I went to all the Anglo Italian Cup games. I was one of the 4,609 at SJP for the Cesena match. That's case closed.

Because that would be to the detriment of the atmosphere and that is one of the things that attracted them to the club. The unique fanbase it has. Aside from that you need to have a certain amount of family seating and thirdly the NE is not exactly awash with money so ultimately they could end up simply pricing people out. An expansion of the current ground up to 60/65k is still the best option by a mile.

Just seen Barry Sweeny, Liam Sweeneys dad, who was killed in the MH17 disaster has died after a battle with cancer.

Must depend where you were sitting. I was up Level 7 for the Semi Final and it was completely dead.

I'd genuinely rather watch it in the pub than go in the Leazes End. Used to hate it in there. Loads of people moaning and whining. I would come away depressed even after we'd won half the time. Was a soul destroying experience in there at times. If it's a changed place these days then fair enough. I exclude the NE corner from any criticism as it always looks lively in there and I'd be happy to sit in that particular section. Think I mentioned on here about my Level 7 experience v Southampton in the Semi Final last season. Only place we could get tickets for. The pub beforehand was brilliant, walking to the ground you could feel the excitement, got to our seats and it was so so flat. People sat playing on their phones only half interested in the match and zero atmosphere. I'd have enjoyed myself more if I'd stayed in the pub amd watched it there. We left our seats on 75 mins and walked down and around to the Gallowgate and as the gates were already open just walked in and stood in the Corner and watched the rest of the game from there which was a totally different experience. It actually felt like being at a completely different match. It hit home how much being in the right part of the ground for you can decide whether you enjoy yourself or not.

Totally agree. My younger formative years of watching NUFC were defined by which area I went in, as was the case for just about everyone. When my dad started taking me regularly back in the 80s our spot would be the very back of the old West Stand Paddocks and I would sit on his shoulders. Late 80s I started going with my mates from school and our area of choice was the Scoreboard. Other groups of lads from our school would either be in the Corner or the Leazes right up next to the away fans. Then in 1991 me and my dad got season tickets in the old family enclosure and in 1993 I moved to the new Leazes End where I stayed until moving to the Gallowgate in 2006 as the Leazes End had turned to shit. The Gallowgate is my area of choice still. I've sat in every other part of SJP and genuinely would rather watch the match on TV than sit in certain sections. They've turned it into a lucky dip really and that's not what going to the match should ever be about. I am glad they've scrapped randomly allocating any part of the ground as that would have stopped me applying for tickets altogether but this is still far from ideal. Surely instead of selecting by price category it would be easy enough to do it by stand instead.

It's never actually been a rule, it was a bit of a myth. It was actually at least 5% need ro be held back for match by match sales but that can include memberships. For example the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool haven't held a traditional "general sale" for years.
-
Was only 500 went on general sale for home games last season. My dad was supposed to buy an extra ticket off his season ticket for a friend for the Forest game and ended up buying Athletic Bilbao by mistake. Returned the Bilbao ticket to the box office and explained his mistake and was told that they would be releasing 500 tickets to online general sale for Forest. That was the first game of last season so assume it was the same for every game.
-
The ticket prices are certainly an issue to me! £44-£74 prices the average supporter out before we even talk about anything else. This is Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North East of England, not West London! Spoke about it tonight with the bairn and explained we won't be going next season. He's 10 now and he went to his first game with me when he was 3 but to give him his dues he understood and took it quite well. Will fill the void with some Non League Football and the occasional drive over to Carlisle.
-
Suppose we'll find out soon if a supporters trust is a worthwhile initiative if they can help sort this absolute shit show out.
-
Because people who wanted to make a racket would try for the Gallowgate and others would head for quieter areas. A random seat allocation would mean noisier people could be put in quiet areas and vice versa. That would do nowt for the atmosphere.
-
Can only see the ballot having a negative effect on atmosphere if you can select your own seats or even your own stand. You'll have people who don't want to sing in the Gallowgate and more vocal people stuck in the East Stand or Leazes. It just wouldn't work.

Was a bit more than that iirc. 31,000 odd rings a bell as I'm sure a FOI request about it was put to Northumbria Police. Was definitely over 30k.
-
At least there's a few of them now coming forward and admitting that they couldn't care less about Saudi. It's the fact that NUFC are absolutely minted and are on the way to the very top that rankles with them.

We went to Hamilton before the match as the buses we were on were heading to a club that was opening up especially for them. We didn't bother with the club and went off on our own for a little pub crawl and struggled to buy a drink. Literally every pub we went in there was Rangers fans wanting to pay for our beer for us! Never been made to feel so welcome as an away fan in my life and by all accounts it was a similar story everywhere. Everyone made to feel so welcome.

Never ever heard it talked about in the pub, never mind every weekend. And let's be honest here. It's hardly a real issue is it? It's some writing on a stand. A stand that's been earmarked for heavy modification anyway in the future.
-
I don't think it's a big deal to the wider fanbase outside of this forum. As I say I've never even heard it mentioned before.
-
Got to be honest here I've never ever heard it even mentioned by a single NUFC fan outside of this forum.

Gateshead 2-3 Newcastle United (15/07/2023)

This just shows what we've all known for a while. Some of this deadwood we have is going to be impossible to shift. Said it the season before last but Jamaal Lewis must be one of the worst players I've seen playing for us in 40 years. -
The £50 meat draw before the match has me cracked up like That place really is stuck in the 1980s. Not just that but who could be arsed to go off to the match carrying £50 worth of meat with them? It'll all be cheap shite as well so I bet there's loads of it.

Some of them saying he has nowt to do with Sunderland as he doesn't play for them anymore, totally forgetting that they claimed him as their own when Liverpool won the Champions League

He was on our train coming back from Chelsea last game of the season.
