Exactly. I'm intrigued to know how the dynamic works in other countries. Doesn't matter so much in Brazil and Argentina mind, since they mostly play abroad. I've always thought there was something in that mind - our players hardly ever playing abroad. Although Italy are arguably pretty similar.

I've read a few things on various forums today, since the game ended, talking about why the national side is so fucked up, but this is the most pointed and spot on post I've seen on the subject. Agree with billytray too, he's absolutely right. It's a half arsed way of 'improving' the league and ignoring the fundamental problems. The FA and the Premier League aren't on the same side either, which doesn't help.

I'd get rid tbh. I'm not normally so harsh, but: - He doesn't seem to think owt's wrong at the moment, and he's bang wrong. - Football's too dull and functional. Doesn't inspire confidence in English players or fans. - Seems too much of a disciplinarian for our soft-cunt players. - Hasn't added anything new to our approach imo. Playing Gerrard out on the left wing in a 442. STILL. Surely we should be playing the 451 / 433 that Chelsea used so effectively a few years ago. That's what Mourinho would be doing, no doubt about it.
