Very disappointed with him last night, he just needs to learn when to use the ball. That said, I did think a couple of times people gave him the ball in awful positions hoping he was going to weave his way between players, so it was inevitable he was going to lose it at times. I do think with a longer run in the team we will really see the best of him, but I just can't see where he fits into Pardew's philosophy, especially now Cisse has been brought in to inevitably partner Ba!

The only reason he's still in the team seems to be the fact Pardew likes him defending set pieces. Its been such a long time since I remember being able to say "Shola played his heart out today", he just never looks fucking interested. It was embarrassing that he played a full game yesterday, but hopefully with Ba and Cisse back we won't have to suffer him for more than 10-15 minutes at the end of a game in the future.

We managed to win that match? Surely not?

Any benefit in playing something like: Krul Simpson Williamson King Colo Santon Guthrie Jonas Obertan Big Ben Best Strolla Slightly apprehensive at Best being played wide left, but I thought Jonas played really well in the centre the other week so he could potentially move out wide and allow Best to run off Strolla when he can be bothered to move/win a header/not fall over/stay onside

Playing a stupidly high line makes the game much harder for Williamson, he doesn't have the pace to get back and his composure doesn't seem the best. People saying that Perch is better than ANYONE in our squad is laughable.

I thought Elia looked class in the last world cup but haven't really followed him since he went to Juve; for the right price surely the move would be a no brainer and add some welcome depth? That said, a centre back has to be our priority regardless!

Its not even a case of people making Shola a scapegoat, he is just genuinely not good enough to play Premiership football. Most of the time he just ambles around the pitch looking uninterested, even when the ball is within 5 yards of him. His lack of anticipation and willingness to get back onside yesterday was an absolute disgrace; I'm by no means a big fan of Best, but he worked his bollocks off yesterday (even staying onside consistantly for a change!), only to be taken off to leave Shola on to waddle around and occasionally defend a set piece (if he managed to "run" back in time). Yesterdays game proved exactly why we need a new striker (or strikers), and if Pardew/Ashley are happy to try and scrape our way through Jan/Feb until Demba returns to avoid spending money then it just shows how little ambition we really have.

I think today's game shows us how desperately lacking we our up front. The fact that we only currently have 2 fit (well 1 fit and 1 shola) strikers and no one to come on from the bench is a terrifying thought.
