Said the other day I hoped we'd be back in for Thauvin after apparently the fee is only €7.5m (which is a bargain when you consider his potential) Kinnear did say we were in for the same players as a couple of clubs. Maybe Marseille are who he meant. Anyway doubt if we are even in for him after he rejected us in January but I hope.

That's fair enough but if they are thinking that then they should buy or have already lined up a replacement. Pardew is making sounds that it will be the Carroll situation all over again.

Been thinking though. If Colo gets injured or suspended (both highly likely) we will have a pairing of either Mapou- Taylor, Mapou-Williamson or Taylor-Williamson. When you think of some of the horror shows defensively last season including the liverpool game of course which had Mapou and Taylor then I'm shit scared of Colo being missing for any games.

To be fair there's been a fair few players who appear podgy but have also been quality. Tevez is a recent one who comes to mind.

Yeah only real time I've thought downing was decent was when he played for Villa and his best form seemed to come when he played right wing. Then it would be between him and Ben Arfa and obviously I'd pick Hatem every time in that position.

The worst thing about all of this is that this will be Pardew's new excuse for our inevitable bad season. Anytime we play badly he will say "if we had Cabaye in there then we would have controlled the game" etc.

Seemed bizarre for him to start on the bench on saturday given everyone else of pardews likely line up played. Think that was the first telling sign he was off for me and then the bullshit pardew quotes sent it into overdrive.

I want us to spend money and yet some of the fee's being spent by other clubs seems crazy. So much money on unbelievably average players. If a 29yr old(??) Downing is worth £8m and a Bale is worth apparently £85m+ then I shudder to think what a Brazilian Ronaldo or Shearer would be worth in todays market for example.

If I was worth anything at all then I would bet everything on Cabaye leaving. Pardew is just basically trying to break it to us easy rather than it coming out of the blue. The shit about not having time to get a replacement will just be the icing on the cake.

To think we finished 16th last season and have let go 4 or 5 and have signed one player, on loan, who is currently injured. All this after the biggest tv deal in history and nearly all other clubs investing quite heavily in their squads. Oh and we brought back Kinnear whilst also keeping Pardew. Wow cracking summer.
