If I were being optimistic I would say we seem able to defend well even when playing like s---. With all the possession Fulham had form the first while we didn't give them a lot of chances.

Good point about the full backs. We've often had trouble with our defenders getting the ball out over the past few seasons. I think you're spot on that they've been instructed to just dump the ball out for the reasons you stated. It doesn't bother me so much, so long as it's working and we're conceding less goals.

He wasn't like that the first half of the Championship season though. I remember him having the laziest debut in the Europa League too. Barely ran at all. Yeah, I don't disagree with what either of you are saying.

Carroll, as I recall, was one of the only players who had a good work rate towards the end of our relegation season. He worked his butt off and had some good performances.

Marveaux having a good game would calm the Barton thing down. Let's hope.

I'm worried that our clean sheet against Arsenal has Ashley & co. thinking we could go with Raylor and Ferguson at LB this season and get by. Ashley has demonstrated that he's content to simply stay in the EPL with the minimum investment and if he feels Raylor can do the job enough to stave off relegation, I'd not put it past him to not bring in a LB. Scary to think.

I'm curious if any team has actually attempted to sign "England's best midfielder" on a free.

I don't blame him for going and I wish him the best because he was a good player for us. But, it bothers me that he complained about the lack of ambition at our club, when he wasn't exactly a world beater when we signed him. He was given the time to develop at our club after being a player involved in our relegation season. He can say what he wants about the quality of players we have now, but many of them are more experienced than he was when we signed him.

I can't wait for the season to kick off. Hopefully we get some good results to shake off all the negativity from the pre-season drama. I can't see why we can't have a good season and I'm looking forward to seeing our new players for the first time.
