  1. I don't know the exact figure of our losses last season but I know it was higher than £26m as we were paying Owen over £100,000 a week nevermind the rest of the squad. I had no idea we had sold off our catering, so fair enough on that one. I still find it hard to believe that with all the lack of re-investment in the squad, the reception of parachute payments, money from transfers etc. That we are losing that much a week, surely that money went to the club and not too Ashley's back pocket. Or maybe I'm overestimating Ashley.
  2. Seriously read the thread man. Most tickets were season tickets. Those prices were less than last years regardless of how many games. As we are on average about 10k down in attendances the extra matchday sales arent really an issue either. Hospitality packages? Would those be the areas of empty seats knocking about the Milburn and the vacant boxes? TV packages, you are aware how tiny those are in this league arent you? We've rarely had an attendance lower than £35k this season and granted most are season ticket holders, but its not just the ticket is it, the club shop is always rammed on matchdays with massive queues, people also buy programmes, about half the stadium empties at half time for food, drink etc so I can imagine we still make a shed load on matchday. Hospitality encompasses stuff like the platinum club (which was pretty much full when I was in it against Boro, granted it was a local derby) as well as other events they put on at the stadium. Not a huge earner I'd think, but an earner nonetheless. No idea, how much do we get for being on TV in this league? Of course we're in debt, most football clubs are, but £500,000 a week, no way.
  3. Find this very difficult to believe. We've cut the wage bill in half, received parachute payments and plenty of TV revenue this season. Add that to matchday takings, merchandising and hospitality packages then that is a lot of money coming in. Especially considering we play 23 home games instead of 19 this season.
  4. This. Carroll won't be in the clink, will probably get a suspended sentence or community service or both.
  5. Exactly. I can see him letting Butt go in the summer (fingers crossed), however i think he will stick with Smith next season, even if it's merely in a rotation basis. On the other hand, a decent bid for Smith would certainly tempt him and Mr Ashley, due to his sizable wages. I'm certain Hughton will sign some new midfielders in the summer, although it will be younger players like O'Hara, Johnson etc that he will target. O'Hara and Johnson would be excellent signings. I wouldn't mind rotating Smith in the PL as he is battler and we undoubtedly have alot of battling games next year should we go up.
  6. This the fact that he's played Guthrie in the middle when Routledge is fit should make it obvious.
  7. Sorry to hear that mate, I don't have a geordie accent but support the club due to a large majority of my Dad's side being from Newcastle, I've never had any bother about not being from Newcastle. Its a shame that somebody could be so close minded and ignorant as to insult you for not being from Newcastle.
  8. when cole broke the other record was better.... I was in the leazes at the time. Too young to remember that. In general I find most of our fans to be personable and a laugh. Met very few nobheads. sure its a societal thing. people are great when on their own but when with others of their own 'breed' they behave in the way they believe is their rite. i'm sure i've done this recently about americans. Would agree with that, I'm sure most people's personalities change at least a little when the are with people they know or are familiar with.

  10. Only ever been next to miserable fans in the East Stand, Leazes L7 and Gallowgate are always good for atmosphere. Remember being in the Gallowgate when Shearer broke the record, one of the best experiences of my life.

    Our central defence

This. Still need a little bit more depth imo. Taylor can play acrosss the back four if need be, but we still need more cover in every defensive position.
  12. He'll be here for a long time I reckon. I'm not his biggest fan, but if he gets agressive and gets in defenders heads like he did to Morgan against Sheffield United then I reckon he'll be a decent asset in the PL should we go up.
  13. Barton (when fit) for now. We really need to sort out central midfield in summer.
  14. The latter obviously causing the former of course. Agreed. They were going on more about Guthrie feeling wanted because he's always picked. It's a possibility, but it seems like its more obvious that it's him playing in the middle that's doing it. Routledge Guthrie and Jonas aren't bad midfielders even by PL standards. We just need someone to play alongside Guthrie that isn't a fucking liability.
  15. It's the same ref that got Chelsea out of the Champions Leauge last season. (He didn't give one penalty but had to give 4 or so) His performance is awful again... Bayern player was fouled in the penalty area and Gomez scored, but instead of giving the advantage and letting the goal count, he gave the penalty to Bayern. Robben scored from the spot, so I'm still happy. Fifa 09 used to do that all the time/ Really pissed me off That ref is fucking terrible like. That Chelsea Barca game was a disgrace.
  16. Younger brother came in and pronounced its Bayern Munich 1-0 Florentina
  17. When was out last pen? Cant remember Doncaster I think. had a missed pen against us vs them. carrol scored a volley, and nolan a 20yard shot OT. Right you are. Reading then.
