This seems like a good move. If he ends up not working out, we're really no worse off than we were. If he can recapture his form, then we've done a great piece of business. But mostly I'm just happy that we've made a signing.

We have a great legal option in Canada through Rogers Sportsnet. I pay $15/month (which I think is something like £7) and I can watch every game that's being played live, regardless of whether it's on television. I'm not sure if it will work in England, but there are often ways around these things. I've never missed a Newcastle game this season. Watched them all live. If you go to sportsnet.ca and click on the "Soccer" tab, there should be a link to it.

I'm patiently waiting for Montreal to debut next season, but hopefully I'll get out to a TFC game this year. I don't expect them to make the playoffs. It will be a long season for their fans, I think.

A rare good move from the club as of late. Glad to seem him back.
-
If having him in means that Barton can move back to central midfield and that means there's one more player ahead of Alan Smith in that position, then let's sign him up.

Keane or Santa Cruz are realistic. Apparently Macheda is going to go out on loan. He'd be decent.

I don't know if I could handle everyone walking around my home town in Newcastle shirts with Beckham on the back. It would be bound to happen.

Regardless of the next two games, if we make some key signings we'll be fine. If we don't, we're in trouble.

Yes please.

To be honest, a Qatari "boycoutt" is far more likely to happen.

I got the tiniest bit of satisfaction today when I canceled my NUFC TV account. They ask you why you are canceling, and one of the options is "Other" with a blank text field. So I typed in "Mike Ashley." Made me feel marginally better about the whole situation. Sigh.

We can be sure of signing Keane from Spurs if Jol comes on as our manager. But I'll believe this when I see it. Even though it seems like too much of a coincidence, I don't think we'll actually end up with a decent manager.
-
It doesn't matter whether our next manager gets support from fans, the players, or anyone. Ashley will continue to do whatever he wants regardless. Not welcoming Pardew (or any other manager) is a pointless exercise. It's not going to make Ashley spend in the transfer market or stop making stupid decisions. It will only make things harder for the manager and the players.

Next job open in the Championship, which may be one of the relegated clubs next season.
-
Mike Ashley has never given any indication that he has a plan for this club. No offense, but this is wishful thinking bordering on delusion.
-
I can't think of another club whose owner treats managers with such contempt as Mike Ashley. It's disgraceful.
-
I can't say enough good things about Chris Hughton. I'm gutted by this decision, even if it was painfully obvious for the past few weeks that it was going to happen. I know he won't have troubles finding another job and I hope he excels wherever he goes.

The only reason anyone would come here is for the sweet severance payment they're liable to receive when they're sacked in three months.

I was going to buy that kit, but it's CA$130 for the long sleeve shirt from their official store. Highway robbery that is.

Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition

Same here. I was hoping for the U.S. to get it so I can travel down there. Looks like Brazil is my best bet for the next few. -
Tiote and Ben Arfa were great signings. Perch and Best were shockingly bad. I think the jury is out on Hughton's ability to sign good players.

I wouldn't bet on that tbh. Even if we do plan to sell him, get him in there and hope that he does well. Will get us more for him...which Ashley will then not reinvest in the club. But still...
