easily cry.
