  1. Worst Brazilian ever. After Flip. Naa, I saw Fumaca
  2. Wish I shared your optimism. It's not unheard of for one team to drop like a stone in the last few games of a season and nothing about Steve Bruce's preparation for games tells me that we won't be the worst prepared team coming out of this lockdown. Think you should put a bet on then as you will make a canny bet - not going to happen I put 20 quid on us going down about a month before the cessation of the season. Can't remember what odds I got. EDIT. Just had a look got 11/2 on 1st March, price is now 20-1, lumping another 20 on. I'd rather put money on us staying up after winning no more points. It's certainly more than possible, but you're not gonna get the price are you? Or are you?? Hmmm...

  5. I’d imagine that it will go on the existing schedule. Our next match on the existing schedule was Sheffield United at home, so they could potentially have to play two games in three days... If we can't win that game, I can't see us winning another this season. Edit, just noticed that the 17th is a Wednesday, not a Friday as I thought. Still think we'll go down, like.

Really? Was this when he played for us, or when he went on to become a multi millionaire business man? Up We he played for us Must've been punching well above his weight but I suppose he WAS a professional footballer.

  10. Is he a scrotum? Can't stop laughing at Steve Stone there. Looks like some sort of amphibian monster out of Dr Who, with his strangely webbed hands and his stupid face.

I remember it being on nufc.coms match report for that game that their groundsman went in a right tantrum at full time in front of the Newcastle fans and had to be escorted down the tunnel. Or something like that. It was fuckin hilarious, he had to be restrained by a couple of stewards from getting stuck into our whole travelling support, whilst still holding the corner flags. It's been 14 years, plus I was in the back row as far away as you could be, but as I recall he flung the flags to the ground and a massive scuffle ensued between this nugget, a load of stewards / police and the front couple of rows of the away end. Yes, think you're right. It used to be on YouTube, but I can't find it now. Still comfortably the funniest thing I've seen at a match, and I saw the Ranson and Fereday debacle at Oakwell.

  13. Agreed. Pie him off (both literally and figuratively) on the first day of the new regime. The new manager, hopefully Rafa, will need as much time as possible to start putting things right. Who knows when the season will be concluded and the new one started? - we may have a very much truncated close season.
  14. i hate bruce as much as the next person but i'd be amazed if the club didn't give them a fitness regime like toon25 talks some absolutely shite like Let’s see when the season restarts shall we. I’m sure he’s spearheaded a rigorous fitness regime supported by up to date sports science research. If we do get a full resumption of the season, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't win another game. This fraud won't have spent more than an hour a day working on anything during lockdown. The players will have just been told to run around a bit to keep their fitness levels up.
  15. How Jagger and Richards got 100% royalties from (The) Verve over this song should give us all hope what lawyers are capable of if takeover gets knocked back. Pleased if surprised they returned them 22 years later to Ashcroft. Wasn't that version though Elfster, it was the Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra, then Stones manager version. It's on YouTube, but for some reason I don't seem to be able to post links on my phone at the moment. Easiest payday of those lawyers lives tbh Allen Klein was still alive then as well. Anyone who knows his story will know he always got more than his share of the money.

    On this day...

Absolutely distraught after that game. The only highlight I remember was when people were deciding to run on the pitch, remember some bloke just meandering across the pitch holding his sons hand while the match was playing. Proper tickled me. Aye, always makes me laugh when the makems make a big thing about the "disgraceful scenes" that night - a couple of dozen knackers ambled onto the pitch and were sent back by a handful of police. There may have been a few of the, shall we say, more robust members of our hooligan fraternity involved, but I don't think anyone got anywhere near the makems.
  18. You never heard of the FA Cup final then?
  19. They're supposed to be essential workers though. Football isnt essential. Supposed being the operative word there - I can't say too much about my situation, but my workplace hasn't shut down and the work we do is far from essential.

    On this day...

What a read. Hopefully days like this are in the not so distant future. https://www.nufc.com/html/1996-97html/1997-05-11forest-h.html That afternoon was just fuckin perfect. Bloke who sat in front of me used to always bring a little transistor radio to the match and keep all around him up to date with the scores elsewhere (these were pre smartphone days). Me and my mate usually left the ground pretty sharpish, but after the lap of honour we got talking to radio guy and ended up, just the three of us in a pretty much deserted Gallowgate End, listening to the last seconds of the Coventry game. When the full time whistle blew and we realised that not only were we in the Champions League, but Boro AND the makems were down, well we went ballistic, running up and down the now empty stand until we got chucked out by some laughing stewards.

    Euro 96

Tickets were very expensive at the time! Tickets were expensive, there were very few Bulgaria/Romania fans over here, lots of tickets were bought (and not used, the attendance was actually the numbers through the turnstiles, not tickets sold as per now) by French and Spanish fans as there was a loyalty scheme for the next stage. Remember showing my makem mate round the newish Gallowgate end and he was open mouthed at the change in the place, the last time he'd been in there was an 80's Simod Cup game against Derby, with an attendance of about 7000.
  22. Sunderland are overshadowed by us though, and remember they weren't even considered a city until fairly recent times. Leeds I will give you though, I always feared that if the Saudis didn't buy us, they would turn to Leeds next. Massive club historically. Leeds? A massive club historically? Naa. They were only a big club for twenty five years, won nowt before the late sixties.
  23. Naa, this thread is missing the Chronic Town EP (vinyl, original pressing)
  24. I've just woken up from a nap. We been taken over yet? Fables of the Reconstruction.
