http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/122060/NEWCASTLE-2-WEST-HAM-2.html I know what a f***ing disgrace, how dare we attempt to strengthen our threadbare squad with an international winger who has more than enough experience at european level. It gets worse, there's talk of a trail, he definitely can't lace Woodgate's boots. What a fine wide man he was.

What a load of old bollocks. Today was a point gained after we went behind, people's expectations are still overly inflated. We're in a relegation battle simple as that, in our position no game is easy. Every point is a point gained.
-
In the end went for Newcastle, Southampton and Forest at around 23/1.
-
A cheeky outside bet if they go ahead: Newcastle to beat West Ham (11-10) Southampton to beat Barnsley (3-1) Derby to beat Cardiff (9-2) Forest to beat Chrlton (17-10) 125/1
-
Going to get on Derby (Cardiff away) at 9/2 and Forest (Charlton away) at 17/10. Corals extra value.

He probably fell over and hit his head, doesn't take much encouragement does he?

Exactly I'm confused as to why people would be pleased with the likes of Butt, Geremi and Shola leaving. I know they aren't brilliant but people don't seem to realise the situation we're in. We're in a relegation battle with a wafer thin squad, how is selling players going to help? It's January, clubs aren't going to be willing to flog as readily as they would in the summer. What if we let the three of them go and we don't get adequate replacements in on time? We'll either end up with no one, or an equally average/poor player. The club is an injury crisis away from deep shit, we need to be adding to the squad not reducing it.

I think it depends on the circumstances of each individual club. Just look at Newcastle for example in the space of six years we've gone from expecting to push on and possibly challenge for the title to expecting to stay up with the vague possibility of a top half finish. This has all happened while the expectation of the likes of Chelsea and less significantly Villa have increased ten fold due to significant financial injections. Every fan around the world has a set of expectations for their club depending on the circumstances surrounding it. As those circumstances change so do expectations. All fans have unrealistic hopes and dreams for their club but that’s exactly what they are: dreams. People always have and always will have expectation of their club whether it's from staying up to winning the title. Depending on the circumstances surrounding their club these circumstances will change. However have football expectations changed generally? It really is too vague a question to answer, there's just so many positions you could look at it from.

Sky Sports News claiming Everton are after Alan Smith on loan.

Yes not give our worst player a new THREE year contract. He's not THAT bad. Kinnear has got him playing to a half decent standard and like I say yes he's nothing special but for a forth choice striker he'll do for the time being. We have other positions which are in far greater need of strengthening than worrying about the striking department.
-
I have to ask why are people are complaining? No he's not a world beater in fact he's probably a Championship striker at best but could we of done anything else? Our squad is desperately thin and the last thing we need is people leaving on a free. We have enough positions to cover on the shopping list without adding a forth choice striker to it. With Viduka constantly on the sidelines and Xisco out of favour we need cover, Shola isn't ideal but he'll do for the time being.

Think my heads still in the shed, time for another coffee.

Foluwashola Ameobi http://img.skysports.com/08/01/218x298/Shola_Ameobi_626164.jpg Today we strengthened our striking options with the ambitious signing of the former England under 21 international on a three year deal. His skill, strength and clinical finishing should be enough to lift us out of the relegation dogfight. The 27 year old will retain the number 23 shirt. Surely this signals the intent of both Ashley and Kinnear.

I'd rather Arteta, a good player who doesnt whore himself about despite his massive talent! Two different players really. Arteta tends to be deployed out wide in the play maker role providing quality for the strikers. Arshavin tends to play just off the striker in the "the hole" and probably has an all round better game than Arteta. Arsenal would be better off chasing defensive players rather than trying to add to an already more than competent attack.
-
Oh dear. We badly need a bit of pace up front. Someone like Obinna or Saviola on loan until the end of the season would be ideal.

I have to admit I'd prefer to play full back. Ah well, Venkman your going down.
