Canny lineup. Howay the lads!
-
Problem is, when we play 4-5-1 long ball away from Home, the whole team is very deep so he's playing very deep as well and we all know he can't get any direction on his flick ons, so he's generally useless in that formation. However, if we attack and play up the field with decent service into the box then he'll score a bagful. Its pretty obvious to point out, but its almost like Hughton knows how to get him playing well but is too stubborn to change his away system.

This. Souness Should have signed him back in January.
-
Cunt, was great to see him stood there like a lemon for Stoke's equaliser today.
-
Damn well better win this. Two home games, have to take full advantage. Harper Simpson Williamson Coloccini Van Aanholt Routledge Guthrie Nolan Jonas (if fit) Carroll Best
-
In all fairness to the man, he brought Best on and it worked. Also its good to have a manager that knows how to celebrate, he went stir crazy when we scored, loved it
-
Erm, I think theres something wrong with the maths there mate I meant he's a thousand times worse.
-
Harper 6 - Not alot to do. Simpson 5 - Struggled. Coloccini 6 - Fairly solid. Hall 6 - See Coloccini Van Aanholt 6 - Looks good going forward and solid most of the time defensively, I'd extend his loan. Routledge 5 - Was ok. A lot better late on when he just ran at people. Guthrie 4 - Not one of his better games, still streets ahead of the other two cloggers in the middle. Smith 3 - Fucking hell man. Lovenkrands 4 - Poor Nolan 2 - Smith x100000 Carroll 5 - At least the one header he got direction on went in the net. Subs Best 6 - Beautiful cross for the goal. Should start imo. Also fuck off with this "terrible point" business, a point away from Home is decent, we didn't play well but we got something out of it. That's what wins you promotion, picking up points when you don't play well. There are 16 games left with a fair amount at Home with most away games against teams from the bottom half. Win the next 2 at Home and things will look very good.

was out playing 5 a side when the match was on. shocked and appalled at the result, I heard he didn't bring a sub on till we were 3 down, fucking terrible if true. move on to saturday and do the double over the other welsh lot please
-
canny result saw the goals on ssn. amazing what happens when we play positively. cracking start to an important month

The dugout comment was from a sentimental standpoint. Just don't even bother mate. 2sheds won't credit Shearer with a single thing, you might as well give up now. Duly noted.

No. His assessment of "the massive overhaul" which was needed to do well this season has proven to be fairly inaccurate as well. How so? It pretty much happened without him anyway. Alot of the fat was trimmed, and if you look at our disaster of a central midfield, I think he's been proven right as it was obvious that was an area that needed and still does need overhauling. If anything he overestimated this league. Same thing tbh. Either way I think he got it wrong, given that we're top. True. Nothing to say that we wouldn't be with him as manager, so a bit of a mute point. More of a sentimental thing for me.

Probably because we were playing Tottenham and Liverpool Away last year. I'm pretty sure a Shearer team Away at Scunthorpe or Leicester would be different. And Stoke and Villa. The Villa game, where we needed to win, still rankles with me now...after being on top for about 20 minutes we sat back and invited them onto us,and once they scored,we had no momentum.I mean, inviting the likes of Ashley Young to attack David Edgar..... Think it may have been more to do with the players heads going down after the goal. We were in it for most of that first half, but think the players didn't want to know after the goal. Depends on your point of view though, I'm a blatant Shearer apologist.

I know I am. Childhood hero, and even though we went down it was great having him back in the dugout. Travesty that he didn't get the job all in all. Think he'd probably be more agressive away from home as well. Anyone else?

we should at least retire the no.9 myth. Aye, we've had some good no 9s but only 2, 3 if you count Supermac who were outstanding wearing that number. Don't know if Hughie Gallagher wore that number or not. nobody wore numbers then. Really? Seems unthinkable when you when you look at all the ridiculous squad numbers they have nowadays. Saw Bendtner wearing 52 for Arsenal yesterday William Gallas is number 10 for them, too. Aye thats daft as well. Geremi's number for Ankaragucu is canny though as someone already mentioned whys it daft. i remember ardiles wearing no.1 in argentina '78 I'm a traditionalist. Should always be GK 1 RB 2 CB 5 CB 6 LB 3 RM 7 CM 4 CM 8 LM 11 CF 9 CF 10 imo anyway. If you were a traditionalist it would look nothing like that. Thats what I've always known as standard. Not going back as far as all the inside left stuff from ages ago. Willing to accept that Keegan wore 7 but that was always his number. Wouldn't be right if he didn't wear it.
