  1. What would prevent them from paying, say, 100m for a shirt sponsorship and avoid these provisions?
  2. About 20k a game I think, which isn't bad when you ask the question of how many urn out for American sports over here. Average last season was 16k. Although the newer teams like Sounders and Toronto did far more than that.
  3. Roma has been decent this year, had some very lucky results though. Ranieri has really done the works, Juventus really did them self a favor there Think it will end up in a draw though with the possibility of Inter winning the game bigger then Roma. Eto'o and Milito will get one each, De Rossi for Roma. 2-1 Inter FT For all the stick he seems to get everywhere he has been, Ranieri always goes to his business pretty decently I think.
  4. Jesus wept, they want more from the fans! Season tickets, shirts, corproate hospitally, weddings, credit cards etc....now broadband and telephone lines. What next car manufacturing..."hey what do you drive?"..."I drive the New NUFC XR3i Milburn" I still wonder why it hasn't happened yet. Granted clubs in stripes would look awful, but get a red BMW, stick a ManU badge in it. Watch as you sell 100,000 of those in Singapore.
  5. Sadly, I think in the long run they'll address that in the NFL way. A million teams spread around all the possible markets and an unbalanced schedule. Incidentally, is it this season the first time that MLS will run a balanced schedule?
  6. And they are getting rid of the arch above the main stand, which is one of the icons of the city landscape if you ask me, easily seen when you walk following the river. http://ketari.nirudia.com/photos/normal/ketari-20091111133645.jpg
  7. Don't think it will ever happen. There's no tradition of it in yank sports, and owners would run foul because of the financial insecurity. College sports and minor leagues have filled the hole that lower divisions occupy in Europe. Since your hometown is unlikely to have a top team, you follow your uni's team.
  8. Aye, a shame that they are moving instead of renovating it, that place is one of the oldest pitches in Spain. So much history and tradition. It's not called "The Cathedral of Football" for nowt. Not quite in the same league but always reminds me of WHL, double tiered stands right on top of the pitch. What a football ground should be. This is a slightly shabby 3d model of the new place. Sadly it looks like the stands are quite further away from the pitch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMvV1v3aiOw&feature=related
  9. Aye, a shame that they are moving instead of renovating it, that place is one of the oldest pitches in Spain. So much history and tradition. It's not called "The Cathedral of Football" for nowt. It's a weird move though, since the new stadium is just a few meters away from the old one (like the Giants did here with the new Giants stadium), but it will be much more modern and accessible.
  10. Larsson was so fucking brilliant in that final. Won it for us tbh. http://www.forums.govteen.com/images/smilies/kate/YesYourMajesty.gif
  11. Yeah, he kind of did sod all for us except *that* goal, which is enough! Never understood why we sold Van Bommel, he is a great player. He kind of wanted out though, so I guess it had to be done.
  12. Xavi's passing range and general metronome style of play is so important to the way you play. I actually find it interesting because I was looking at the 06 Champions League final the other day and the midfield was Deco-Edmilson-Van Bommell. I can't even imagine Barcelona without Xavi for some reason,he seems to embody everything about Barca and their style of play. Was he not as much of a key player that season? Or is there another reason why he didn't play? He was injuried. He indeed was key on Rijkaard's team. He was the one that moved Xavi from a deep-lying playmaker position in Guardiola's mould to the more advanced one he plays now, which is where he has flourished.
  13. I love badges on my kits though, give them a je ne sais quoi of coolness. Love the yank flag on the MLS ones.
  14. I think we greatly improved in the second half against Osasuna to be honest. But we are very hit and miss indeed. Xavi seems to be progressing nicely and could be back against Mallorca.
  15. I have to get myself up to speed with all the USL/NASL shenanigans. There was a big mess and I don't really know what's the second tier in the US anymore.
  16. Atlético always bottle it against Real. They haven't won a match against them since 1999. Mallorca's home form is impressive, and our form is shaky. More than shaky it's patchy. We were terrible in the first half against Osasuna yet we were great during the second, going through their defence like butter like the Barça of last year. We'll see what Barça turns up...
  17. That's the thing, he's shite nowadays yet he's been carrying NYRB for a couple seasons. Regarding shirts... http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/new-york-red-bulls.jpg  I really try to support New York, but it's so fucking hard.
  18. I must say the chorus is stuck on my head.
  19. Some pretty decent atmosphere on that Philadelphia game. Hope they keep it up the whole season
  20. I have really really tried to get more involved with MLS since I moved here, and failed repeatedly. The fact NYRB are embarrassing doesn't help. It's not the fact they are truly awful, but the whole brand image and marketing that surrounds the club makes me cringe. Will check the new stadium, the Giants one was a horrible, horrible place to play football and a big turnoff to go to games. I should just defect to the Phunions, their shirts rock.
  21. Luís Aragonés has finally refused Sevilla's offer and Antonio Álvarez (former assistant of their former manager) will be interim manager.
  22. I have discovered that after seeing this I want them to stay up in the league, I was even happy when they won their last game :-[
  23. Ended 2-4. Most amusing thing is that this means that Real have one more year failed to score in the south end goal, where they have never, never scored. It's the only goal in the entire division (apart from Xerez's north end, but it's their first year in the division) where they have never scored.
  24. That's great, so long as you're living your life on the basis of a load of fiction written 2000 years ago. Fortunately, most of us manage not to. I remember the racism you used to get in football in the 1980s and before, and one of the things we should be proudest of in this country is that racism, compared to countries like Spain and Italy, is not an issue in football. We should be really proud of that. Hopefully, homophobia will go the same way. I can only just begin to imagine how knuckle-draggingly dim the people who sing "Upson takes it up the arse" or who thought Graeme Le Saux MUST be gay because he reads newspapers must be. Why anyone would want to associate themselves with that kind of unevolved pond life is beyond me. It's got a lot better to be honest, particularly since clubs started to be less tolerant of their more extremist hooligan groups. The way boards usually cuddled up with thugs like Boixos Nois or Ultras Sur was a disgrace.
  25. Yank rules football, but I'll put this one anyway http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=92766&season=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncf%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d92766%26season%3d2010
