  1. Wallsendmag

    In memoriam

Met him a few years ago when we were in a hospitality suite at Aberdeen. Absolutely top bloke who made time to speak to everyone.
  2. Fans in the lower tiers get soaked as well because the roof doesn't protect from the elements.
  3. 70k would be the sweet spot for me. Would move us above West Ham and behind Old Trafford as the 2nd biggest stadium in the UK. Would still be full every week as well. If we were building a new stadium that would be an ideal capacity. However I'd also be happy with staying at SJP if we could redevelop the Gallowgate and East Stands to maybe get us up to 65k or thereabouts.
  4. Ibrox is a fantastic stadium. Looking forward to going up there next month. I have no real feelings for Rangers one way or the other, but Ibrox is probably my favourite stadium in the UK. They can create a noise that's unmatched anywhere in Britain and, whilst the fans are very passionate, that's partly down to the stadium design.
  5. Another belter from their site. Casual racism really is rife on there; "I was at Twickenham to see depeche mode and never saw any scumbags there then went to see muse at Huddersfield and sadly saw a darkie with a scum holdall but no tops but on way home called in at Wetherby services and saw an old lady sitting by herself having a coffee with a safc top on".
  6. West Ham up to 66k now.
  7. It looks horrible from the outside. Inside, the concourse area is cramped, toilets barely fit for purpose and the seating area is also too cramped and it takes ages to get out at full time. The whole stand needs a revamp. It was built in the early 70s and is massively dated now.
  8. I'll always have loads of time for him. An integral part of that team that got us back up to the PL and whilst a few players have called Bruce out after his departure, he was the one player who called him out for what he was whilst he was still here. Plus he's meant to be class for the dressing room.
  9. Their cumulative losses over the past 15/20 years must be astronomical so it probably isn't sustainable but I'd always champion the case for affordable football for all, so fair play to them for that. One thing I would say is that their prices are a direct consequence of building a stadium too big for their fanbase to fulfil Bob Murrays dream about having a bigger stadium than Newcastle. If they were charging prices similar to Sheff Wed, Leeds, Boro etc (ie similarly sized clubs to them in their league) they would be getting 25/30k at most.
  10. There's loads of reasons a club may or not sign a player. Wages tend to be a big stumbling block for Championship clubs as a lot of them currently operate at a very unhealthy wages/turnover ratio and he'll be on fairly big money here coming in on a free so would depend if he's prepared to take a pay cut or sit on his current contract for it's final year. You're making Sunderland out to be some sort of World beaters when they scraped into the final play off place of the worst Championship in years and the bookies have them down as 10th favourites to win the league next season. They certainly aren't too good for Jeff Hendrick. Obviously he won't end up there as he doesn't fit their transfer strategy of signing young players they can move on at a profit.
  11. Count again please. And how is that even relevant? As I said there's been times on here when plenty of people have disagreed with me but that doesn't mean I'm automatically wrong. You seem to be struggling with the concept that just because someone holds a different opinion to yourself it doesn't mean that they're wrong. Until you can grasp that, a forum that exists on people's opinions probably isn't for you. I haven't got a clue where he'll end up next season and frankly I don't care. The Championship would be my guess. That's his level. That is also the level Sunderland will be playing at. Plenty of people on here believed Sunderland had their chance of promotion last season and blew it so are clearly expecting a lower/mid table finish for them next year.
  12. Point still stands. All about opinions. I'll always back my own.
  13. Easily. Never known such a buzz around the place as there is now. We went into town on Saturday. Parked at SJP. The amount of people just milling around in their replica shirts was unbelievable. Shearer's was packed. Loads sat outside in their new shirts. Club shop absolutely mobbed. Walking around town I couldn't believe how many people there were going around in NUFC clobber. Wor lass even commented that it was like a home game! Literally everyone wants to be part of it. It's brilliant!
  14. Think the club said "just over 30k season ticket holders" when pressed back in February when deciding on how to allocate Cup Final tickets.
  15. And plenty agreeing with me. Like I said before most on here disagreed with me when I said Vurnon Anita wasn't very good, so I'd take that with a pinch of salt anyway. It's fine though. Football is a game of opinions. You have yours and I have mine. My opinion is that he's nowhere near good enough for the PL but good enough for the vast majority of Championship clubs, such is the huge gulf in quality between the 2 leagues.
  16. 09 must have played nigh on 200 games for them in the last few years and the kid is worse than shite bless him. That's the level they are currently operating at.
  17. There's no better set of fans than Sunderlands for bigging up absolutely bang average players and making them out to be far better than they actually are. Think a few on here have fallen for the hype. Ultimately they sneaked into the Play Offs of the worst Championship in years on the last day courtesy of Preston being on the beach and Millwall collapsing and even then that was largely to do with a player who wasn't even theres!
  18. No I think he's shite
  19. With all due respect to many people on here I'd back my opinion against most. On the subject of rating midfielders, I still think back to the many hours I wasted trying to tell people that Vurnon Anita was actually no good when most people disagreed with me Not saying Jeff Hendrick is a world beater as he isn't. But he's made a career out of getting into better teams than Sunderland currently are.
  20. Sheff Utd finished top 2. Did you watch much of them last season? They were so, so poor. As I said back in September. The standard of that league was truely abysmal last season.
  21. There's loads of ways of defining how good a player actually is. Your average Sunderland fan thinks that players like Cattermole and Kevin Ball are good footballers because they can go round kicking lumps out of people. I don't. I'll never let a Sunderland fan lecture me about anything football related because more often than not they are clueless and have a history of overhyping bang average players just because they play for them. Hendrick walks into your team. End of.
  22. I'm not saying he's particularly good but he's more than good enough for the vast majority of Championship teams. Look at the teams that were up the top last year. Sheff Utd, Luton, Coventry, Sunderland, Preston, Millwall etc. In years gone by teams with the quality of players they have wouldn't have got close to being promoted. It was such a weak league. I do think it'll be stronger next season though.
