Definitely. nesta was the "classier" player i agree but cannavaro was equally as effective a CB and he did it for much, much longer at the highest level Aye, Cannavaro had the traits of the mag whereas Nesta represented the classy, socialist ideals of mackemdom.

Javi Martinez is apparently quite close to Bayern. Wants to go there instead of Barca/Madrid because they want to play him at DM rather than CB. Him and Schweinsteiger is a pretty awesome midfield.

Rivaldo was mint but closer to Cronaldo in style. Selfish, keep trying stuff until it comes off kind of thing. Mint player though.

I don't necessarily agree but he has a point. Madrid and Juve both won more without him.

The two things that Messi/Ronaldo have is that natural dribbling ability with the ball at their feet and the footballing brain/vision to pass and create for others. That's why I put them both ahead of him. Cronaldo is arguably the complete forward, but he's not the complete footballer.

Just going off watching them as players really. The stats are impressive but too much is placed in them. In terms of pure devastating ability I don't think anybody comes close to those two, not even Zidane and not Cristiano.

Messi and R9 are the two best players I've seen and are a fair bit ahead of anybody else.

The other thing I'd say about Spain. Without Puyol and Pique off form their CBs look a bit soft, and the fullback positions are equally dodgy (Alba is basically a winger and Arbeloa generally looks like he's not quite good enough for the company he's in). They are not weak defensively by any means but it is slightly frail. By maximising the amount of possession they have, limiting the transitions of play, push the opposition back and press the ball immediately when they lose it they can limit the amount of times the defence is placed under genuine pressure. In a way it is playing to their strengths to cover their weaknesses.

I agree in general that they are too negative under VdB considering the personnel but France were far, far more to blame for the spectacle today. They played with 2 RBs on one side of the pitch, 3 midfielders who were sitting defensively and only Ribery/Benzema who were in the opposition half. They showed absolutely no ambition to try and win the game and made it easy for Spain.
