  1. Not the worst result for us if Liverpool win the League Cup anyway tbh, plus it means they'll have to play in the Europa League which they're far too good for....

    Who can go?

Those saying Obertan Granted he hasn't shown much but he's only played what? 15 games for us. The lad needs time, if he hasn't shown anything by the end of next season then get rid.

Dam right From the same article "...it is understood to be the case that the clause in his contract actually stipulated that Ba cannot be sold until the summer transfer window.". Bugger was hoping it was a relegation release clause. If he signs a new contract (and I suspect he will), the clause won't exist. This signing could be exactly what is required to convince our big players to stay.

  5. 0-0 or 1-1, and tbf I'd be satisfied with a draw.

  7. QFT Closed out the game in the second half in a manner that I was relaxed watching "noocastle" at 1-0 for the first time in my life. This. Didn't think we were ever in danger of conceding, and whilst I would have liked us to be a bit more attacking in the second half the most important thing was that we came away with a W. Expect a similar type of performance next week at Fulham - hopefully with the same result.
  8. Tbf, I did see him working harder than he ever has before defensively so what Pardew has been drumming into him has had some effect.

  10. From what was said, I got the impression that we said to Chelsea that they can have Torres (who wanted out anyway) provided we get the replacements we want. Dalglish and/or Comolli decided upon Carroll and asked Ashley how much he wanted. Ashley pulled a ridiculous figure out of his arse, and instead of trying to negotiate the price down to something reasonable, we just whacked the difference on Torres's price, rang Abramovich and he said yes. If he'd refused to go above £40m, we'd certainly have come back offering £25m. I mean, £35m for Carroll was fucking ridiculous, but so was £50m for Torres. Perhaps not the Torres of 2007-2008, but certainly for the Torres they actually bought. According to Werner, Carroll's actual ticket price was never a concern. He didn't care if we were overpaying for Carroll, as long as we weren't screwing up our squad and the bottom line was acceptable, and it was certainly worth paying £7m just to replace Torres with Suarez. Whether our board actually considers Carroll to be £35m pissed into the wind is not clear, but it's certainly not the story they're telling. And the heaps of cash they've spunked on "potential", to put it kindly, more or less backs up the idea that they're not interested in getting value-for-money in the transfer market, but rather the bottom line vs return (i.e. points). Personally, I see it as a massive waste of money. And it's not just Carroll we overpaid for. Torres was actually performing decently for you guys before you sold him though (well not performing decently, but still scoring) - so I have no doubt that if you still had Torres you'd be a better team for it than now.

  16. don't be so naive. I don't think it's naivety. I really don't understand how you can make such an assumption and try present it as a flat out fact. It's a stupid clause (if it exists) which would show they didn't have an ounce of faith in their signing. The blame would lie with them, after all most stumbling blocks can be negotiated through compromise. Because Demba Ba couldn't have found another club if we didn't agree to put it in, or if we'd given him £60k p/w that wasn't appearance based and he did his knee in the first game people would be calling them stupid for not making it heavily incentivised towards appearances... They can't win on this board, on this occasion they've done fuck all wrong.
  17. Can these rumours go away please? Still of the opinion he's not that good, and I always was. Benefited from playing in a team that played to his strengths and had players (Barton & Nolan) that played to these strengths. If he came back we wouldn't have those players and he'd be as shite as he is at Liverpool - it'd be a massive waste of money.
  18. Blaming the board, really? 100% guaranteed that Ba wouldn't have signed without the clause - plus with his dodgy knees it was safety for both sides of the party (we pay him a lower basic wage with higher appearance fee in return for a clause in his contract).
