Apparently he doesn't completely see eye-to-eye with Keane, and that has fueled the link that Ipswich will try to cash in on him. While he suits our 'model' he is probably a bit too expensive at the moment and is not really the player we need right now.

Pardew's comments suggest that we are going to sign backups to the likes of Shola and Gutierrez, rather than actively trying to improve on them. We have a reasonably deep squad, the problem is that this squad depth is mainly comprised of players who are not completely up to it at this level, adding more of these types of players (which is what those quotes appear to suggest) just seems pointless to me. I'd rather we bought one good striker than 3 Championship players to further pad our squad with rubbish. Rather than replacing squad players we should be relegating some of the current starters to backup players. That's how it normally works when teams want to improve.
