I would have thought a LOT less than that! What is the world transfer record now (at this date, while we are buying Almiron) and remember that a few years earlier it was £15 Million for Alan Shearer.

So, we have finally "broken our transfer record" ! At the time we bought Michael Owen, had Almiron been around then, how much would he have been worth in the transfer market, I wonder?

It is nothing but a (very) HUMBLE start . . a small beginning. Will he be any good in the Premier league? To be fair, it seems unlikely, as a "proper club" (not the "Ashley little joke club formerly known as NUFC") would have bought him (outbid us) if he was any good at all. I think most of us realise this. So, today is Tuesday, the Transfer Window closes on Thursday . . . . a "bit late" for this very humble (speculative) START !!!!!!!!!!!!!

He could do whatever he wants and there will still be 50,000 sat in silence rather booing Perez and Benitez instead of giving the parasite any grief. He has it all exactly where he wants it. He's ground the energy and expectation levels into the ground over 11 years. Done a cracking job in that respect with little resistance I hear he is going to parade Denis Wise on the pitch at half time, saying "this is what I think of you lot" followed by "see you all next week" . . . NOT true, unfortunately, but it fully and accurately sums up (to me) the "total contempt" that he appears to have for us. He would LOVE to do that, I think.

Would rather not have owners like that tbh. why not? they've invested a load for the local community and the club? what type of owners do you want? not rich? not arabs? The Man City owners are the PERFECT owners, in my opinion. What they do in their own country that we might not like (if they do anything at all) is down to them and their own country to eventually sort out. As owners of a UK Premier League Football Club, they are just perfect.

If you are currently under 10 years of age, there's a slight chance you might see some ! To think that in 1969/70, as it was the first season I could afford to go to matches regularly, I was accused of being a "Glory Hunter", as we had just won the Fairs Cup in June that year (1968/69 Season) !!! If I only knew . . . .

Let's just hope that if Ashley actually does sell us, then our new owners are not just a collection of un-ambitious, pedestrian, not-very-rich people, who will ensure the continuity of our current mediocrity. I know it will be great to be rid of Ashley . . . but not if we just get "Ashley 2" !!

Yes, it is indeed going to be in South Newcastle. It will be (as is 'The Sage') a more prominent part of the City Centre than almost any other part of the City Centre. That is why these 'south bank' places work, because they are in the City Centre !!!

While it is 'reality' at the moment, I can never get used to reading and hearing things like the above, where the sentence "Small clubs like Newcastle United" is written. If you supported Newcastle United through the 1990s and 2000s, we were a fabulously rich 'big' club (whatever your definition) so it is difficult to accept casually and routinely written statements like the above. Back then, it being a new competition, it was considered by many a director/board and the media and indeed fans in general (no doubt many of our own fans back in the day too), as a pointless competition where even the European Cup was still regarded with a certain disdain in many quarters as inferior and somewhat beneath the myopic superiority of our our domestic competitions. But to those that knew football, managers, especially the newer breed, players who considered representing their country abroad as the highest honour and fans not easily swayed by the xenophobic and self righteous opinion of the media filled with hacks who once saw the typewriter as the enemy to the pen, it was a tough exciting competition and equal in many ways to the European Cup in terms of quality and the path to glory. Football was quite different back then, Malmö were a crack European team for example and when we won the Fairs Cup so were we and had that team been added to by someone more ahead of the times or keeping of the times back then like a Revie or a Clough, the Fairs Cup winning team could have been moulded into league and European cup champions. Look at the gates, the battles, the scenes when we brought it home, it wasn’t just some throw away competition or meaningless trophy. The mackems and others may mock it today or try and day it wasn’t a proper competition, but that’s sour grapes. We thought we would walk it and although we won it, we soon realised just how big an achievement it was given the quality of opposition, the competitiveness of all those that entered it and what it took to win it. Again, the scenes speak for itself. Ask any of those surviving players today what they think about this so-called loser trophy and they wouldn’t swap it for a league title or an FA Cup and I don’t think those fans that were lucky enough to see us lift it would either, not then and not now. Sadly UEFA have devalued their competitions in a sporting context over the years, but to win any piece of silverware today in Europe is still a mighty feat to achieve whether it’s Real Madrid in the CL or Chelsea in the Europa League. Although their spoilt fans will probably regard their success in that as highly as winning the reserves league... The tournament was eventually re-named as "The UEFA Cup" and then later as "The Europa League", but back in 1969 it was a MUCH bigger and more important tournament than it now is. this bloke needs some maths lessons cos 1969 wasn't 63 years ago.... No indeed, 1969 was definitely NOT "63 years ago" . . . 1969 European Fairs Cup Win : a HISTORIC YEAR in the long and illustrious history of NEWCASTLE UNITED FC . . .

There was "shock" when Kevin Keegan resigned as our manager, the first time. There was "amazement" when Sir Bobby Robson was sacked. The word that I think will describe most of our emotions at the end of the coming season when Rafa leaves, will simply be . . "sadness". That is what I think (I can almost feel it now). Do you agree?

He 'wants to' stay a long time, we know that. However, Mike Ashley is (effectively) asking him to leave . . NO . . "begging" him to leave, by all the actions / non-actions that he deliberately takes. Therefore, Rafa will HAVE TO LEAVE, at the end of this coming season. Unless . . . . . "Takeover" !!!

That has been obvious for many, many years. I just could not understand why some people, some supporters, could not seem to understand that, and kept on "denying it". NOW YOU KNOW (TOO LATE . . )
