  1. Why on EARTH would we ever wait so long to try to do these sort of deals (whether they are half-decent players or not is another matter). What is wrong with January 1st or January 2nd? (rather than February 1st or February 2nd)
  2. Not the actual point at issue, I know - but I much prefer to say "London is pretty far south of Newcastle". It is THEY that are 'distant' - not us. Important point.
  3. Enrique had a pretty good game. It's all about opinions . . . !!!
  4. As I grew up in the 70s and experiencing 74 at the age of 10 and knowing about 69 I had a view of Newcastle United as a club with a proud history that could on occasion have a sniff of winning something without being a top, top club. After relegation and a few years of s**** as I stated going to the matches I'd accepted that the chances of that sniff had receded so concentrated on just having a good time at the matches where football almost became secondary - you could say an "Ashley" type viewpoint. John Hall and Kevin Keegan changed that attitude and stirred something in me and others that still burns - a desire to see us go beyond that attitude of the 70s and actually become a top club. Bobby Robson and yes Freddie Shepherd also shared that desire. Mike Ashley has never spoken about wanting any of that - he has never named a target or an aim beyond financial stability - it was left to Keegan again when he was appointed to talk about at least having a go at the top 4 or maybe winning a cup. What I see now is people arguing for going back to the defeatist attitude of the past where they talk about "enjoyment" and "stability" by which they mean not rattling any feathers or being scared of having a go because as far as I can see one club out of dozens who've tried have gone a bit tits up (Leeds). Even then they haven't folded - they could still come back but that's not good enough for the doom merchants who despite never having seen a "big" club fold for donkeys years seem to think we're heading there. I'm 44 and possibly having 20 or 30 years left I would like to see us win something and more importantly try and win something. That may sound selfish but I also want it to happen for people who are kids now so that the won't have memories based on trudging around Cambridge and Shrewsbury. I've said this before - given how much debt the top clubs have I'd rather the club was in debt (though manageable) and competing than being "stable" and seeing 10th as a good season. I am intrigued as to why you expect to die so young? I don't know you, so perhaps you have an illness, if so please accept my apologies. It just seemed such a strange thing to say, to expect to die so young.
  5. I wonder if the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United would have such a massive fanbase if the last triumph was a cup over 50 years ago. Liverpool and Manure doesnt not have better supporters then we do, they are just like us, people with feelings and hopes. I think its a miracle that a club like Newcastle still can produce supporters when being s*** for such a long time. and still there is 45.000+ attending every f***ing game, even against s*** teams like West Bromwich on a cold f***ing freezing late October night. 1969 is 39 years ago, NOT "over 50" . . .
  6. Absolutely. We are very much a club that needs galvanised a, "shearer" would do that IMO. Still think Bilic would be canny like. Bilic would be my very first choice but he'd never come here. Oh dear, seems to be yet another member of the annoying (My cloth cap is too large . . ) "He'll never come here" / "he'll never come here" / "he'll never come here" / "he'll never come here" BRIGADE . . . Not really having a go at you as an individual, just at the whole 'small-thinking' attitude some people have, particularly (sadly) many of the younger fans. I know times are difficult at the moment, but they will not always be!
  7. How would this (if true) affect any hopes he/the prospective new owners have of him returning as manager? Why does anyone take any notice of a grotty little local rag from the South?
  8. Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne 6. Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne 7. Is it?? I assume you meant postcodes? If so I live in NE7 yes. Manor Park is NE6 though I think if that's what you meant... I was rudely butting into what you said without reading the jist of it... Not rude at all, thanks for joining in. It is interesting that my old school (Manor Park School) dipped off the radar many years ago ('new' people had not heard of it, after it became called 'Heaton Manor School') now that Manor Park School has been demolished and replaced by some new houses called . . "Manor Park" - people have suddenly heard of it again! I always thought that the Heaton area of Newcastle was 'Newcastle 6', along with Byker and Walker??
  9. Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne 6. Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne 7. Is it??
  10. Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne. As John Wayne said as he was stopped by the police when he was crossing the Tyne Bridge on his horse. They said "where are you going?" He (John Wayne) said "West-I(er)-hope"
  11. Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne 6.
  12. Have you ever got or said anything right in your entire life? I know everyone has different opinions, but those words are just ****. Must be taking the **** (surely?)
  13. Whereabouts in Newcastle? Are you from Walker perhaps . . . ? Nope, Gosforth Same as me, good old 'Newcastle 3' - the best part of Newcastle. Though I was brought up (dragged up through a holly bush) in Newcastle 4 (Elswick) and also Newcastle 2 (Jesmond).
  14. Carlisle should be North West I would have thought. Carlisle has always been a sort of 'honourary' part of the North East, because it gets its Regional BBC programmes from Newcastle, so it gets the 'Newcastle version' of the news, rather than (say) Manchester's. Have you noticed the BBC announcing . . . "In the North East & Cumbria" ? Geographically, it is of course in the Wild West!
  15. Whereabouts in Newcastle? Are you from Walker perhaps . . . ?
  16. Walker is in Newcastle. It is :-[ So, you see - Walker IS listed!! (I know you know that and I knew you knew that, did you know I knew you knew that?)
  17. So was I. I expected it to be way less than (even) 10,000 - that would've shown em.
  18. Let's hope he really is a toon fan because if he is, what's an extra hundred million or so to a fella with his cash? My gut feeling is still (as I said in the original Ambani thread) that it will be Ambani who buys us.
  19. I'm not arsed about challenging Man City if i'm honest, I just want a bit of pride back in my club. Staying up this season and aiming to keep as many of our best players as we can is our current objective. Then we can see about this 75m. There are lots of people saying things like that these days. Genuine, simple, ambition, is a thing of the past. It simply never occurs to most of our 'brow-beaten' fans these days. Survival, is about the 'highest' ambition (if you could call it that) that most people seem to have these days, and who can blame them after years of failure and the recent turmoil. yep. i think finally the expectations levels have dropped. All i want is a bit of hope. If new owners bring that, then great. Lets start all over again... again. You know, that is about the BEST thing I have seen on here for ages. I often get tied up in what "we should have achieved since 1969, since 1992, since 1996, etc, etc, etc. It's ALL GONE !!!! Lets start again, forget the past non-achievements, lets get new owners with a bit (well, a LOT if possible) of dosh . . and a lot of ("fan-like") enthusiasm, allied to a bit of intelligent business acumen . . . LETS JUST START AGAIN (AGAIN!). Now . . . . . I just need to convince myself . . . anyone know where I can get an 'amnesia' drug? Dammit!

  21. - It's been their policy since Llambias took over, hence why I think he's to blame. - Surely you're basing your view that they're doing "nothing about anything" solely on the lack of information coming from the club, thus proving my point? Unless of course you've got access to the minutes of the board meetings that you'd like to tell us about? I am basing it solely on my understanding of Human Nature. Ashley's.
  22. This, really. Too many people are calling for Wise's head, and the only thing they can say when asked why is something like "I hate him", or "He's the cause of all the problems" or "What's he done since he was appointed?" without actually giving a single shred of evidence that the guy's done anything wrong. Don't misunderstand me, as a player I hated him. As a person, he may well be a c***. And maybe, just maybe he IS to blame for everything that's happened but at the same time there's absolutely no evidence of this whatsoever. It's all just mindless speculation. The main problem in all this for me is the complete silence from the club. If people want to protest, then the only thing that they should be protesting about is the lack of any information coming from inside NUFC. The buck stops for that with either Ashley or Llambias, and since things were much better under Mort then I'd think that it's Llambias who has shut up shop in that respect. There is no communication from the club, because that is their 'policy' (has been for quite a while now) AND . . . there is nothing to say anyway, as they are doing nothing about anything.
  23. He is in meltdown, and (at the same time) he is full of HATE towards us for what he feels we did to him. He will get his revenge on us, he knows exactly how to do that.
