Hopefully not any smaller either. Seems like everyone will have 50k plus before too long.

Honestly hope he's ok. There's been a number of opportunities to be relentlessly negative since August.

La Croqueta (Iniesta) is I think what you're talking about?

This is the best part

I think it makes it less of an emergency, but I really want to see Miley get a longer run at CM. A solution to a big problem may already be sitting here.

Cole was the club record at the time, wasn't he? Not sure if that fits the pound for pound rankings despite it seeming like nothing now.

In the course of an NFL game I've never really questioned the process playing out. There's still plenty to debate like what is and isn't considered a catch (which is probably similar to handball debates), but I've never felt like I'm not seeing something the video official may be seeing or that they are somehow toying with outcomes. I think this falls more on the side of incompetence than grand conspiracy, though there's enough leeway for an individual to move things in the direction they want and also too many relationships between officials, managers, etc. Step 1 to fixing this for me would be moving all reviews to the PL offices in London (the way the NFL has it centralized in New York) and creating a distinction between pitch referees and replay officials. This probably wouldn't help with the conspiracists who would assume the PL is making it even easier to maneuver results to their liking, but I think it would instantly improve things.

I've always felt like I'm losing my mind watching a lot of these offside reviews. Like we're all in some big experiment to see how stupid we all are as something between corruption and incompetence is carried out before our eyes. At least there aren't so many ridiculous camera angles as there were before, but there are so many inconsistencies I'm not sure how anyone let's this go on with a straight face. The fact that the PL somewhat covertly has a different tolerance (that is subject to human decision) than UEFA is ridiculous, but also the intent of this never should have been about solving 5cm differences. What's more of a fiasco coming out of this Liverpool goal is confirmation that the VAR official can manually adjust the frame when the ball is kicked. You can probably manipulate 99% of debatable offside decisions just by doing that 1-2 frames in either direction.

Well yes, that is easy to look at now. When they finished 3rd and won the LC did you think they'd regress in 2023/24? And then again in 2024/25?
-
That can happen as there can be many good reasons that a team consistently over or under performs their xG and xGA. Not sure that applied to Man United though, especially after 2022/23. It's actually more useful as a long term metric than looking at individual games, but to your point you can't just look at it blindly. Even a single player (e.g. an elite goal keeper or goal scorer could shift things a lot). But with the same manager and roughly the same squad it can be quite informative.

Hadn't seen this, dying

I know there's likely nothing that will stop your crusade against any statistics beyond goals and points, but here's an example of where xG is useful: Manchester United Note: xPts uses xG and xGA 2022/23 Actual Points (Finish): 75 (3rd) Expected Points (Expected Finish): 66 (6th) 2023/24 Actual Points (Finish): 60 (8th) xPTS (Expected Finish): 44 (15th) 2024/25 Actual Points (Finish): 42 (15th) xPTS (Expected Finish): 52 (12th) If all you did was look at the league table for three years you'd be very confused where the 2024/25 season came from, but it had been coming for two years.

Don't let him rewrite history on this. He was quite adamant that ETH was doing just as good a job as Eddie and though their year over year declining xG was irrelevant.
-
Am I right that once they appoint a replacement Man United have had more permanent managers than us since Fergie left? And with caretaker/interim nonsense it's quite a few more?
-
Someone poaching Emery would be wonderful.
-
Yeah, but the table is way more fun if we only play what if with our games. I do think we have a lot of what ifs to be fair.
-
Odds are this is the best Miley. And I think a more regular role in the midfield might turn around our season.

I’m pretty confident we will find better form in the last couple months of the season. The question is what’s still possible after a ridiculous run of games between now and March.
-
If it’s physical then he really needs a couple games off, which maybe we can do with Tino back. If it’s mental then it’s very concerning.
-
Huge win. Only two points off 5th.
-
That’s hilarious at 2-0 up. I’d want to kill him otherwise.
-
The second goal is the whole difference this season. I doubt we’d be enjoying the ball up 1-0.
