There was a time when Arsenal had absolutely loads of ambiguous, dribbling, creative attacking midfielders who were good in possession and could play anywhere in a 4-2-3-1. There's absolutely no chance Gouffran is getting a new contract, man.

He's only had a poor season relative to expectations of his ability level, and in some games he's fell way below what he can do. Objectively he's been one of our highest contributing players statistically.

I normally agree that relegations can be a necessary evil if it helps teams clear the decks and rebuild. But going out of the Football League is truly a nightmare. Since the professionalization of non-league the top end National League sides are stronger than the bottom half League Two teams, and you always have a couple of well-backed clubs making their way up the League system. With only 1 direct place to go up (compared to 3 in League Two for example), it can be extremely difficult to get out of. Luton are a much bigger club than Pools and they were stuck down half a decade.
