I'm at Citadel Festival on the day of the WC Final, was going to potentially either give the gig a miss or turn up late to catch the headliners which would be annoying as I'd miss Shame, The Horrors etc. Anyway they sent a message out yesterday saying they are showing it on a big screen regardless of who is playing, which is class as that'll be a mint atmosphere especially if England are playing (apologies for the arrogance). Still a few tickets left for it for anyone London based. Tame Impala, CHVRCHES etc.

I really don't fancy Brazil to get to the final for some reason. If Belgium don't do them, which is quite likely if Martinez changes it to match them in midfield imo, then France or Uruguay will.

Well of-course the US didn't even qualify, so it would be the lowest grade possible. Honestly you're 100 percent going to the Final and you won't have played a single decent game. It's absolutely fucking sickening. You're going to shitfest a World Cup and act like you were good. It'll ruin the sport. Wtf is this bullshit? Fuck off you've been terrible for four games and you're cruising to 2nd at least. Actually glad there's gonna be 100 teams at the next one. Prevent this from happening, hopefully. That happens all the time though, quite often a team squeaks through to the final without being particularly impressive. Saying that, we played some great stuff against Tunisia first half and dealt out the biggest hammering so far to Panama. Not great sides but that's who we played. Belgium doesn't count but agree last night was an ugly and tense performance. I do think/hope we blow away the Swedes the next game to put this to rest. Not dissing Sweden but we'll surely play without fear more than any game in our recent history, given what happened last time. Fancy us to play a hell of a lot better than last night anyway. I thought you played without fear last night until you scored anyway. The creativity just wasn't there. I hate this Swedish team but they're a very tough nut to crank Colombia sat back all first half and it was a cagey 0-0 like many of the other last 16 first halves. England aren't Man City or owt but we've got a lot more going forward than that last night.

The first half was always likely to be tight then after Kane's goal around 55 minutes we were too cautious and stopped trying to make anything happen. The first half of ET we were shell-shocked and couldn't kick the ball straight, then the 2nd half we snapped out of it and started creating openings. We also created plenty of chances in our opening 2 games, albeit against poor opposition. Hardly think last night's game is the fairest time to judge our ability to create chances when we spent 45 minutes feeling out the opposition, 30-odd minutes over cautiously defending a lead and 15 minutes recovering from the setback of an equaliser. The second half of extra time was miles better in terms of our attacking, I was annoyed at us inviting so much pressure before that. I hope Southgate and the team have learnt that going 1-0 up against decent opposition doesn't have to mean we sit back and try to spoil the game. The match last night is a massive monkey off our backs in more ways than one and I think we'll see a more confident and bold performance versus Sweden.

I was more of the view that we decided to sit on the lead and found it hard to snap out of that going into extra time. When we went for it again in the last 15 of ET we created chances. The first half of normal time was always likely to be tight, as most of the other games have been. I don't think we should go that defensive when leading again, it almost worked but you have to give yourself a chance of catching them on the break. I'm very positive about the quarter final like, you'd imagine our players will be bouncing now and the pen thing is a massive monkey off our back too. Nothing to fear now. We still created sod all in ET, we were better but ospina had f*** all to do all game. We created chances the second half of ET, Rose and Dier and a few other half openings. It was loads better but it annoyed me we'd gone 45 minutes before that playing it safe as it was difficult to snap out of. Dier chance was from a set-piece, so wasn't from open play as Greg said. Yes, rose was decent chance but again we didn't test the GK. 2 chances isn't loads as well. 2 chances is plenty in 15 minutes, I'm saying we sat back for 45 minutes before that.
