You could see that coming. Poor guy. Thought the ref did well right up until blowing bang on 6 mins, which was a bit of a pisstake.

Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition
leffe186 replied to OzzieMandias's topic in Football
This, this is the shit I love about these tournaments. I will never forget Euro 96 cos we played footy every night after work on Regents Park and fans from all over Europe would join in, then come with us to the pub after. God I miss those days. -
Yeah, got that feeling too.

I'm really looking forward to this group, which means it will probably end up being a really dull procession for Argentina.

It is but think people are overrrating Japan a bit. Don't see how they're even close to the other sides. Expect Colombia to win it and Senegal to squeeze through as 2nd placed. Kamil Gliks injury is going to cost Poland from advancing. Think Colombia are a dark horse for the whole thing. There's not one team they can't beat on a good day. Good offensive players in James, Cuadrado, Falcao, Bacca and Muriel a long with a lot of steel defensively and in midfield. Extremely physical side. Yeah Colombia are certainly a threat. I think Poland will nibble second behind Colombia, but it will be tight IMO. I like Colombia to go far. On paper Senegal's team looks strong going forward but a bit lightweight at the back - has anyone watched much of them?

Really feels like an easy group for Brazil.

Go on Son. Fully expecting South Korea to have a really disappointing World Cup, sadly. It's nice to be reminded that Seb Larsson plays for Sweden so I have a reason to root against them. If Korea don't get through, hope it's Mexico.

Not looking forward to this at all . The one consolation is that they're up against two Spurs guys when they get lamped. Honestly, I'd take a point as a great result.

Was actually expecting this to be a Butt like moment, honestly can't remember that. Not even a yellow. Aye. Pretty funny. I assume the Tunisians didn't even make a big fuss trying to get him sent off or booking. "Flykicked in the face but it was an honest attempt". That's a straight red now. Makes me wonder how many goals and achievements the likes of Maradona would rack up now. He must've been kicked up and down Italy week-in-week-out. Also puts into perspective some of the shite PFM's in the media come out with. These are people that were professionals in the game when stuff like this wasn't even a yellow. Then you're asked to make comments about Mesut fucking Ozil. I have often wondered how good Ossie Ardiles would have been in today's game. He would routinely get kicked all round the park by everybody - I will always remember Gerry Gow kicking him up in the air in the opening seconds of the Cup Final, with a tackle that would be a routine red card nowadays. Likewise, some of the treatment Pele got was ludicrous in today's context. I reckon Ardiles would have been comfortably better than Modric, for example.

Here’s my thing. I grew up in Palmers Green, North London, and my Dad supported Spurs, so I support Spurs. I grew up in England, and my Dad is English, so I support England. I might have hated many things about England over the years, but I always want them to win every game, even if Carlton fucking Palmer is playing center-mid or that terrible Bolton forward whose name escapes me is up front, or that utter cunt Terry is at the back. I have fallen out of love with football in so many ways, and FIFA are evil, but fuck it. Arrivederci, it’s one on one.

...like the Confederacy flags scattered around every state. Flags are far more commonly used in the US than in the UK, though. It's typical for somebody who is/was in the Forces to fly the relevant flag along with the Stars and Stripes. Occasionally I remind myself to get a Union flag to fly along with our US flag, but it clearly doesn't matter all that much to me as I've been here nearly ten years without one. We used to fly an Australian flag, but we rarely fly our England flag as it has "Aston Villa" across the middle. My wife sometimes tries to sneak it up without me noticing. confederacy flags are not scattered around every state at all its only the south and even here in the south it's only the redneck crew. you'll never get a northerner fly the confederation flag He lives in Ohio, bet there are a few over there... Probably in filthy Western PA too. Yup. "It's only the South" is demonstrably untrue, sadly - I saw a couple last week flying not far from where I live, no doubt raised by people who abhor NFL players who kneel during the anthem for "disrespecting the flag". Those "Don't Tread On Me" flags seem to have drifted a little bit out of fashion, mind.

I'm looking forward to watching us, but will be absolutely terrified when anyone half-decent is running at our centrebacks.
-
Man Utd finished above us comfortably last season. Chelsea have won two of the last four premier leagues. Their players appear to have a switch which they can turn on and win the league. Way too early to make that statement. You’ll not have met Kaka before, I take it?

It’s a fucking Glasgow Rangers shirt . Please tell me you guys know the reason why it’s on there?

We'll see if this pokerface lasts until deadline day. He's their most saleable asset and they've just run out of parachute payments. Don’t they still have another year? Genuine question.

If this was an eye in the storm of signing players you'd have a point. The calm before the calm.

Looking at that list, I'm not sure if I's rather be in pot 2 or pot 3 tbh . One thing I did take from last night was that we (Spurs) actually stood a chance of winning the thing this year with a bit more luck and nous (and if our form didn't vanish at the wrong time). That's both good and bad - good because we're not out of place, and bad because we might have missed a great opportunity. Once again though, that fucking Bale goal. I don't think that will ever get old.
-
Well that was absolutely fucking mint .

We taught him everything he knows.

Thanks! Been steeling myself for the worst case scenario today, and the reminder of that Gerrard moment might get me through.
-
To be fair, arguably their best team ever didn’t have blue sleeves.
-
I believe the answer is currently Man City.

I don't mind this, actually. I mean, 80K a week is a joke, but in my fantasy career I always insist on a "will not play against Tottenham Hotspur" clause .
