  1. We really need a win tomorrow! With today's results certainly not in our favour we need to cement our intent to win this damn league! It will be a tough game, but hopefully our players will show the grit and determination they have done thus far this season!
  2. The lad is spot on - let's hope we get a response from Hughton by not putting Butt in the starting 11 when fit!
  3. Report to the Goof Troop And we'll always stick together We're the Goof Troop Best of friends forever What a tune!
  4. Spot on. With that, having Jonas and Loven coming in would allow Ranger or Carroll to play there and hold the play up. Sorted. I see your point, considering after the last performance Ranger put in. Also imo Ranger is better at holding the ball up than certainly Ameobi. However, what you need consider is experience and other parts of their game. For me Ameobi gets the nod ahead of Ranger because he has started great off the blocks in the championship and although there is all possibility that Ranger can notch a goal or 2 and really come into his own on a weekly basis, for me it will take time. But as this question was asked now and considering I have only watched Ranger in 1 full (almost 90 min) game, i would have to put Shola in as a starter.
  5. True. Or you can dominate the league and make people try to adapt to playing against you. I think this is more likely the case! If we are good enough, which we have proven so far... then teams will be looking to trying and counter our working formation and tactics. Why would we alter our style and tactics if our players are better than the opponents? If it was that simple to alter your tactics and formations against the better teams in order to beat them, then the hulls and birminghams would be really laying into the uniteds or chelseas week in week out!
  6. -----------------------------Harper-------------------------------- Simpson-------------Taylor-----------Coloccini------------Enrique -------------------------------Smith------------------------------- ------------------Barton------------------Guthrie------------------ Jonas--------------------------------------------------Lovenkrands ------------------------------Ameobi-------------------------------- That's our best team in my opinion - 4-5-1 in defense and 4-3-3 in attack. It gives us plenty of natural width, attacking flow and strength in defense with Smith being the anchor. Ameobi has proven himself (thus far) as a very good championship player, but if that fails we have other strikers more than capable of doing that job too!
  7. What an absolute crock of s***. Cheers... just my 2 cents.
  8. Have you just popped your head into the thread and replied with your ideal team, without knowing about injuries (Jonas and Ameobi)? I know we are short of numbers but I think we should try to fill that bench... don't you?
  9. If nobody matches Ashleys valuation he is certainly more than content holding on to his investment. He is a businessman after all and you must take risk to gain! We are his risk and have been since we were relegated. I believe that he thought initially he was buying a cash cow club and even though there was debt it could be managed and with simple logic problems would be solved! Ashley is a gambler! He is now at the blackjack table and he has a handful of chips after starting with piles of them... what does he do? A) Leave the table and accept his losses - sell club before the next transfer window, recoup some of the monies spent plus those gained through recent activities (namely selling big name players) and leave the club with new owners and new hope! B) Call the banker and pay for more chips hoping that with some wise bets he will eventually cover his losses and gain in the end - Invest in some more players in the January transfer window, that would ensure promotion at the first time of asking! Therefore, the value of the club has just doubled (at least!)! C) Stay at the table with the handful of chips and just let them wittle down - Ashley using no common sense at all fails to invest his monies and keeps stalling selling the club because no-one will meet his stubborn valuation of the club! The club would then suffer with injuries/suspensions, failing to utilise the loan system and becoming a mid-championship side for the unforeseeable future! Those are the options the man has and I don't think anyone would be able to figure out what is going on in that mans head or indeed what his intent is! I find it hard to believe he will go with option A - using the excuse that the right owners for the club haven't arrived yet, with our future in mind! Worse case senario is obviously option C. But can the man be so stupid and heartless?! I used to think what has happened in the last 2 years was just bad luck... but now, with 4 months of limbo I have lost all faith that the man is going to do the right thing for the club! (Yes, I have been very patient!)
  10. If Barton is fit he MUST play! Had a hit and miss game against Leicester, but that was his first game back after injury. McLoven mentioned that it will take a few games for him to get up to match fitness, so perhaps he will be on the bench and one of the loan signings will move into the starting 11. I won't name possible loan signings in my possible 11 because there's never a sure thing when it comes to Newcastle, so why bother. When or IF they sign, then I may amend by team!
  11. I think it will certainly be our biggest test so far... only because we are playing away from home! I agree that if we win this game it will certainly help us gain even more confidence and continue to get a good lead on the other teams behind us. I would hope Hughton goes for something like this: --------------------------Harper--------------------------- Simo----------Taylor--------------Colo--------------Jose --------------------------Smith---------------------------- ------------Barton-------------------Guthrie-------------- --------------------------Nolan---------------------------- -----------------------------------McLoven---------------- ------------------------Ranger----------------------------- It has been mentioned before that we have no natural width with Jonas out and no real RW (apart from Raylor) - and he is too inconsistent. We need the experience of Smith and Nolan and creativity of Guthrie and Barton in midfield to create something for McLoven and Ranger to work with. I know that Carroll is back and will likely get the nod ahead of Ranger but I think the lad deserves his chance in the team, maybe bring Carroll on as an impact sub with 20 minutes to go. Playing McLoven behind Ranger (Target man) would be ideal as he can use his pace and experience to get on the end of some good balls either from Ranger or creative midfielders. We are playing away, so there is a chance Hughton will be more conservative in his selection, but this imo is our most attacking team available. With the experienced back four (no doubt in that selection) hopefully dealing with the Cardiff attack.
  12. Quailman

    Marlon Harewood

We can have 8 loans in total can't we? Surely we would cover those other positions with the remaining slots?!
  13. Quailman

    Marlon Harewood

I'd like us to have a look at other options... but obviously if he is the only one with the experience and potential in this league then why not get him? I mean it will only be for 3 months if he isn't doing the job for us! Hopefully Ranger won't just slip down the pecking order with another striker signing!
  14. Powerful striker would certainly throw his weight around in the Championship and do a job. My mates whom are mostly Villa supporters don't really rate him at all though! "Feed the Hare and he will score" is the most notable chant, but that is closely followed by... "erm, actually he is shit!"
  15. From the Beeb: 1321: Speculation that Jermaine Beckford has been spotted at 27 grounds in England today appear wide of the mark. We reckon he's unlikely to go anywhere today, unless one of the Premier League's early strugglers panics big time and decides to spend about £4m on a guy out of contract next summer. Unlikely. -------------------------------------------------------------------- That's a bit racist isn't it!
  16. 1 out and 4 in! +3 Butt Out (Please God!) and 2 Spurs loans + Beckford and a Centre Half! (Buys) Hopefully they'll be no-one sleeping at St James' Park tonight! I too don't think Colo will be leaving! Away with Argentina and I honestly believe that even though Ashley has made many many and I can't understate this enough, many mistakes with the club so far, tomorrow he will try and do something redeeming! I would find it extremely humerous and wishful ofcourse if the US consortium buy us tonight and then spend a good amount of money on the last day to become instant successes! Obviously this is highly unlikely especially with the failures on past deadline days.... but you never know! (Certainly not with us!) Edit: Forgot about Lovenkrands! +4
  17. There is clearly some negative comments about Bartons performance, but you need to bare in mind the fact he has just come back from injury and it was evident with quite a few misled passes. He was looking for some inventive passes at times and with that came the obvious risk of interceptions, but at least he showed some desire for creativity! He will sharpen up with games under his belt and more and more of those passes will pull off, creating hopefully more than a few goal scoring opportunites! Notice all the others faith in his ability - they see it on the training ground day in day out and they were looking to give him a lot of the ball! Certainly it seems that there is more to come from the lad!
  18. We are the big draw! Any TV company with any common sense will continue to put us on every other week! Hopefully we continue to make our chances count! Cardiff are going to be a tough test with the obvious threat coming from Chopra, but depending on tomorrows hopeful flutter in the transfer/loan market and with 13 days until our next match and a chance for the new (yes I know) lads to settle in, we can really cement ourselves at the top of the league and start moving away from the other pace setters! I reserve judgement on the score and team until 5pm tomorrow!
  19. I'd go with this and I think the only key player we are actually missing is Jonas! Give Ranger a chance to prove himself. With a few full games under his belt it will build his confidence and hopefully he will become the player most of us hope he will become!
  20. No fucking way should we sell Carroll and I can't see him wanting to leave either! Fuck off West Ham!
  21. Are you Ameobi in disguise?! As long as you aren't in charge I don't mind! --------------Krul R.Taylor--Taylor---Kadar---Enrique Lualua---Barton-----Smith----Duff --------Carroll------Ranger--------
  22. I would certainly be fuming! I'm surrounded by Villa fans day in day out and the rumours of O'Dreary (as they call him) coming to manage Newcastle has just added to the insults! We will be an even bigger joke!
