If he's going to play in the 'hole', then he's got to drift between the striker and midfield looking for scraps and chances to link up. But he doesn't, he gets deeper and deeper all game. I'd prefer him to 'play off' Shola or Ranger. It just doesn't seem to work with Carroll, imo.

While he was banging in the goals earlier on this season most of us just bit our tongue and accepted his lack of work (and general ability) due to his compensation of goals. But now his goals have dried up and his lost form, its becoming unbearable to watch him play in the black & white. The amount of times he was caught dallying on the ball today was totally ridiculous- he was out of touch with the rest of the game. Something seriously needs to change.

Carroll can't hold the ball up. What use is he isolated up front on his own then? He MUST, imo, be played alongside someone like Loven or Best. The gap between him and our midfield today was diabolical. How was anyone supposed to play well in such isolation like that? Still, he bailed us out big time today. Saved my weekend from ruin.

We are awful to watch the majority of the time. I thought getting relegated might mean we'd be better to watch against less skilled opponents but no. We had 1 shot on target for the whole game wasn't it? Sky named us 'The Entertainers' under Keegan in the 90's. How about 'The Un-Entertainers', 'The Turgids' or 'The Diabolicals' for this current team? Having said all that, I'm glad we got a point because playing that badly and getting a point is some achievement. I got the distinct impression that if they hadn't scored there's no way we would have tried to. I like that.

Obviously I want us to get promoted- I'll be devastated if we don't- but after watching today it makes me feel sick thinking what could happen to us if we don't heavily invest in our team. Our defence could probably just about hold their own (Simpson, Talys, Colo, Jose), but our midfield will just get dicked all over. And with Hughton as manager it doesn't bode well. I really fear for us next season (should we go up).

I was just thinking there about the time last season I faked an injury to get off playing a match for my football team (I was captain..) to watch the Tyne-Wear derby last season. It got me thinking; what's the biggest sacrifice you've made to follow the Toon? Whether it be on TV or going to the match doesn't matter. Weddings, funerals, school plays.....lets hear 'em boys!

It wouldn't surprise me if we did beat Swansea on Saturday, but I certainly wont hold my breath. I have little optimism going into this but so many teams in this league are overrated- including us and Swansea- which means anything could happen really.

Same with me! Put I started probably a year or two later, but yes, Shearer was the main reason. I had little interest in footy back then, and as a naive young lad saw him and instantly fell in love (with him and NUFC). Been hooked since.
