The main players mentioned in this thread (in the Opening Post, etc) are all 'out on their own' (from the rest) as worlds best players over various eras. Having seen many of them live a few times, and on television many times, there are two who stand out (even) from those listed in the Opening Post. Pele and George best. Both of them had more of all the attributes than any of the others. Messi is 'getting close' mind!! All the others mentioned are also (of course) 'very close', but Best and Pele were the best players of all time . . . In my opinion!

It gets worse. Next seasons new shirt sponser has just been announced. Details of our new shirt design have also just been released. http://www.fototime.com/6D1AD2D88BF9711/orig.jpg

For SJP read VMA Though, NOT in our house! I can see the eventual 'sponsor' name for St James' Park being Virgin Money Arena . . . after the deal for VM to purchase Northern Rock, announced this morning. You heard it here first!!
-
I haven't seen it myself yet, but I have been told that there is even more Sports Direct signage now going up at St.James' Park. On the outside, this time!

Near Hitchin. Nope still got me Not far North of London, one of the "New Towns" around London (Harlow, Stevenage etc) like Cramlington, Washington, Killingworth are to Newcastle. Basically, it is a typical Southern Dump!!

Fairs Cup legend Sinclair loses cancer battle September 2nd 2010, by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/nechronical/sep2010/7/5/members-of-newcastle-united-s-fairs-cup-winning-team-at-the-mansion-house-in-jesmond-to-celebrate-the-40th-anniversary-534416363.jpg JACKIE SINCLAIR has died after a long battle against cancer. The legendary Fairs Cup winger, aged 66, is the first of the triumphant 1969 team to pass away. Skipper of the iconic side Bob Moncur was first to pay tribute to Sinclair and said today: "We’ve known he was ill for some time, but it is a sad miss to us. "He was a mainstay of the side. He was obviously a key member of the team that won the Fairs Cup. "I like him very much because he was an old fashioned Scottish winger. "He's the first of that team to pass away and he will be a big sad miss to us all. "He set up so many goals on our Fairs Cup winning team for Wyn Davies and Pop Robson." Speaking last year at the reunion of the 1969 win, Sinclair said: “Seeing old pictures of me with the other lads still gets you. “It seems like yesterday but you realise it was 40 years ago. It’s hard to imagine. Memories are fresh. “We will never forget the occasion, but in case we ever did, the pictures of us on the bus from the airport to St James’s Park will always be at the ground as a reminder.” Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton also paid tribute to the United legend: "Everyone at the club was very saddened to learn of the untimely death of Jackie Sinclair. "We knew he had been bravely battling cancer and had been unwell for some time. "I'm told Jackie was a terrific player during his time at St. James' Park and was instrumental in helping the Club win the Fairs Cup back in 1969. "Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time." The winning of our last major trophy, The Fairs Cup win of 1969, with Jackie Sinclair's help is covered HERE . . . http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=55836819&postcount=944 and here is that "Hail to the 1969 European Fairs Cup Winners" photo AGAIN - featuring Jackie of course, second from the left on the front row, next to Jimmy Scott . . . http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/manorpark_photos/1969EuropeanFairsCupWinners.jpg R.I.P. Jackie.

We haven't won a trophy since 1969 - the Second Division doesn't count.

Crikey, Pop Robson!!! Great player, scored a lot of goals, and some really GREAT goals for us. Him and Wyn helped us win (no pun intended!) the Fairs Cup. Was disappointed when he had a bust up with the club (over their lack of ambition) and was transferred to West Ham.

20th is still pretty poor for us though, and shows what a mess we are in now. The likes of 'Tottenham' have a higher turnover than us now!!! For years and years, until very recently, there were only FOUR really rich clubs in England MANCHESTER UNITED LIVERPOOL ARSENAL NEWCASTLE UNITED The turnover of the 'permanent rich four' was a long way ahead of the chasing bunch (there was a big gap) which was the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea, etc. THEN, of course, along came the "Abramovich/Chelski" situation, and we were joined by them, in a (seemingly) permanent financial BIG FIVE . . a LONG way ahead of the chasing pack. With our huge ground and large support around the world, even if we (amazingly, with ALL that) 'still' failed to WIN things, our future as one of the 'permanent financial BIG FIVE' (now with Chelsea) was assured . . . I mean, we weren't going to stop filling the ground / buying the merchandise / getting TV money, etc, were we?? SO, the 'permanent financial big five' were . . . MANCHESTER UNITED LIVERPOOL ARSENAL NEWCASTLE UNITED CHELSEA (artificially, as they were making BIG BIG BIG 'losses' every year). THEN . . along came Mike Ashley . . . NOW, we are all "trained" to (like him) T H I N K S M A L L . . . and be "pleased" we are in the 'top 20', and compare oursevles in thought and word, to "Portsmouth". You know . . we have LOST so much . . . we are probably never going to be what we have been for most of the last 15 years. We have lost SO much! At last some sense. It's always pleasing to read a post of someone who actually fully understands our long term past, our recent past and our present. Thank you. People get so caught up in certain opinions that they actually are blinded by things. Freddy Shepherd is one thing, that is either black or white for most people, and they're so consumed by being on one side of the fence or other they can't give a balanced view. There are two extremes, there used to be a guy who had his own forum, an older chap who was blinded by his love of FFS, and at the same time there are those who are consumed by biased non-sense that everything he did during his time at the club was bad. He was good and bad, and definitively people who can't see that are idiots. Thanks. Common sense, and a 'real appreciation' of where we actually ARE in relation to where we SHOULD BE (in the 'bigger picture') is not very fashionable, in these apologist days. ACCEPTED MEDIOCRITY, is the seeming 'norm' these days. That viewpoint, when expressed, is well supported!! WHY, I do not know (never will know!) (Waits to be attacked or ignored by the "we know our place next to Portsmouth" crowd!)

Didn't just walk out on him tbh, walked out on us. Should have just went public with the story then Ashley would have had to either fire him or back him. Anyone with any sense would blame Keegan as well as Ashley. The above response spells out what he should have done. I know how much I love this club, Keegan says he loves this club, I know that I would NOT have done what he did and would have done something like what is suggested above. Someone who loved the club and the city and the supporters (in his position) would do a MILLION things, would do ANYTHING . . . rather than walk out on the club and supporters so soon after he came back to 'finish unfinished business'. I know that genuinly blind and almost obsessed Keegan lovers CAN NOT accept that he is even partially to blame. They just never will, which is a shame. If Keegan had of waited until he was sacked, he would have been entitled to even more money !!!! And you would have still been having a go at him for that as well, how about looking at Ashleys part for putting Keegan in the postion where he had to do what he did ? Why?? We all know that Ashley is to blame for this . . . THAT is not at issue. What IS at issue is that there are some people who do not think that Keegan shares some of the blame. I repeat (!!!) he should not have resigned, he should have done what has been suggested - if he really loved the club as he says he does. So you accept that Ashely forced Keegan to walk by lying and undermining him on transfers, but Keegan should have stuck it out and waited for a even bigger fat wedge for getting sacked !!!! Have i got this right, because if i have then that would have been even worse for the club. As it stands he got a small payout (how much did fat sam get for getting sacked) and shown to the world how badly Ashley has been running this club. Keegan should not have done what he did when he did it. There are no further add-ons, assumptions, perspectives, variations etc, etc, to what I say, nothing about pay-offs in the (then) future - NOTHING. JUST - Keegan should not have left when he did. That is it!!
-
Oh yes, of course, he was "constructively dismissed" . . . and using that term makes a difference, how? "Dear Mr Keegan, you are constructively dismissed, please leave immediately" (sorry . . too late - he's GONE already)

Not just you, there are a lot who think (feel) the same.

for me, the times where clubs spend 15millions++ on players have passed, and eventually i think a club driven like that will eventually bite the dust. VERY funny!!!!!
-
This sounds interesting (on reflection, oh no it doesn't!) Might be . . . . . . .
-
Amazingly - that is completely correct. I say "amazingly" because those four clubs are specifically the four "always nothing / mid-table mediocrity" clubs, that for over ten years we could legitimately look DOWN on with a form of 'contempt'. THEY were never going to achieve anything . . . WE were getting it right (or often 'about to' get it right) with a far huger turnover than them, massive 50,000+ stadium always full, fame and great worldwide support and favourable TV coverage, lots of 'big name' players, etc, etc. NOW look at us, relative to them!!!! The sheer scale of our recent decline is incredible - we have comfortably achieved the very near-impossible!
-
Stop 'beating about the bush' will you, just SAY what you mean . . .
-
what about psychological ? i've never checked but i reckon if anyone was looking at starting up a psychotherapy practise, the newcastle/north tryneside area would be a prime spot cos of this here football club. True!!

Well, I came clean, at least. I think that (supporting this lot for so long) I am beyond medical help now, anyway.

Dave, and others who have commented . . . in my own defence AND an admission! I am a normal NUFC fan, of long standing, and I do NOT feel happy in the Second Division. I do not feel happy about us winning/drawing/losing matches in the Second Division - I "hate" every moment of it. I cannot understand how there are so many people (from the way they talk on here, and elsewhere) that DO seem to be so very happy, JUST because we are winning. I know they are not 'analysing' it . . . it is just how they feel, because we are beating teams. They are enjoying it! ME, I just hate the ignominy of it . . . we "qualified" to beat these teams by being relegated. NEWCASTLE UNITED FC (the "post 1992" Newcastle United FC) have 'left the Premier League' . . . that (in itself) should have been impossible. So, that is why I say what I say - because I cannot feel as these others do. Now - the ADMISSION . . . in my previous posts on this subject, I have been very guilty of using "over-dramatic" language, mainly to try to make people think . . . but partially just to 'wind people up'. I am TOTALLY wound up about our relegation - so why should I not wind others up too? I will try to curb that from now on. BUT - I still cannot be happy about ANYTHING that happens while we are down there . . . not even if (as we probably will) we go "five points clear at the top" tomorrow - because it is top OF the . . er . . . well you know what !!!
