Really good post. I think you’re spot on with the chanting. People really don’t know anything other than a songbook of 6 songs. So so so many from the 90s-2010s seem to have disappeared/locked out. Fair enough, we made our bed. But something needs to change. My hand is fucking killing today as I kept banging the back wall trying to generate some atmosphere in the Leazes East Corner - which is basically around 10-20 lads on the back row attempting to generate an atmosphere. Generally, it does work and we can get some change going. But you better believe it can only be ‘Eddie Howe’s Black and White Army’ as anything else leaves people bemused who clearly don’t know the words. The amount of people streaming out the ground from the 80th minute, with a cup final on the horizon was just baffling. Yet, as a member, I of course aren’t as important as other fans apparently. Get to fuck quite frankly.

The Strawberry Corner, as good as it is in there, just isn’t big enough to A) accommodate those that want to sing and stand B) big enough to generate enough noise for the rest of the stadium. I’d honestly be suggesting two 5,000 person standing areas at either end of the ground.

I wonder how many would want to stand. What if it was 10,000?

After the ticket issues for the cup final, I’m looking forward to the season ticket fume when some people are asked to move to create a safe standing section. I sincerely hope it’s bigger than just the Strawberry Corner, as that is already effectively at capacity and has more that sit then don’t.

He did win the Ballon D’or twice. Played for and managed the club (twice) managed England. Played for Liverpool, Southampton and Hamburg. We’ve got a squad with a fair few Geordies in, as well as back room staff such as Jones, Dawson etc. Derek Wright only retired last year. I’m pretty sure the players be aware of who he is…

Listened to the Atheltic podcast. Got quite teary during the final episode as SBR described his cancer and treatment etc. As a young man of 15, when he died, I thought 76 was so old. It really isn’t, is it? So sad really.

Eurgh. This has brought up so many bad memories man. Still not sure I’ve ever fully recovered from this era as a fan. I still only feel about 85-90% of what I used to.

Been in there a few times. Bizarre experience tbh. Mad busy bar, loads of blokes going since the 90s. Walk through to your seat and then you sit in silence for the rest of the game. But yeah, Old Milburn Entrance to the side. Can’t miss it.
