  1. Definitely agree. The PL has to come under some intense government scrutiny as well.
  2. From the sky website: 'PLAYERS HAVE LEGAL RIGHT TO TERMINATE CONTRACTS' Players at the 'Big 6' Premier League clubs have a strong legal case for immediately terminating their contract because their employer signed up to the “illegal” European Super League, according to a top UK sports lawyer. Sean Jones QC, an arbitrator and barrister from 11KBW law firm in London, says that all players’ contracts dictate that their club must stick to FA and Premier League rules, otherwise the club has committed a “repudiatory breach of contract”, and those players could walk away and look for another club. He also says clause 11.1 of UEFA rules allows players to terminate their contract if there is a material breach of terms which, it could be argued, is the case here. Jones was speaking on a special webinar organised by Law In Sport to discuss the legal ramifications of the Super League. He goes on to say that Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea are in clear breach of the Premier League rule L9, which says no club can enter another competition without the written permission of the Premier League Board.
  3. I'm not so sure the boat has sailed. Look at the teams that were driving this: Liverpool, Man U, Real and Juventus. All big clubs that want security in troubled times. All clubs that have overspent and are fearful that without CL money they'll be in the shit. Clubs that were so afraid that they cast their lot with an ill advised, poorly constructed super league that vanished in the blink of an eye. They are not holding any cards at all. Now is the time to hit them. But, care must be given to how hard they are hit. Remember Germany after WWI. Had the sanctions been less prohibitive, there may not have been a WWII. Punish, don't cripple.
  4. Started a tl:dr but decided against it. I appreciate the fans who protested against their own club. However, those clubs need to be punished for this action and clear guidelines established to harshly deal with a club(s) who tries it again. Immediate points deduction and transfer sanctions would be a good start.
  5. Credence has been given to Stavely's claims that the big 6 had undo influence on the takeover. It's now clear to everyone that the Big 6 want to limit their competition. ODT tests need review and there has to be a watchdog to guard against any influence that goes against "one team, one vote"
  6. The "Big Six" should forfeit their TV money for the 21/22 season. The money should be shared amongst all EFL clubs and grassroots football organizations.
  7. was thinking about this. PIF/PCP should offer to buy Man U and when the PL pushes through the ODT they then change their mind and then say "Nah, we want Newcastle!"
  8. Well, PIF will be buying Man U now
  9. I think the 14 remaining PL teams should discuss and vote on sanctions. Charnley would probably vote for a years supply of paper plates and plastic forks, spoons and knives for the club cafeteria.
  10. I think it was the protests. Chelsea and Man City must have really been on the fence. Once Chelsea decided, then Man City and the others saw the writing on the wall.
  11. What a joke. Confederacy of Dunces. Good on the fans of those clubs that protested though.
  12. OK, it's starting to implode. Back to basics then: did that fat cunt sell yet?
  13. OK, so what about match congestion? It's already been an issue. I do agree that CL and EL need a good evaluation but the answers will not come easy. In this case I actually think less is more but that will offend the bean counters.
  14. The Premier League is doing well because a majority of their games are on Saturdays and Sundays. The CL takes place during the week when most of us are working. I can wake up with a cup of coffee on a Saturday or Sunday and watch any number of games across Europe. UEFA is not lazy it just can't compete against it's domestic leagues, nor should it.
  15. As a lifelong Jets fan the draft is infinitely more appealing than their seasons!
  16. I can explain it but I don't agree with it. The regular season IS losing appeal, That is one reason for expanded playoffs: more teams are in a race later in a season which supposedly gives the regular season more meaning. So they manufacture interest to somehow make the regular season more appealing. Of course more teams in playoffs also means more money, let's not forget that. I'm not a good barometer for the American sport fan I suspect. I'm almost 60 and have followed sports all my life (including English football). It is nothing like the sport of my youth and I have become quite cynical...for good reason.
  17. As an American, few of our sports are. The link between club and community is long gone, sad to say.
  18. Even that doesn't always hold true. See: Raiders, Oakland Chargers, San Diego Rams, St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis It's why as I get older I watch less and less. I have my teams I've always rooted for but always watched as many other games as I could. I used to be MLB, NFL, NBA and NCAA crazy. No more. I just watch my teams now. I'm usually good for a few EPL games over the weekend besides Newcastle but that may be changing too. They squeeze every dollar until its no fun anymore. The exec who said it was a business first and not about the good of the game was at least being honest.
  19. Agree. The only reason to stay in the PL would be for the additional revenue, which would likely decline. So, in effect, the Big 6 would treat the PL games like reserves games? It's counter intuitive. If they want to breakaway, let them break away completely and only play in their super league.
  20. This American would rather watch Man City and Burnley. I think they are misreading their markets. Their breakaway league will be unsustainable. A parallel in American sport is the supposed p5 breakaway from the NCAA. Just like this its a short sighted money grab. Let JP Morgan underwrite it. I'll laugh when the US gov't refuses to bail them out when it fails.
  21. I have us at 3 atm. Bruce is so fucking lucky.
  22. If we get taken over I'd love to see us buy him. If its the Ashley and Bruce show I'd hate to see him waste a year of his career. Not that Ashley would buy him anyways.
  23. Like so many of our older players his legs are gone. He has no recovery quickness
