  1. Have to say I can find it frustrating when possession breaks down around him sometimes, because of a weak cross or shot. But he does have excellent qualities. As others have said - his professionalism, comittment, workrate and dribbling skills are second to none and make him a wonderful team player. Surprised (though delighted) with the new contract as I saw him being phased out of the first team by Marveaux over the next couple of months and a prime candidate to be sold. But this doesn't look like that at all, and maybe it's a sign that there really is some squad building going on here. If Colo signs as well, it will be all positive.

    Alan Pardew

He cares about how the club is DOING, because that's his job. That's good enough for me, but I don't believe for a second he has any kind of sentimental attachment to the place like. I think he talks about the club well. And the fact he's got Carver and Stone in there means he's trying to maintain a thread of something at the heart of the club, and in direct contact with the players, which he feels is important. I respect that.

    Alan Pardew

I'm convinced Pardew really does care about the club, unlike the two jokers he works for. That's the main thing for me. And I've got respect for how he keeps positive when it must be really difficult to do so. On the pitch he's doing well also. He's organised the defence, and brought in pace and technique going forward which we were lacking - so he's doing a good job there for me. He must be extremely frustrated today that he wasn't properly backed by some basic competence in getting in the defensive cover and striker he/we so obviously needed. But he'll have to put a brave face on it, that's part of his job.

    Bryan Ruiz

Basically wouldn't blame him if true. Must be clear to him he was nowhere near our first choice. At this late stage he has probably not even met anyone from the club.
  5. Ridgwell would be excellent for what we need.
  6. Either Ruiz or Bendtner will do me. Come on Derek ffs!
  7. It is the Mail, but... Newcastle closing in on £10m Cisse deal as Maiga deal hits a snag By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 11:34 PM on 30th August 2011 Newcastle are trying to tie up a £10million move for Freiburg's Papiss Cisse. Manager Alan Pardew switched his attention to the Senegal striker after being held up in his bid to sign Sochaux's Modibo Maiga, with the French club insisting on finding a replacement before they allow the Mali international to leave. Cisse, 26, had been a target for Sunderland until they concentrated their efforts on Spurs' Peter Crouch. Newcastle fans are desperate to see a top striker in their No 9 shirt and Cisse seems the ideal candidate with 31 goals in 52 games in Germany. Should the deal hit problems, Pardew has lined up a £5m move for Marvin Ogunjimi. The Genk forward has also interested Fulham, but they were last night closing on a loan deal for Marseille's Andre Pierre Gignac and a £12.5m deal for FC Twente's Bryan Ruiz. 8. Expecting one last throw of the dice on this tomorrow.
  9. Kid's obviously extremely talented. He just needs a bit of care. The team spirit will help greatly. And it sounds like Pardew spends a lot of time with the defence, so he'll get plenty of attention on the training pitch. Looking forward to seeing him.
  10. Auclair on Talksport. He wasn't given time to get onto this story but did say Socheaux have big financial problems!
  11. Good luck to the lad. He must be in dreamland. It's a big step up, so hope Pardew and Goodman have got it right and he's up to it when the call comes.
  12. Seems clear we've reached the last name on the striker list handed over by Carr and Pardew. Great job Derek...
  13. Pleased to get anyone in, but looking at the clips - just from his balance and the way he runs with the ball he looks a real class footballer, particularly going forward. Defensively, good at jockying and nicking the ball also. Plenty of potential there to build on, anyway.
  14. Can see this one happening. Accompanied with talk about looking again in the next window.... Would signal a complete and undeniable failure.
  15. Simpson only central defence cover. Ridiculous really.
  16. Be interesting to see how things develop at QPR. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a softer ride from the southern media now he's joined a London club.
  17. Hope it works out for him. Think there must be some sadness there on his part - he won't ever have a bigger stage. Wouldn't be surprised if eventually he looked back on last season as the most enjoyable of his career. Whatever else, he always gave his all on the pitch. And he undoubtedly helped to galvernize the club during the championship season. Think I'll always be grateful to him for that.
  18. Could see a relegation release clause being a major sticking/negotiation point. The fact that they're meeting again looks like it's all about the contract now, otherwise he would have woke up this morning knowing he didn't want to go. As it's gone this far, am expecting them to bend to his demands and him being off.
  19. The Sun..... Erik Pieters all set for Newcastle move ALAN PARDEW has finally landed long-term target Erik Pieters. And the busy Toon boss also hopes to seal a £7million deal for French striker Nolan Roux. Dutch ace Pieters is set to seal a £6.8m move from PSV Eindhoven within 48 hours. The left-back, 23, will sign a five-year deal and replaces Jose Enrique who left for Liverpool. France Under-21 forward Roux has notched 21 goals in 62 games for Brest.

    Dan Gosling

Felt a bit sorry for him tonight. He tried hard and not much came off for him. It's been a long way back for him, he needs time.
  21. Sheer class. Has played like he belongs from the first minute. Superb attitude. Think he must be really happy here.
  22. Looking like it's all a bit much for him, at the moment. Hope he pulls through, needs to find it mentally.
  23. Looking potentially a great keeper. Was not completely sure before, but well impressed tonight. And he can only get better.

    Sammy Ameobi

Exciting seeing him tonight, has bags of potential.
