Not a single defender on the bench. Really wish we had more cover in that department. Still, a strong line up. Expecting a win here.

The lack of cover at CB is the bigger problem, imo. Doesn't get as much attention as it should, but if either Saylor or Colo get injured, everyone will be cursing Ashley again.

I was thinking we should start him on the bench, but the above posts are correct about why he should start. Fantastic news that he's coming back. He should make a big difference.

I think the team we have now is capable of keeping us in mid table and a lot of them are on long term contracts. If buying players cheap and selling them in a couple seasons means that Ashley can make his money back and leave, I'm not so concerned about it, so long as we're staying in the premier league. But on the whole, I'm not as displeased with this summer's business as some others on here. If we had exactly the same players come in but paid more in transfer fees, I think a lot of supporters would think we did good business. The only reason people don't consider Ba as a replacement for Carroll is that he came for free. He had about the same number of decent games in the Premier League as Carroll, after all. Had we spent £10 million to bring him here, would we think Ashley was great for reinvesting the money?

Doesn't seem that Pardew is too high on Williamson, so wouldn't be surprised to see a new center back come in today. Lots of talk about a new striker and LB, but we need cover at CB.

We needed a good LB and we got one. It's almost unimaginable. It should have been three games ago, but we got seven points, so I'll file it under no harm, no foul. Now let's get a striker and possibly another central defender.

I imagine this is what Pardew is thinking: "Hmmm, no wedding ring. It's all good, I'll just shag his mom."

Any word on if he's injured?

Or if Ben Arfa was fit. We've got the core of a decent team. We need Ben Arfa and Gosling to stay fit, and of course need a couple more players in.
