i'm enjoying watching this game. couldn't say which way it will go. Interestingly shaktar do pass it really well but tbh its the easiest football to play. martins chances were purely down to himself. The late one was persistence followed by good skill then a good save. The first one was an intelligent run having made an intelligent into feet then sprint, was a moderately tight angle on his weaker foot. was good each time he got the ball but because we have no centre midfield all the ball are coming in from wide and while he can head i believe if you look at most of his goals they come from him having a yard of space around the edge of the box or from being played in behind when a team is not all set up (counter etc). I think the difference between the 2 teams was clear. One had a central midfield, the other didn't fulham have central players who make decisions as to when to play the ball forward and when to play it wide. We play the ball wide a lot but only because we are so limited in the central midfield. Makes it very easy for the opposition. You saw it particularly with duff but simply because nolan and butt weren't moving or making runs when marked and so duff couldn't play it into them. On a sidenote i thought nolan really was woeful today. Caught on the ball numerous times (not losing it but just getting it back to the defence while sliding towards the ground. Bar the martins 1-2 offered nothing going forward either. The way he controls the ball makes him look like a younger version of geremi to me. Really woeful. If we are going to get anything form villa i believe this is the area that has to change. Guthrie is a very good passer and can navigate around people and i would start him in the centre of midfield for sure, bringing lualua in on the right and dropping 1 of the woeful midfield 2. I would say nolan is actually worse than butt which shows the cracking january transfers we conducted. Raylor is shocking as well. Bar the ability to run i struggle to find any other attributes tbh.
