if it remains? its the fucking 16th of January and not one sniff of anyone being brought in or the situation being different. We all know we will spend nothing in January barring that stupid Jan of 2016 we have spent a grand total of 300k in the other 4 jan windows combined Feb 1st will be the nail in our coffin for a lot of fans im at the point where im 95% done with NUFC and that really hurts. This fat fucking cunt has killed my love of my club for me. We are an absolute nothing club now just another of his utter shit business portfolio who happens to have a sporting organisation attached to it Yes, it appears (as it has done for many years) that we are beaten, finally. He has WON.

Agree with this. Common sense.

If you are currently under 10 years of age, there's a slight chance you might see some ! To think that in 1969/70, as it was the first season I could afford to go to matches regularly, I was accused of being a "Glory Hunter", as we had just won the Fairs Cup in June that year (1968/69 Season) !!! If I only knew . . . .

Let's just hope that if Ashley actually does sell us, then our new owners are not just a collection of un-ambitious, pedestrian, not-very-rich people, who will ensure the continuity of our current mediocrity. I know it will be great to be rid of Ashley . . . but not if we just get "Ashley 2" !!

Yes, it is indeed going to be in South Newcastle. It will be (as is 'The Sage') a more prominent part of the City Centre than almost any other part of the City Centre. That is why these 'south bank' places work, because they are in the City Centre !!!

While it is 'reality' at the moment, I can never get used to reading and hearing things like the above, where the sentence "Small clubs like Newcastle United" is written. If you supported Newcastle United through the 1990s and 2000s, we were a fabulously rich 'big' club (whatever your definition) so it is difficult to accept casually and routinely written statements like the above. This is the world we were in . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=72784611&postcount=208

Back then, it being a new competition, it was considered by many a director/board and the media and indeed fans in general (no doubt many of our own fans back in the day too), as a pointless competition where even the European Cup was still regarded with a certain disdain in many quarters as inferior and somewhat beneath the myopic superiority of our our domestic competitions. But to those that knew football, managers, especially the newer breed, players who considered representing their country abroad as the highest honour and fans not easily swayed by the xenophobic and self righteous opinion of the media filled with hacks who once saw the typewriter as the enemy to the pen, it was a tough exciting competition and equal in many ways to the European Cup in terms of quality and the path to glory. Football was quite different back then, Malmö were a crack European team for example and when we won the Fairs Cup so were we and had that team been added to by someone more ahead of the times or keeping of the times back then like a Revie or a Clough, the Fairs Cup winning team could have been moulded into league and European cup champions. Look at the gates, the battles, the scenes when we brought it home, it wasn’t just some throw away competition or meaningless trophy. The mackems and others may mock it today or try and day it wasn’t a proper competition, but that’s sour grapes. We thought we would walk it and although we won it, we soon realised just how big an achievement it was given the quality of opposition, the competitiveness of all those that entered it and what it took to win it. Again, the scenes speak for itself. Ask any of those surviving players today what they think about this so-called loser trophy and they wouldn’t swap it for a league title or an FA Cup and I don’t think those fans that were lucky enough to see us lift it would either, not then and not now. Sadly UEFA have devalued their competitions in a sporting context over the years, but to win any piece of silverware today in Europe is still a mighty feat to achieve whether it’s Real Madrid in the CL or Chelsea in the Europa League. Although their spoilt fans will probably regard their success in that as highly as winning the reserves league... I have written this post (see 'link' below) about our "Fabulous Fairs Cup Win" of 1969. The tournament was eventually re-named as "The UEFA Cup" and then later as "The Europa League", but back in 1969 it was a MUCH bigger and more important tournament than it now is. Remember, only one team went into the 'European Cup' (now called 'The Champions league') so most of the teams that would now be in the Champions League (from 2nd, 3rd and 4th position in their domestic leagues) would all be in the Fairs Cup, with us. Here is the story of our superb 1969 Fairs Cup adventures . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=55836819&postcount=942 Thanks for sharing the link, not been on there in years, used to love that place as a reader. Bookmarked it, again cheers. Thanks HTT. I am proud of my "Fairs Cup" photos, etc, that I have accumulated over the years and used many of to write that long post about our 1968/1969 Fairs Cup WIN over on the 'Newcastle Forum of SkyscraperCity'. Speaking of SkyscraperCity, it is good to see that you are planning to return. I am the Moderator over there, so if you need any help just get in touch. It is an excellent Forum !!

Thanks to the above and to all of the others who posted similar comments. I am pleased to share all those "1969 Fairs Cup" photos and souvenirs anytime. I have been collecting them all (over the years) since . . er . . 1969 !!!

this bloke needs some maths lessons cos 1969 wasn't 63 years ago.... No indeed, 1969 was definitely NOT "63 years ago" . . . 1969 European Fairs Cup Win : a HISTORIC YEAR in the long and illustrious history of NEWCASTLE UNITED FC . . .

There was "shock" when Kevin Keegan resigned as our manager, the first time. There was "amazement" when Sir Bobby Robson was sacked. The word that I think will describe most of our emotions at the end of the coming season when Rafa leaves, will simply be . . "sadness". That is what I think (I can almost feel it now). Do you agree?
-
He 'wants to' stay a long time, we know that. However, Mike Ashley is (effectively) asking him to leave . . NO . . "begging" him to leave, by all the actions / non-actions that he deliberately takes. Therefore, Rafa will HAVE TO LEAVE, at the end of this coming season. Unless . . . . . "Takeover" !!!
-
That has been obvious for many, many years. I just could not understand why some people, some supporters, could not seem to understand that, and kept on "denying it". NOW YOU KNOW (TOO LATE . . )

Love Sue Barker. An excellent presenter of shows like this.
-
Just watched it. Fantastic film. If only Ashley would watch it, it may give him something he has never had . . . PRIDE in our great club. He might even start to realise what he and Rafa could achieve here.
-
If it's "live on Sky" then it is live on TV. If it is live on any of these other 'things' then . . . "get that radio on" !!!
-
Best to call it by its proper name . . . 3rd Division.
-
Makes that quote and then realises that to get any kind of culture or nightlife he has to do it in the city he's just slagged off. Should be interesting. Aye! Saying he hates Newcastle for no reason will definitely turn out well for him. Their 'first thought' in the morning is Newcastle, their second thought is Newcastle United, their third thought is Newcastle, their fourth thought (if they have that many) is Newcastle United, and so on throughout the day. Their last thought at night is (of course) Newcastle and/or Newcastle United. He is obviously one (or trying to be) of THEM. All my life I have known that THEY think more often about us than even we do! Most of us rarely (to never) think about them. Sad, very sad, for them. Born / live / die (in Sunderland, I think it's called) and only ever think about Newcastle !!!
-
The "Cockney Evening Standard" is the WORST Local Paper in the entire UK. I lived down there for years, and it makes the Newcastle Chronicle look like the 'Times' in comparison !! Don't (ever) believe a word written in it.
-
Third division  Still hilarious. The former name of "Third Division" sound more accurate, explains what it actually is far better.
-
It was a European competition. Most mackems have never seen, nor understand what it means to take part in European football. Barcelona have it proudly on display on their honours list etc. That’s good enough for me. If there are any idiots on the planet who do not think that the Fairs Cup was a Major Trophy (and I don't think there actually can be any really) then let them read through THIS . . . http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=55836819&postcount=942

They haven't bought any more City Centre properties for about 20 years, but they already own most of the "EPS" (East Pilgrim Street) area outlined here in RED . . . http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/manorpark_photos/Newcastle%204/Newcastle%205/East%20Pilgrim%20Street%20-%20EPS%202_zpsxmqudece.jpg

Short answer, just additional views on lots of things, as I have already said she has had contact with other supporters and supporter groups. I am led to believe that she’ll want to maintain this sort of contact with supporters during her time here. Long answer, she was very focused on how the club can grow commercially. Also the academy and training facilities seem to be something that she wants to improve immediately. I tried asking her if there were stadium developments in mind, but she was evasive on the subject. Your 'long answer' is shorter than your 'short answer'. My point was supposed to be that she touched on all sorts of matters, but her main areas of concern or interested were certainly the commercial and training/academy aspects of the club. When this happens, I hope that people on here are as enthusiastic in their apologies to Stifleaay, as they are now with their criticism. Just wait. The size (and the mentioned 'enthusiasm') of the eventual mass apologies, just gets larger by the hour.
