  1. Pretty much all clubs in the Premier League have 1-3, how many have spent more than £10m net this summer? Honest question, I don't know. Our spending power reflects our finishing positions over the last couple of years, surely. We're therefore cutting our cloth accordingly. If we finish this year well in the top half I'd expect higher spending next year to build on that. Is that concept difficult to accept for our fans? well your first point is bullshit dave, are you saying our crowds & turnover are anywhere neat pompey, hull, stoke, blackburn, 'boro etc...? our spending power reflects what we're spending dave, nothing more nothing less...i find your argument laughable - you can only increase spend if you improve matters on the pitch without spending? that's the rationale and it isn't how football works i'll let NE5 and others take it from here First point, see the bit where I said 'pretty much all'. Obviously some clubs have bigger stadia than others, but most in the Premier League get 30k+, and all get the increased TV money. Second point, where did I say we should be (or are) spending nothing? I didn't say that at all. i'll rephrase then; why must/does spending have any link to last seasons performance? or the last few seasons even? i guess you're gonna use the europe argument (i.e. players won't come) but that's doesn't work either, the amount we're willing to spend has nothing to do with europe at this point imo as the amount clubs get from the waffa are negligible anyway so come on then, given our "status" compared to many other clubs in the league with regards my original 1-3 why are we not spending more? (lets just assume there's a standing agreement this becomes moot if we spend rather than you tell me the windows not closed yet) The previous few seasons determine our cashflow, our status and reputation, our potential for the future. How can it possibly not be relevant? The top four is virtually inpenetrable because they can all bank on the ludicrous amounts of money flowing in from the Champions League every year. If Liverpool finished 5th for three years on the spin do you think their spending would continue as now? i can't do this again dave, others will pick it up and run with it if they can be arsed lets just hope we're gonna pull something out of the hat eh? Hey, time will tell. Nothing is more real than the truth I guess : D

I think you misunderstood what he meant. He is not comparing Newcastle United's crowd with the crowds of the others. He is merely stating that pretty much all the clubs in the Premier League has huge crowds and increased TV money. It is a fair statement if you look at the crowds that attend Championship games, League 1 games etc. I see no problem with that. As for the other statement, let us all be realistic, in this capitalist market today, football is a sport no doubt but also a sound and profitable investment. How many will be like Roman Abramovich? The world is realistic. No matter passionate a person may be towards sports, profit/money is still the important thing. Of course, there can be exception but it is rare in today's modern capitalist market. Football does not work like in the past anymore sadly. Things have changed and move on. What Dave said is the bible for the modern capitalist football market today.
  3. Can Gaydamak be considered as a Billionaire? What about the Liverpool owners? I think to be fair, our squad is actually bigger than a lot of other squads out there maybe? - the likes of Everton, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Arsenal? Mmmmm of course, critics will turn to say we should have more ambition and compare/aim ourselves to be like Manchester United or even Chelsea (luxury of 3 players in 1 position?)?
  4. Personally, the ideal situation would be to grab talented youngsters at young age + at a cheap price and groom them up in our own academy? Is that currently themed as the Arsenal model? -shrugs- But I am sure we have to add older players at one point or another to cover up the gaps etc (if there are any). - like Manchester United?
  5. Debts? Well... Thaksin still has some cash which are not frozen yet... In any case, he is on a limited liability but Manchester City isn't... however if all goes wrong, Thaksin can always look to sell and buyers will clear the debts or City could do a Leeds!
  6. Based on Ashley's track record at commercial level, he is never one to splash cash recklessly.
  7. Angel Di Maria -optimistic- -.-
  8. Is SWP considered the 'wow' signing previously talked about then?
  9. I will reply to the first question with another question: Would he risk holding out and in the end not playing for a season? Probably not. (That's my guess at least.) Well it depends on who has more endurance I guess.

Don't forget he scores 4 goals each game. I hope he plays soon just so you'll shut up. Imagine if he actually ends up scoring 4 goals [Purely for laughter] If he ends up scoring 4 goals each game, opponents should use a girl as a defender. He did also say he has a weakness for girls on myspace : P hahahahha
  11. Berbatov at Tottenham: 1. For the club, they are paying him wages but not using him, would be a big waste of money and it can be better spent elsewhere 2. For the player, not playing a single game for the entire season, will he be happy? I guess not. Berbatov to Manchester United: 1. Strengthen Manchester United Squad (There is no denial that he is a decent player at the very least) 2. Scupper Tottenham's attempt at overtaking one of the big 4 (If that is what Tottenham intended) Berbatov to Newcastle United: 1. From a realistic point of view, it does not matter if he does not love the club, what is important is he can perform Loving the club, wanting to be here permanently is a bonus I guess Otherwise, in this mercenary market today, it is not a big deal. Surely not all our players are here because they genuinely want to be a newcastle united player for life... or they love us to bit - They are here either due to high wages, old-age, lack of better options or using us as a stepping stone etc (What else?) - That reminds me of Shearer (I kinda salute him because he must have plenty of options to choose from at his peak and yet he chose us and remained loyal to us till he retired) --> but such players are rare nowadays. 2. It is far better than his current situation at Tottenham (unless the situation improves of course - Like a Barry U-Turn?) Ideal situation for Tottenham: - Patch back is the most ideal situation (cannot see it happening at the moment) - Otherwise, sell Berbatov but not to an EPL club
  12. From Soccernet: "Darren Fletcher: The goal-machine celebrates his opener." Oh my!

  20. But but.. Owen is not suitable for a lone striker role.... x.x and Owen plays deep remember?
  21. I think he'll sign, actually. Pretty confident about it too. Ditto. I think he will get 21 - 30 games at the very least, according to previous statistics. Mmmmm optimistically, I will say he might even manage 15 to 20 goals this season. He seems to get 1 goal every 1 to 1.5 games from the past few games.

  23. I, too, noticed that Beye seems more willing to bomb forward with Geremi on the right. Shruges, maybe it's for tactical reasons or maybe Beye is more comfortable/confident with it.
